Maybe that's what the player wanted. I think this decision was made in a centralised way, the management discussed it with the player himself and stood on his side without interfering. In fact, if it really was like that, it is a very favourable departure from the club. What's more, he will be no worse off at barcelona, staying at the same level
Apart from being very profitable for the club, Gundogan himself also has nothing to lose by leaving for a big club like Barcelona because he didn't go to a bad club. Gundogan can still have a very good career at Barcelona at a level that is not much different from before so that Barcelona will also benefit enough to have Gundogan next season. Because that will make Barcelona stronger to compete with other English teams when they meet in the UCL competition.

As of right now I would say that there is at least a one level difference between Manchester City and Barcelona. I can still understand that he transferred to the Spanish club if he wants to enjoy life over there while fulfilling one of his biggest dreams, but he certainly isn't joining a team that is of the same quality as Manchester City. Maybe in three years from now and even that is unrealistic.

I am also not sure whether he is making the team stronger when they are also planning to sell de Jong or exchange him for another player. It is not the progress that I thought they are looking for to gear up for the Champions League, but we will see what they are up to in the coming weeks.

I don't see this as losing, it was a beneficial agreement for both teams. Although Ilkay Gundogan was the captain of the team, I don't think he was the key name of the team, he had an important role, but there are other alternatives to play his role. We will see a different central midfield game in City this season. Chelsea are really falling apart one by one, how will the team be re-formed, big losses were experienced last season, they say goodbye to their good games this season. I have no doubt that he will adapt to City Kovacic, communicate with his teammates in a good flow.

Kovacic is good, but not nearly as good as Gundugan.
Gundugan was a little bit underrated in that Manchester City team. He was a key part of that squad. The team can survive without Kevin De Bruyne but I don't think they could survive with Gundugan. They had nobody that could play the role Gundugan had. Now that they have Kovacic signed by City he can play that role. Like I said Kovacic is not as good as Gundugan but Pep knows what he's doing. He's going to turn him into the kind of player he wants.
When De Bruyne was absent, Gundugan stepped in for De Bruyne, but De Bruyne cannot play the CM midfield role like Gundugan. That was how important he was to City.
I'm not worried because Pep will find a way to make things work and I know Gundugan will fit very well into Barca and continue to be a top player.

That's why I believe Manchester City won't lose much form even if they have to let Ilkay Gundogan go to Barcelona. Manchester City have plenty of quality players to replace Ilkay Gundogan in their squad, but Kovacic will also fill that role as expected. We still don't know how Manchester City will form next season, but they won't change much.

Some of the players brought in during the transfer market will make them even stronger, that includes defense as well as midfield. I also think that Manchester City will build a better squad and will add some important players in the middle of next season. So far their huge investment has paid off, but they can't afford to let more players leave without someone to replace them.

Gundogan is the ideal addition to the Barcelona team. I'm trying to picture what the Barcelona frontline players will look like with Gundogan playing with guys of his caliber like Lewandowski, Dembele, Balde, and Pedri. If these players are to be fixtures in a particular match against a team, Barcelona will end up winning the match.
The arrival of Gundogan at Barcelona is a blessing in disguise for Barcelona while a loss to Manchester City.

I don’t think it’s going to be a loss to Manchester City after losing Gundogan to Barcelona. Pep is not that dull to allow such transfer to take place if he has no solid replacement for him that’ll be able to keep the bond in the team stronger. Gundogan is no doubt a good addition to Barcelona but I don’t see it less of a big deal for Manchester City losing him to them. Kovacic who was said to have replaced Gundogan is a great midfielder and I’m certain he won’t take long for him to bond with the rest of the teammates and employ his expertise to the midfield of Manchester City this coming season.

Gundogan is very good for tiki taka after about six years with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Even Pep upgraded initial tiki taka from Barcelona to Bayern Munich then Manchester City, the core idea of tiki taka was digested by Gundogan. He will not have difficulty in Barcelona especially we saw Xavi did not change the initial tiki taka too much in one season and a half with Barcelona.
Gundogan will have no trouble with Xavi's game tactics. he will be a tremendous support for Lewandowski. this season could be the most productive season for Barcelona I think. I don't understand why Pep could let Gundogan go to Barcelona. he is one of City's important players in getting a trophy this season. I'm sure it will be Xavi's luck this season.

