Ideally there is no old and new chain, and the fork haven't happened yet.
I can't see any legitimate reason for wanting to strengthen a potential fork on the incorrect chain.

You don't have to use them until you'll need to receive anonymous transactions

Just to clear thing up. You can use your old address, but you will need to upgrade your wallet. v1.6.0 is a mandatory upgrade.

What other privacy project at this moment has stealth addres on their coin or is deep onion the only one that is using it . you could be lucky, but it is not guarantueed the new Onions will be accounted for. It depends a bit on at which moment your walllet is scanned as far as I understand.
