Even with ad blocking, it is very difficult to stop online gambling addiction. Gambling addiction goes to such a stage that the person is not in control of himself. In order to protect yourself from addiction, you must learn to control yourself and nothing else will work. Although gambling through casinos is in vogue, in the era of smartphone availability, mobile gambling has become a trend which is becoming more and more serious. For this, it is best to be busy with other activities during the times that you used to gamble. Practice being busy. Do work that makes you happy. Walk with two good people in your eyes. Follow the advice of elders, you can easily prevent addiction.

I feel like gambling addiction is an overrated illness, similar like mental health disease that's popularized by the millennials generation.

Why the new generation is become weaker than previous? gambling isn't an activity where it will increase your dopamine level like smoking, drug, sex or drunk. While mental health disease, people tend to self diagnose what they feel with few similar or same symptoms that appeared in google.

Your suggestions have been mine with blocking ads and so on. But did you know that when you first get to know about gambling, especially when you are given the chance to win, your imagination will always flash about gambling. Indeed, there is nothing wrong with gradually getting rid of things that smell like casinos, especially on cellphones that we hold every day and never even let go.

Once again, this is knowing principles, self-aggrandizement and determination to stop or even more extreme when someone has reached the point of losing everything

One best solution is to cut the internet connection.  Without online access, that obviously stops online gambling addiction.
Still, bro... I think this method is still ineffective in stopping them online gambling addicts, let alone just cutting off the internet connection, even those who don't have a cellphone can still play with other people.
I can say that not without reason, but because I witnessed the incident that happened to my friend, they were willing to sell their cell phones in order to be able to make a deposit, while to play it, they hitchhiked to other people.

Do you not think disabling gambling sites on ones browser settings could be of help also?
Even blocking sites is still not effective, gambling site notifications often appear every day with different sites and also rampant gambling advertisements as well as gambling streaming videos that always appear on the homepage which will make them tempted and return to online gambling.

The only thing that can stop gambling addicts is themselves, when they are aware of the negative impact they are having from the online gambling they are doing. Or when the money and assets run out without any residue, they will realize and break away from online gambling addiction.

I am of the opinion that since gambling sites are mostly online and some has adds that pops up as advert on visited site, one should be able to disable or change their browser settings  by blocking casino adds and as well disabling  gambling sites on their browser settings so as not to gain access to it anymore till the number of days they deem fit to their resolve. This was just a little tip I gave as a possible solution. I had to put it up here for further discussions so that the bigger community can see it as  well.

This is ineffective if you are already a gambler, only good if you have not started gambling once you feel how is it to get excited playing and you have gone through the ups and down you'll go back and continue to play, ts when you resolve it to yourself that you are going to limit your time in gambling and allocate funds to gambling that's a real measure to stop gambling addiction, not disabling ads on your browser.

The urge will always be there especially when there were times that you really enjoy playing and you bought some pieces of stuff coming from your winning in gambling.

So, you block gambling related advertisements on your browser, but you are still bombarded with gambling related advertisements on other social media platforms. (Twitter / TickTock / Instagram /Facebook )

You have to remember that all of these media platforms are running algorithms to detect your interest and they will then send advertisements via that platform to target that specific interest.  Roll Eyes

Well the reality is that it is very difficult to avoid, various promotions about gambling always follow our steps especially on social media. I have several social media accounts and I do a lot of activities there because some of my part-time jobs are there, there is no way I would decide to block one of them in order to avoid some gambling promotions, because I am an active person on social media and it involves my work. In this day and age almost everyone spends a lot of time with social media, they can even forget about other physical activities because they are too busy with social media, social media is a fun thing for everyone and this is a good opportunity for them, the bookies promote their gambling sites there. So in my opinion it is almost impossible for people to get out of this reality, gambling always approaches us wherever and whenever. So the point is we have to be more careful, don't pay too much attention to something passing by on social media, especially some promotions about gambling. Don't let yourself be curious to try it.

It is indeed quite challenging for someone to be able to quit online gambling addiction, because it is not that easy, even when blocking online gambling ads is not enough to stop someone from being able to stop gambling, they must be completely disconnected from the online world at some period of time to cure their addiction, there is no other way than this. Besides they have to intensively consult professionals, they also need people who will stop them when they want to gamble again. With this they may be able to recover from their gambling addiction.
For a gambling addict, they would not take such precautions but would just let it go. If he had close people around him, those people would block gambling sites on his computer. The gambling addict will not see this as a way to prevent him from gambling because he will not care about this either. This requires the attention of the people around him who want to see what he is doing so that people can know that he has been gambling too long or alone in his room. After that, if these people really cared about the gambling addict, they would make an effort to check his room and even his computer to see what he was doing. And when they find that the gambling addict is gambling a lot, maybe they can do something to warn him.

      -    Usually, even if you tell addicted gamblers to stop their gambling habit, they cannot immediately change it or get rid of it because it has become a routine in their personality and body.

Only their determination and decision can really do something for them to stop or avoid it., that's why other close family and friends to a gambling addict can show patience to help him. Because they can actually play a big part in changing a gambling addict.

