I live in the country. Yes there's a lot of stunning locations but most of us locals never get to see it unless we leave near those. I only get to see the beaches on TV. Being poor in a third world country sucks.
The climate is something I'm not fond of, too hot and humid for my taste. Well, at least in the lowlands, the country is surrounded by water that it would be surprising if it's not humid.
People, yeah we're mostly nice to tourists. It would also depend on the area. A lot of the people are not really exposed to certain ideas (they call atheists Satanists for example, and also we call blacks Negro so that might offend the unprepared) so if you're planning to stay for an extended period, you may have to watch out for touchy topic.
But then again, we'll probably just nod politely whatever you may say.