With Gundogan, the Barcelona midfield will become even stronger. I still don't understand why Manchester City left him. He was captain of Pep Guardiola but they did not extend the contract. I am in favor of contract extensions in order not to lose the value of such players. He was a player who could at least be a role model for the team.

Players change under the right managers especially defenders. When managers get their pairing wrong it affects players. Did you watch Rudiger play under frank Lampard and Sarri before Sarri left the club and Lampard was sacked (the first time), he was one of the poorest defender I have even seen and wasn't getting playing time because of a flop he was just as Henry Maguire is at Manchester united but then Thomas tuchel came and everything turned around for Rudiger, he was one of the best defender in the premier league at some point and helped Chelsea in lifting the Champions league because our defender were the secret behind our victory that season.

We even sold him to Real Madrid and this was a player we were at some point looking to let go because of how poorly he was performing. I just told you this story for you to understand how vital coaches are to a player. I believe if Henry Maguire meets a coach that can use him to work he'll become a top defender. Let's not forget he wasn't a flop when he was bought so saying he's going to flop if sold is just assumptions. Players change under the right management just as I explained with the Rudiger story. Rudiger has gone on to win another champions league with Real Madrid so don't be surprised if Henry Maguire moves on and become successful as well.
I agree if it is about the common case of players' performance. But for Maguire case, it is extra ordinary case for me. You must know how many times he made senseless mistakes. It even become ridiculous memes for people around the world. For a professional player who play in the best league in the world, those mistakes made by Maguire are too severe. I know what you are trying to explain, but we are talking about Maguire case, it is not a common case like other plyers.

If Rudiger performance in Real Madrid isn't as well as in Chelsea, we can understand that he is in adaptation. Even if he performed not really well, it is not as poor as what Maguire did in Man United. The mistakes made by Rudiger are still understandable. It is clear that Maguire case and Rudiger case aren't comparable.

A Maguire transfer from Manchester United to Chelsea would be a surprise for several reasons. Maguire had a hard time in Manchester and I think besides the financial aspects he could also be a winner if Chelsea performs well and he can play a part in that success. But if Chelsea fails again, I can already read all the public allegations against the club and those responsible for the transfers because why would they sign players that underperformed when they themselves underperformed and are now trying to recover? Negative times negative is positive? Maguire is a high risk transfer if this really happens as Chelsea doesn't have the time to run some experiments with players who failed elsewhere.
So that's what surprised me. Chelsea management should not pay special attention to Maguire because this defender is 30 years old. Even if we look at it for now it's better not to do it early than they regret it later. But if Chelsea get it for a cheaper price or 20 million, chances are this won't be a big problem in Maguire transfer. But another thing I want to see from Chelsea is that they sell a lot of players so they have to sign players who can really help make a big contribution to the team next season.

Many observers say that the Maguire era is over because he is 30 years old but his career is sinking so quickly. Maguire has found it difficult to get a main place under the coach of Erik Ten Hag, so Maguire career at Manchester United next season could be a substitute bench player.

When you look at the players they now let go, getting Maguire is the opposite of a reasonable new strategy in any respect. They let the young high potentials go like Havertz, Joao Felix, they also want to get rid of Lukaku but at a good price of course, and at the same time they consider signing Maguire. This doesnÄ't make a lot of sense unless they see some potential in him that I just can't recognize. I liked Maguire in the beginning as he was quite a ruthless defender who did not make many mistakes, but it changed quickly for the worse and he never got going again. For him it doesn't matter, it is even good if he gets another chance at a club like Chelsea.

It is hoped that André Onana will have more positive influence on the defense system that Ten Hag built at Manchester United. He might help Manchester United's defense stronger than what De Gea has done so far, but Onana still has no experience in the Premier League. André Onana is very excited to find himself playing for Manchester United next season, but I hope he can prove himself worthy of replacing De Gea at Manchester.
André Onana is typical goal keeper who can help build attacks from the bottom line, in the modern football era, goal keepers is not only how to make brilliant save but also has good contribution for building attack teams  and manage well with defense how to play ball in the defense area. Current impressive performance with Inter Milan and André Onana has contribution for attacking build is reason from Eric Tan Hag sign him although have to pay above 50 million.

