Hey
der][meisterHey, just a short heads up .... First of all, i don't think it's the right time to buy gpus or upgrade rigs, seeing ETH2 coming and the ROI of a gpu being at least 1 year or even more...
Agreed.. Yeah I will get a little back regards ROI. Time is nearing for the ETH2 PoS and will be time to look for new POW to mine Maybe ETC/RVN.. OR simply Power down operation and wait OR SELL as already ROI'ed (Excluding the x6900XT's I can keep and repurpose Or sell at current market rate).
- I'm going to mine with them and retire my OLD R9 290X 4GB (or 8GB I forget ) in my Dev machine and slam one of the 6900XT's into there, Continue Mining with the other.. This is another option.
Regarding ROI in general My Rigs have done like ~2.5x - 3x ROI since 2017 , So, i'm Up..
But still if you want to buy gpus, why do you buy 6900XTs!? the have the same hashrate as 6800xt or 6800 and draw way more power!?
Already Purchased!.. Shipping Here Monday (Tomoz) I am learning about ML/Deep learning.. and Rendering Mining on the 6900XT's will be Primary role initially but then I can use as test bench *almost* as their secondary role...
..The are not power efficient at all!!! 2x6900xt are about 130mh/s and draw 300 to 350 watts,
I have a partial off-grid type setup Power is Renewable/Not main concern Although, It is a concern if you get my meaning.. But I hear yeah you...
..Further there are no bios mods if seen working (like the old 580 bios days) and oc/undervolting is a pain in the ass... at least compared to other gpus.
Hummm... Okay.. TBH, I assumed there would be something out there for the 6900XT.. I need to DMyOR on this one..
The 6600 or 6600XT are as power efficient as the RTX3000series V1, if you want AMD i would consider those, even if you need more Riser/Pci-e power, at least if you have enough mainboard connections available. If not try to get some used powerful RTX 3000series V1 or 5700/5700XT if you want to stay AMD. But watch and research the gpus power/hashrate efficiency!!
Ok... Yeah, I did think about doing it in a similar way prior to purchase But space is at a premium which was one of my concerns. I could return one of the 6900XT's and swap for a RTX3800 [without LHR] (maybe add a couple of hundred to get 3900 for the tensor cores)
..But again, at the gpu prices these days, ROI is high, the only profit i see is holding your mined coins and hope for higher prices to sell, but then you should just buy coins atm and don't bother mining...
Yeah I hear you.. These 6900XT's were purchased from a position of profits, So, its kind of fked up how I look at this BUT to me these are Free cards.. I know, I know far from it.. but cost me Zero, in real terms Profits from Mining & Trading, this is looked at like CapEx spend for Q1 2022 lol..
If mining is and hobby you enjoy, then go for it and have fun, but don't buy the wrong gpus, do your research!!
It is a Hobby turned into a profitable little enterprise. Make ends meet Plus some..
BTW your 580s are running at perfect temps, maybe to low and a lower fan speed could be considered, but i don't know under what climate they are running.
Ok, So Im based in the UK and ambient temps are currently 19Deg C. To paint a better picture These 4 Now 5th RX580 NITRO+ SE are on the bottom row of a dual row 12GPU Aluminium open air case (Stackable with a rig Above and a rig to the right Hand side.) As I add more to the Rig I expect temps to climb but as it stands the temps posted *Currently* have lots of breathing room... Once I fully complete populating the rig a row will sit above the row where these are situated now. (LONG way to say I expect the heat to climb.. AND , I expect there to be a hotspot between the external 2 cards on each side and the 2 gpu's in the middle... LOL)
But the use a lot of power! I run mine at a little lower hashrate 32-33mh/s but with bios mods they run at 65-75watts at about 50-58C°,
Ok, Yeah I think there is still room to do a little (*Lot* more) tweaking..
...still i don't now how the 580s aged with eth-difficulty over the last year, maybe they can't be run more efficient these days!?...
Most definitely.. PhoenixMiner has done a cracking job AND TBH I can see that as Diff has climbed they are keeping pace ... I almost guarantee I can make some efficiencies/savings if I take another look at the BIOS mods again OR that
amdtweektool to actually find the sweet spot for the timing straps. As IMSMR I used the Polaris Editor just cloned the straps timings from the strap above. NO real effort was made at the time to really "trim the fat", kind of thing.. It was more of a "Wham! bang thank you mam" kind of job.. An area to take another look at and deep dive for sure...
All in all I've added in another card and am running this in now and adjusting in incremental changes.. I can see that there is still plenty of room to bring the power draw down.
Thanks for the feedback and good points to consider/re-evalaute
