Wow this topic makes me proud as Philippines is being discussed here. Philippines is a country of very hospitable people but sad to a third world country. The main reason why my country remains poor is because of corrupt politicians taking turns of running the country. But recently a glimpse of hope of our new president who has the iron fist and strong political will in stirring our country back into the right direction.  I'm very hopeful that he will succeed in bringing back the glory days of this country that once called the Pearl of the Orient.

I have been to Thailand and I loved it.
Definitely adding Philippines to my to go to list.
After of course my investments pay off Tongue

Thailand is a beautiful country, and it is very friendly to the international tourists. The advantage with Thailand is that the crime rate is very low and the food/accommodation is very reasonably priced. And for Indians there is another advantage in the form of Visa-on-arrival. Philippines can also learn a lot from Thailand, on how to attract international tourists.

The Republic of the Philippines is a relatively easy travel destination by Southeast Asian standard. Situated in the Western Pacific Ocean, it consists of about 7,641 islands. It is defined by its emerald rice fields, teeming megacities, graffiti-splashed jeepneys, smouldering volcanoes, bug-eyed tarsiers, fuzzy water buffalo and smiling, happy-go-lucky people. The Philippines is justifiably famous for its beaches with more than 7000 tropical islands to choose from. There's an island to suit every taste, from marooned slicks of sand in the middle of the ocean, to volcanic fantasy-scapes concealing hidden lagoons, to sprawling mega-islands such as Luzon and Mindanao. Sun worshippers and divers should head straight to the Visayas, where island-hopping opportunities abound and the perfect beach takes many forms.
The people are, simply, Filipinos – and very much proud of it. Welcoming, warm and relentlessly upbeat, it is they who captivate and ultimately ensnare visitors. Come and visit the Philippines. A journey you will certainly can not say goodbye to.

Yes the Philippines has its problems. It is still poor, but less so than in the recent past. And there is still corruption, but again less so. And it is still hot and prone to typhoons, earthquakes, and volcanoes. Well, not much you can do about that one, but no place is perfect. Since I brought up the negatives of Philippines geography, I should bring up the positives. Both the beaches and the mountains are absolutely beautiful. And when you can see the mountains from the beaches, even better.

pros:
Beautiful - ive been to Thailand, this place is nicer.
Cheap- I mean really cheap for westerners, 5 star hotel in manila for £85/night  London £220
Weather in summer -fantastic
People are nice and will help if they can, most have an understanding of English.

CONS:
Travel- No national rail, im told they had some but no longer running, no problem you say , ill drive. Traffic is bonkers, everywhere except at certain times at night. So it takes a really long time to get anywhere.
To go to any of the islands it involves boat trip and planes- a little bit of hassle.
Drivers-They are crazy !!
Wet season - Unbearable humidity

But go , its deffo worth a visit , I love it

As a person from this country, I can say that the Philippines is a rich country, but there are a lot of poor people. Rich in a way that we have a lot of minerals and resources but we can't utilize it properly for the nation.

Well this country is a also to be considered as a paradise. There are lots of tourist spot and great and hospitable people. We might hear negative news from this country but honestly, it is still safer more than we know. A lot of foreigners some and live there for good because of it's scenery and peacefulness. If I were to choose a country to live in, I would choose this country.

The ongoing Islamist insurgency has tarnished the reputation of the Philippines in front of the international tourists. The army might have won the battle of Marawi, but it will take many years for the tourism industry (especially that in Mindanao and Palawan) to recover. This is exactly what happened to Turkey in 2015-16.