5% of our net income is quite good amount to gamble and yes you are right that 5% of our income makes us a disciplined gambler which means if we steady to gamble that amount then we won't loss big amount of money and we don't have problem for our daily needs it because the 95 % of our income are budget for our daily needs so the existing  5% is for our happiness that can make a money if we have our luck in our side.
5% of income is bigger than annual interest rate from banks in many nations. It is very big amount if you want to use part of income for gambling and I think the amount should be smaller than 5%.

Not only because it is bigger than annual interest yield but it is also because you will likely lose the amount by gambling. But gambling is addictive and what will you do next after losing first 5% of income? Using another 5% of income to bet again? Repeat it a few times and you will reach to like 20% or 30% of your income and your life will be broken.

I would like to limit the amount to 1% of income for gambling.

That percentage is way too big though  and there are some people who it means nothing to but  on a normal, that percentage is too much an amount to put in for gambling. Loosing such amount in gambling is not worth it and makes no sense as some little percentage from that could be able to sort out some other activities.

Just as you have said, it is a repetitive occurrence which not need to be taken for granted unless it is an addicted gambler taking such a resolution in pursuit of wins and ends up loosing more than expected.

I support your idea of possibly using 1percentage of your income because there are no minimum betting limits in some casinos and there are some games you can bet little amount as well so one can be able to fit in without any challenges or denial if only they have gone through the verification process successfully.

IMHO, no matter how many gambling ads that will pop out on our social media apps, we can't be enticed to gamble on their site if we are disciplined enough to follow our own system of gambling, I mean if we only gamble what we can afford to lose and that amount was gone then that was it for the day or week or months. It is just the discipline that we need so that we won't go broke on gambling.

I have seen several topics here and other discussion thread where many people talked about gambling addiction. So many procedures been stated to follow sequentially to reduce the rate at which one frequently visit online gambling sites and possibly their application if they do have any of them.

I remember in one of the threads I raised up a point which was long hidden as the thread became too numerous and lengthy to continue the conversation on that topic. It was my opinion to add up in profering solutions to gambling addiction. I believe not too many people saw it to to say something about it so that is why I had to bring it up as a topic hear. I want to hear your opinion and ideas towards it.

Here is it;

If you feel or think here is not the right place for this you can say it. I am open to corrections as we all are here to learn.
Your advice is quite good but not very effective, the majority of gambling sites are searched for by many gamblers, not because it suddenly appears in the browser that we open, the term / in conclusion gambling is an activity that is consciously carried out, only a few gamblers turn into gambling addicts, most are able to manage their thoughts as well as their emotions when they gamble.

for me this method depends on what conditions a person wants. I mean when someone is already addicted to gambling, of course it will be a little more difficult, but as long as you have the desire to recover, maybe in many ways, as the OP said, is one way to reduce gambling addiction.
and for someone who likes to gamble but is not addicted, maybe by controlling their finances or managing the finances that must be used for gambling, always consistent with the rules that have been made, that would be much better.

but effort to ban gambling fish seem a little difficult because even now in countries that prohibit gambling there are still gambling advertisements from all over social media and this cannot be stopped and if you really want to stay away from gambling its easy enough to think bad things about gambling and use money to more important needs, perhaps it is also one of the best ways.

Possible to set that into your browser settings, however, if you have been addicted to gambling, one way to stop it is to make your self busy so that it's not even go into your psyche and test yourself if you can overcome it or not.

Or better yet, tell it to your family so that they can help you out in controlling your emotions. It's really a very tough road if you really wanted to quit and most of the time if will take a helping hand like family members or even reach out to medical professional to aid you in stopping your gambling addiction for good.

I do believe there's a way to do that. Something like an Ad Blocker or whatever they call them. That way you won't see those kinds of advertisements anymore. Or, the child mode in some settings, that's to protect the kids from watching such ads.
It is a good idea that you point this out. Many gamblers do start from just a simple ads and they become gambling addicts in the long run.
Perhaps, we could push something like the gambling site itself offering the application for free so that their ads will be blocked. Although, I am definitely sure it cannot be cleaned 100 percent because some blogs or websites can still avoid such blockers.

Some gamblers think that 5% is very small but the fact is that if you continue using such amount for your gambling activities weekly or monthly it still shows that you are spending more on gambling. Anyway it all boils down to the individual gambling lifestyle and income that he is receiving. No matter the percentage that you set out for gambling from your income, gambling is based on luck and anyone who can't discipline himself in gambling will always become an addict. Using 2% is cool with me since I gamble during the weekend.

Gambling addiction is best solved by having gambling budget which is very small to the amount you are earning, like 5% of the 100% you are earning.

Responsible gambling comes from inside you and how you discipline yourself, it is not about ads or anything.

But generally you should block ads, not just gambling ads, but because they are all frustrating. You can use ad blockers to block ads.

Truly self discipline matters if one must do away with an act which they are no longer convenient with. Do you not think disabling gambling sites on your browser settings could help added to your own personal decision?  Even if you are always online for the fact that you already have that features active on your gadget, that would help you maintain your balance and you will not be able to access such site  as  you have planned.
We act on what's negative and positive. We are human, we know what's best alternative for us without hesitation. On the contrary, every gambling addiction knows themselves, the problem is that they got too comfortable with the system, and forget to apply preventive measures to stop the negative aspects of gambling which is gradually draining them. Self discipline is also an effective method to quit gambling, more like applying a disciplinary principles to regulates your activities concerning gambling, it usually take time but reduce the rate of gambling to its minimum level.
