Manchester City 2-3 Liverpool

The first semi-final took place today. Liverpool won which means they will be in the final. Congratulations to them.

~snip~
The result was fair enough, they were just as strong but Liverpool were able to take advantage of Man City's lack of let-up.  I think Man City should immediately focus on the EPL and UCL titles. Actually I saw Pep deliberately change his line-up. They feature a player who is not used to being a stater. The decision became a failed strategy, even Zack Steffen made a blunder so that Mane was able to make a goal easily. I think Liverpool will play Chelsea in the final.

Crystal Palace have nothing else to play for this season therefore will give 100% in trying to win this match but Chelsea will keep one eye on the Champions League match against Real Madrid and the other on Tottenham trying to catch them in 3rd place. I think Palace will win this  Grin

It will be physically draining on both teams having to play in the Premier League today, then Manchester City play Atletico while Liverpool play Benfica in midweek with the winners going through to the Champions League semi-final and then having to meet each other again on Saturday for this FA Cup semi-final.

Both teams have the squad depth to take on the challenge but it will not be easy.

The Manchester City vs Liverpool tie will appear like “hell in a match” or “first blood tie” because both teams play today, a draw means a calm fa cup tie, a defeat means. It will be a heated FA Cup tie at the Wembley stadium. For some reasons, I feel like Liverpool will edge the FA Cup tie, a slim victory 2-1

Crystal Palace sadly won’t be without talisman midfield player Gallagher on this tie at Wembley, still I am quite sure that Palace has enough quality to upset Chelsea and play the FA Cup final. A 2 goal victory for Palace

Sunday 17th April
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

Manchester City vs Liverpool takes place in the Premier League today but the two teams battle it out again in the semi-final of the FA Cup on Saturday. Both teams have to play a Champions League game midweek therefore this is a crucial time for them.

In the other semi-final I have a feeling Crystal Palace will beat Chelsea and make it to another FA Cup final but it will be the first time for their new manager Vieira.

Luton Town 2-3 Chelsea

Southampton 3-1 West Ham United

Liverpool 2-1 Norwich City

Chelsea had to win after coming back from a goal down twice. Southampton scored two late goals to beat West Ham. Liverpool beat a determined Norwich. The winners have moved on to the quarter-finals stage.

Luton Town put up a show at home for Chelsea and welcome the blues with a stunning performance, they played well and deserved the two goals scored. It wasn't an easy win for Chelsea but i think it will disappointing for Chelsea to loose at this stage to a lower division team. Norwich also gave Liverpool a though game but Liverpool had to progress to the next quarter finals no matter what.
It was a disappointing night for the Hammers and a disappointing result as well after being eliminated by Southampton with 2 late goals.

@JollyGood Chelsea are battling a nightmare situation off the pitch and the start they got on the pitch wasn’t any different, but thanks to Lukaku they managed to win the fixture. Also I believe they badly needed this victory as the off pitch issues were clearly bothering them, and now it’ll be interesting to see if they can continue to remain focus in their upcoming fixtures.

Southampton 3-1 West Ham United
This is most unexpected results of today's fixtures, i never could have imagined Southampton winning Westham and by such a margin, three goals to one. Broja's goal for Southampton was world class, bigger teams may be putting in an offer for him soon if he can keep up performance, his goal sealed the win for Southampton today.

Minamino for Liverpool did well today as well, a brace to his name.

I made the same comment in a similar thread. West Ham had been very strong in this tournament.
The thing is that Southampton is always a team that can do things you don't expect, for example when they put the big six teams in trouble, and also when after beating the big six they lose against a smaller team.

I think the slot for one big falling in this round it has taken by the Spurs i dont thing two big teams will fall in this round.
But lets see whats happen, in other things West Ham Saints its a game in what i dont know who can win, West Ham seems so strong in this competition this year clearing United and City.

Quick goal from Luton Town in the 4th minute A goal from Reece Burke's header stunned Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, the game had just started and Chelsea still had plenty of chances to score and even beat him with a big score.
I think Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are not too focused on this game, because at the weekend they will be playing in the EPL to chase full points in the EPL to secure Kalsmen's position and also chase points above it, that's important.

edit: Score 1-1, just Chelsea scored from Saul Niguez in the 27th minute.

Middlesbrough has ushered out two top premiere league teams out of the FA cup which many of us did not anticipate , could these guys be the surprise package that could challenge for this cup or they will be crashing out anytime soon Roll Eyes

Anyway Chelsea another premier league team is in action, could there be an upset or this will be easy sailing for the blues.

Liverpool vs Norwich City
Peterborough United vs Manchester City
The last matches were not interested, only few like Manchester City versus Fulham were interesting, even Chelsea was unable to win Plymouth Argely until extra time, Middleborough oust Manchester United after penalty shootout. But maybe this week is going to be interesting, going for Liverpool and Manchester City first half win. This is just a game of luck, full time win odd is very low.

I think this round has highlighted the difference between Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City with the latter two demonstrating they're much more likely to win silverware this year. It's hard to look past the two, though I'm actually hoping we get a lesser team lifting the trophy at the end. Even if I was offered the chance for my team to win the Premier League, Champions league, and then the FA Cup I'd prefer to see a lesser team just simply because I believe that's partly what makes the FA cup an enjoyable cup despite not being overly important to many of the teams that play in it.

FA cup to me screams grass root football, and it's one of the only competitions we actually see lesser clubs take on giants, and actually win routinely. Even if that's because the bigger teams usually field their youngsters.

@Welsh earlier big teams didn’t really focus much on FA cup, but lately each manager is keen to win maximum trophies instead of being content and focused on winning just the Premier League and Champions League. Lastly I agree with you that City and Liverpool are the favourites to win it, and it’ll take nothing less than a miracle for those smaller clubs to beat them.

Liverpool 3-1 Cardiff City
Nottingham Forest 4-1 Leicester City

Liverpool won their match as expected but with 3 second half goals before Cardiff managed a consolation goal. As for FA Cup holders Leicester City, they were thrashed 4-1 by Nottingham Forest - it was an upset I thought was going to happen  Grin

Forest scored 2 goals around 87 seconds apart to make it 2-0 then scored a third to make it 3-0 with all 3 goals coming in 9 minutes. Leicester deserved to be knocked out and Forest thoroughly deserved to go through to the 5th round.

Congratulations to Nottingham Forest.

Congratulations to Nottingham Forest. Football in England is very busy schedule because there are several competitions that require extra energy for each player. Leicester City 4-1 defeat was not an interesting sight. Is Leicester City not focused on the FA?
