it should be moved into a new sub-forum.

that's the whole point of having sub-forums.

the issue is clutter, then move clutter into somewhere where it is no longer clutter Smiley

Exactly what I have been contacting the staff about for months. I have never received a single PM back, and now I see they have banned it all together. Terrible move.

There should be 2 giveaway sections. one for the gambling section and a general one for other giveaways *if there are any* or at least renaming the games and rounds to giveaways or something like that.

Actually giveaway really helps miners to get interested on a new coin. Truly, i have learnt more about the coins through their giveaway thread with a lot of useful information and newsletter. Some of them really helps me to find out potential coin and get my interest to mine it. I SELDOM NOTICE A NEW COIN IF I DONT GET ANY CANDIES AS THERE ARE LOTS OF """GOOD""" COIN IN ANN.

Anyway, I am not sure why the owner do not want to make a subforum and specifically handle such "so high volume" of threads. Storage Cost? Efforts? If the real cost is very low and it is purely admin do not want to make it as he is not paid too much and he is too tired.
Why dont utilize such large amount of audience and post some advertisement on that subforum???
My brief daydreaming idea:  (two cases)

1. Giveaway thread holders pay to Bitcointalk
Each Giveaway thread sets a upper bound. Users can only post a new giveaway in a certain period of time. If giveaway holders want to raise the upper bound or increase number of giveaway thread in a certain period of time, they have to pay certain fees to Bitcointalk.

2. Third party advertisers pay to Bitcointalk
Everyone who post a new reply, instead of waiting 6 or 8 minutes, they have to watch 3 advertisement and each of them are 20 seconds (Just like those btc-clicks) before the giveaway participants successfully post their replies.
(ie Write reply, click "post reply", watch advertisement, reply sent out). While it benefits users by the writing time shorter, it also helps bitcointalk earns money and cuts spam replies.

PS: I will prefer 1 min total advertisement instead of 6 minutes waiting time in my point of view Wink

After all, purely banning the giveaway and dis-attracting hundreds of new users (or any users targeting on giveaway) is a waste. Sometimes threats come with opportunities (sorry for my bad translation). Have a look of those dogecoin giveaways. One giveaway is already above 1500 post. If you charge those advertisers per advertisement, it will be a huge amount of gold. Surely, getting giveaway already becomes famous for bitcointalk. I know the insight or vision of bitcointalk may not be like that. You may want to hold valuable discussion in this forum. Yep, you could do it just by simply separating us into subform.

After that, you can keep your clean and formal and peaceful discussion of alt-coin in the main section and potentially make a big money on sub-forum. And we got our happy giveaway.
Win-win situation. Why not?

To KeyserSozeMC, the admin is not saying you cannot hold a giveaway. Just you have to hold it offsite and post a link there. I guess this may be your last resort. You may establish a new forum or using other social networking platform and just post a link in bitcointalk.

One more point: this removal really disadvantages those dev-teams without offsite forum and any technical skills in that area. IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE A WEBSITE OR FORUM, YOU CANT HOLD GIVEAWAY XD.

They were getting out of hand, but I think putting them in a separate forum would be all that was needed to sort the mess out.

Actually for me it's yes and no. I respect the forum owners decision because I agree with their arguments.

On the other hand, this forum is the first stop for anyone interested in the wonderful world of cryptocurrency so it would be a real nice addition to all the functional information one can find on this forum. However if giveways draw too much from the sites recources then it's better, for now, to ban them.

We'll see where it goes, even I can setup a forum with my meagre IT knowledge so I bet there will be a solution sooner than later. For now it's nothing but a logistical problem. Dev's can advertise their coin here and direct interested people to their websites for a giveaway. Just like spreading hashrates over different pools I guess.

I have more powerful arguments than they do. Just wont say anything yet.

They waste their time.

A subforum is definitely the way to go. If people who is not interested on altcoins find the altcoins posts a kind of spam of something worst, with a subforum the problem is solved. If the problem is a hardware or any kind or resources shortage, the first post of  KeyserSozeMC on this thread is saying it all. I really don't see any relevant reason for not having an Altcoin subforum.

Cheers!

absolutely positively 100% f*cking yes.
ive posted in the other thread. really not a good idea to link giveaways from bitcointalk, it would mean if someone wants to enter a giveaway they would have to join another forum. all these coins just want to promote themselves and this could slow down cryptocurrencies going mainstream.

I voted for a subforum. I find it overkill to lock threads and ban people over giveaways. If giveaways are spamming the forums then why not have a subforum for giveaways? Problem solved and everyones happy.

I think that we definitely need a subforum for giveaways. It is an excellent way to test the currencies. However, I do think that the worst scammers/spammers should be banned!

Announcement threads helped me become more interested in certain coins, not the spam of giveaway threads. I personally think its a good idea banning giveaways.

Legitimate giveaways helped me become more interested in certain coins rather than others that have no giveaways or no potential.

I would rather see a sub category rather than censorship or the removal of the altcoin form completely.

Edit: I don't have equipment to mine GPU coins so giveaways are the only way I'm able to participate in using those particular coins

I vote to have a sub category

we're told that 'some people' donated, and 'some people' don't want altcoins to be discussed at all on BITCOINtalk... well some people don't have to visit the altcoin threads, there is a search box and several sections for different topics already... it's about time the admins listen to MOST of the people and give us what we want, or risk losing a lot of visitors to this site...
somebody pm me when the giveaways come back,  I'll see you then

Never stopped the giveaways.

Just hope none will get banned until theymos finds a solution.

Would be great to see a giveaway-subforum, because right now some admin is locking giveaway threads without supplying a reason. It leaves people hanging and unable to communicate and promote.
