I've been having trouble with the miner's reliability...
So far, I haven't been able to keep it going for more than 4 hours.
In this forum the two explanations I've been able to gather are that either the power supply is too low, or the memory voltage is too low. I'm fairly sure the power is enough, because the miner starts (correct me if that is a wrong conclusion), and even though I've tinkered with the memory voltage it doesn't seem to make a difference. Not only does it not last, but it doesn't last in an unpredictable way - it can last anywhere from 30mins to 4hrs.
Any help would be much appreciated!


The power supplied to these miners is a very big part of their proper operation.
I run 5 moonlander 2's at around 5Mh each (freq=876, d-1024) and they are taking around 12 watts per.

They would not run on a TRIPLITE 10 port hub due to the circuit board copper power lines not being able
to supply the current required to make them hash at 5Mh. I had to crack open the USB hub and solder wires
along the power paths to the USB ports and remove the power jack and create direct wired connection to the hub.

The power draw will increase as your Mh increases via the Freq set in your .bat file.
Also if you tun up the Mem/Core voltage you power demands will increase.
5Mh each at 12 watts is 2.4 amps per unit or 12 amps @5vdc total draw with 5 units!
Make sure you have enough power to all the Moonlander 2's to work properly.

Try turning down your freq settings to 600 or less and see if you can get them all hashing at lower Mh.
If so then increase the freq step by step until they fail/reset. the setting below is your max freq unless
you supply more power (amps) to the hub. I have not had too many issues with reliability.

Also make sure you download the latest miner software with the auto reset feature.

 
Thanks for the help - but now you mention it, there is something else that seems a bit odd. I installed the latest driver with the auto-restart feature, although hat hasn't come into play when my miner stops. Any thoughts on that?

No there is not. That's a little pain. So either one has to take the minifan off, or use every other USB slot. For high hashing rates (clock > 800Mhz) one needs external fans anyway. One of the eyeboots in the video takes 19 USB's or so, and with using half the slots you can still stack 11. The alternative to removing the minifan is using USB extenders (see post a few pages back).

 it has 16 ports on top and 3 on the side 19 ports total.

with the stock tiny fan you can alternate ports to fit.

my advice is pull the stock fans and use my method if the noise is a non issue.

those fans i use are the scythe ultra craze fan.

7 watts per fan moving 133 cfm  2 fans move 266 cfm.

most likely I won't use the stock fans in my setup.

I think I'm going with some of the anker 60w hubs -- I have some batch 1's coming so hopefully I'll get the bugs worked out before Batch 2 units arrive.

Have you taken any temp readings @ 756? -- Anyone know what the desired temp range is for these things?

When I get my setup I'll post up, I recently picked up a FLIR camera as well so hopefully I can do some illustrations of that.

I have a heat gun forgot where it is.

But with the fans I am using the sticks are not hot to the touch which means they are well under 60c

I am guessing under 50c.  The hub can do eight sticks easy.

I have all three hubs from eyeboot

The 49 port usb 2

The 19 port usb 3.0

The 19 port usb 2.0

They are not cheap but I had them from sidehacks compac sticks a few years ago.

I found these listed in the sale of some Moonlander 2's... use these settings at your own risk, I have nothing to verify them with at this time.

However, I'm curious to know if they work.

If you measure with a heatgun on top of the little heatsink (thats the hottest part you can measure), you should be seeing around 60-70c for 756. You don't want to run these past 80c for extended periods of time.

I am running around 5Mh now with no real issues using latest miner software and additional usb fan cooling on the chips side.
Is there a spec sheet on the BW chips? What is the nom temp and max rated? Will use my thermal probe to get a temp tomorrow.

This is a amazing product so far, put 3-5 of these into a old Gridseed Orb type unit with 12-20Mh per unit and we are laughing.
Sign me up for preorder if you ever go in this direction.

Windows has some stupid limits with how many USB ports it can detect. I've had it run fine with 25, but then complain when i hook up another 50 port hub to it.

I've ran 42 on an Pi in testing, hooked up with 2 49 port hubs.

The max hashing rate is the max clock * 5.66 (see page 1) = 5.66*954 = 5.4Mh/s that's the absolute max one should be able to squeeze of it. If all cores are alive that is. You tune the core voltage to whereever the HW error rate is under 2-3% (see page 1 again). Mem voltage is a little more flexible now because of the auto-restart. It will get a lot hotter so you should still monitor, even with the fan. If you have only 1 unit that's easy but if you have many close together it is important.  I would think start with a quarter turn on the core voltage and see how that goes. Don't go much higher to 0.9V setting.

my fan  was defective  it vibrated like mad.

Received my order, pretty pumped. Downloaded all updated drivers for Mac. Open up to start the error messages are lazy symbol binding failed, Symbol not found: _clock_gettime. Any help would be appreciated.
my guy, i'm also using MAC on the stoned sierra and it's seriously a pain in the ass.. either you get the "file is damaged" please delete window and can't open the file, or i've gotten the terminal window where it says my session was closed and saved and doesn't start the mining process back up even though the miner is plugged in. you just have to mess with it. from copying the folder then changing the "run moonlander 2" then saving then copy. or even changing the "run moonlander 2" file then copy and save. It sucks..but after a few strained hairs and some cursing it worked again..BUT before that..dont forget to turn your mac off, and do the PITA process where you disable the SIP and then install the slialabs driver then turn the mac off..restart..again..and re enable the SIP. then you should be able to download the MAC64(new updated version) BFGminer ZIP..if im stating that correctly. then after that it's back to messing around with the copying and getting the ML2 to run with your user and preferred clock speed settings.

In response to JAUER...yes i also had this issue where I STILL had to babysit the miner to make sure it ran correctly and didn't either just randomly shut off/stop hashing/ or a new one i recently encountered was it said the "pool was dead" so idk..just kinda still messing with it on my MAC to see if i can get this sun of a beotch to run correctly..

Using a Gridseed it is possible to change and display the frequency in the "Manage devices" menu. Would be nice if it would be possible with the Moonlanders as well.
