There’s a hilarious bit of online viral marketing going on for Ben Stiller’s new movie Tropic Thunder, in which he plays superstar Tug Speedman (an obvious play on Tom Cruise). Take for instance this site for the Panda Relocation Foundation — which features Speedman posing for a mock-PSA. Then there’s this funny blurb from within, “Though reports show that the numbers of wild Pandas are on the rise, the World Conservation Association (PANDA) believes there is not enough certainty to remove Pandas from the endangered animal list.”

Another idea:  what about a Panda Visa card that links to your Panda wallet? Doing this with a US Bank is pretty impossible because of the paperwork, etc. but any bank anywhere can issue a Visa card which can then be used world-wide.  We could choose a small hungry bank in some place with less stringent regulations about such things.

We appreciate your ideas minairia3. Before we can focus on ideas like this, we need to concentrate on growing the community size and the number of Pandacoin (PND) wallet owners before bringing out services like the one that you have suggested. One of the issues that most alt coins have is that they come out with all these services and infrastructure but do not have the community size to support a healthy ecosystem that enables it to function as a currency. At the end of the day, most function only as a "cryptocommodity".

The Pandacoin (PND) development team envisions our coin not to function as a "cryptcommodity", but as a cryptocurrency. New cryptocurrencies are not automatically money. They have to earn that liquidity by being widely accepted as a unit of exchange. And to do that, you would need a large community size to support it, and gives the community a reason to use PND. A coin is only successful in the future as a cryptocurrency only if it is valued for their liquidity and having common daily usage due to it being widely accepted as a unit of exchange. And this is the vision that the Pandacoin (PND) development team will strive for and are working towards bringing out developments to assist the adoption of PND and used as a currency in the future.

Step 1: Focus on developments which will increased the PND wallet holders. Step 2: Build upon the PND ecosystem and give individuals a reason to use PND, instead of hording it like a commodity.

With your prior suggestions on adopting anonymity coin technologies and I've just spoken to our dev team about this: it is in our 'step 1' major development roadmap. However I've mentioned this before, and that is that we have to tread and pick carefully on which technologies to adopt to ensure survival of our coin in the long run. Some solutions are more elegant and will have more longevity than others. If none of the current anonymity solutions are ideal, we might have to create our own. Bear in mind that we are careful in not being caught up in these 'flavor of the month' technologies that these new technological 'prototype' coins are bringing out (Darkcoin and Darksend for example). We do not want to integrate say Darksend now, only to find out that 1 month later a better solution comes out, which makes our invested resources and man-hours redundant.

Adopting the right coin technologies is key to survive in this fast-paced-ever-changing crypto world. That, we (dev team) understand. But we are also wary of not being seen as a coin that only knows how to copy and paste other coin technologies and add it to Pandacoin (PND). We want to be innovators also and bring out elegant developments and technologies that encourages other altcoins to follow our lead because it makes sense in the perspective of "ah yes, this is how a cryptocurrency should be like" or "ah yes, this should be an expected feature for all cryptocurrencies from now on". This is where we are focusing most efforts on right now.

We want to increase the amount of PND wallet holders in the future, and to show the crypto-space that we are dead serious on making this coin THE gateway cryptocurrency for the masses Smiley

Pandacoin (PND) Proof of Stake FAQ released!

A highly requested document from the community, the Pandacoin (PND) development team have compiled a FAQ addressing many of the commonly asked questions in regards to PoS.

Check it out if you would like to know more about how PoS and staking works:

Can I still mine Pandacoin (PND) directly with my mining rig?

With Pandacoin (PND) as a pure PoS coin, you would not be able to mine it directly. Instead, you will mine other alternative crypto-currencies and exchange them for Pandacoin (PND) through our ever growing mhs multipool. This way, you will be able to still mine Pandacoin (PND) from the multipool, and help increase the value of Pandacoin (PND) at the same time.

No rush ... but speed is of the essence.
I agree that there is no rush, but I don't think that speed is quite so important.  Having a solid anonymous spending feature is more important then having any old anonymous spending feature.

Panda needs staying power, not quick bumps in price (which are always followed by quick falls).  And staying power will come from carefully adopted features, community support, and services utilizing the coin.

Anonymous spending is a flavor of the month, with lots of experimental implementations popping up.  One of these implementations is going to emerge victorious, eventually, and will then likely be adopted by many coins.  I fail to see how first to market on these features (specifically when they are having so many problems), is relevant.  Let DRK and XC have their day in the sun... it probably won't last.

No rush ... but speed is of the essence.  Look at XC blasting up to the top today.  Their stuff is unproven skunks-work code (brilliant but untested).  People are dumping Darkcoin for XC.  There's a nice spot there for number 2 or even 1 of the anon coins if XC farts out for the usual reasons (someone finds a hidden pre-mine, developer goes radio-silent, dueling whales manipulate it down to 2 satoshi and swim off, code melts down, etc.) Dogecoin followed a mentality of nice community, don't worry about profit, peace/love etc. and these days they're just multipool food for POS coins (like Panda, LOL). Remember, as cute as Pandas might be they also have really nasty sharp pointy teeth as well.

An anonymity related feature has been in the talks for quite some time now but the problem with that would be the approach that guarantees sustainability.

Obviously I could be standing here telling you about the certainty of an implementation but this will create unnecessary hype, so I'll just say that we're considering it at this point and are actively looking into options to get it up and running.
Interesting.  If you're going to implement a transaction anonymizing feature, please do it with ring signatures and not central nodes.  Panda should stay truly p2p, not quasi-centralized like the ever-sketchy DarkCoin.

Any thoughts about putting out a bounty for anonymous transactions, encrypted messaging in the wallet, stuff like that? These are the areas that are hot right now.  The coins doing it (or saying they'll do it) are dry, techy and kind of soulless (XC, XLB, Cinni, Darkcoin, Blackcoin).  The combination of Panda's lighthearted, pleasant image combined with hard-core tech would be unbeatable.

The field seems wide open:  Darkcoin rose, and then fell because their tech is buggy, Blackcoin imploded because of team issues, XLB might be a scam, Cinni made promises but never delivered.  Today it is XC's turn in the spotlight.  They have good tech which is (as usual) doesn't seem like it was stress tested against what full real world implementation will bring.  I suspect they'll slip back down into obscurity pretty soon once things start to break.

The market for altcoins is not the general consumer (yet).  It is the anti-bank activist, the miner, the investor, the whale and the minnow who buy, mine or trade into these things because they figure their coin of choice could be the next Bitcoin.  It is very unlikely altcoins will ever be used at general retail or in restaurants.  Some payment processor will issue you a Visa card that you can link to your altcoin account(s) and they'll handle the fiat conversion etc. behind the scenes (I think Blackcoin does something like already).  To Panda Express, it'll be just another Visa card ATM transaction.  To succeed, Panda has to appeal more to the techy, finance oriented geek constituency.  Panda is consistently between 38 - 42 on Coinmarketcap which is great but much more is possible.

Right now, as ozzke mentioned, there's another major feature being worked on however that should give us a good amount of spotlight.