Finally, Bruno Fernandez become Manchester United's captain season 2023/24 for replacing Maguire and looks ideal captain due many speculation favorite for Casemiro as captain teams.

If Manchester City doesn't get consistent performances from Kevin De Bruyne and Haaland next season, Manchester City's performance will definitely deteriorate drastically. Because I think Kevin De Bruyne and Haaland's excellent performance is why this team has been able to play consistently well in the last season. Kevin De Bruyne helps stabilize Manchester City's midfield. And Haaland scored plenty of goals last season. Every player in Manchester City's squad has contributed to the title win. However, these two players have played an important role in stabilizing the overall performance of the team.
Why wouldn't they though? I mean we are talking about a team that is great and consistent, and two players that were probably the best players of that team that did treble. I believe they are still very good and they are young too as we all know, so they will play just as good this season as they did last season. They will have a magnificent year and will end up getting good results again. I know that it looks quite difficult to handle but it is not really that difficult when you think about it.

Yes, winning the treble is normally difficult, but when you are as big as City and have the players they have and the manager they have, it is not going to be really that hard to do it again. And if they fail at one, they may get the other two.

result of some friendly matches involving the top teams of the premier league made me laugh a lot, for example:

chelsea 5 - 0 wrexham

it's been a long time since chelsea managed to score 5 goals in a game, there are more than 40 games in which chelsea failed to score 5 goals, even if this was just a friendly game, it was still something positive that chelsea managed to score 5 goals in this game, maybe pochentino can make chelsea return to winning ways in the premier league and get back to the top of the table, in the next game chelsea will play against brighton that if they play more seriously then it would be a good test for chelsea

MLS Al Star 0 - 5 arsenal

in this game arsenal played seriously and different from the previous friendly game in which arsenal did not play seriously and had difficulties to beat a team from the second division of the bundesliga, in this game arsenal showed that they are much stronger this season, their main weakness which is the defense in this game they did not concede a goal, in the next game of arsenal it will be very complicated, they will play against manchester united, if manchester united can play with full strength then we would have a good game

Karlsruher 2 - 4 liverpool

well it's unbelievable that even though liverpool started with their best players they conceded 2 goals in this game and were losing, even though the game ended in a win and it was a friendly game, it's still not good, maybe we'll see liverpool struggling to reach the top 4 next season

The Onana deal is finally completed for Man Utd then. I’m not too sure how much of an upgrade he will be on De Gea, he is prone to making big mistakes. It will take a lot more to make them genuine title challengers.

The signing of Gvardiol really strengthens the defence of City. They are losing Gundogan, Mahrez, Kyle Walker & possibly Bernardo Silva. It could be an open title race this season.
I am not seeing Onana as coimg as an upgrade to De Gea. Just as De Gea came and laid hi own legacy and not that of Van der Sar.
I have watched the clips of Onana and two things I am impressed about him are
  • His confidence
  • His ability to use his feet
I also have to acknowledge that Onana is not without some errors. Sometimes his over confidence leads to some errors.
But with cautioning from Eric, he will stop some frivolous acts.

Maguire has not had an easy road ever since he became a Manchester United, and the fact that we have seen several errors being committed by him begs for better quality and improvement..and seems he has recognized this and was training in Portugal during the break with one of the legendary defenders to help him find his form but seems to late as his rumored to leave for lack of game time.

As of the captaincy, you are spot on with Bruno Fernandes..sometimes he comes short in the leadership department but that's what United has for now, but if I were to nominate a player that would make a great captain it has to be Casemiro...just not sure if he has no language barrier when it comes to communicating with teammates and referees etc.
Harry Maguire was given the captaincy of Manchester United, but he allegedly turned down his teammates, supporters, and coach with poor performance, and he is well-known for making mistakes on the backlines that are penalised by his opponents. Erik Ten Hag was so frustrated up with Harry Maguire's mistakes that he removed him from captaincy, replacing him with Bruno Fernandez, who has a more presentable outstanding performance for the Red Devils. Prepare for a lot of incredible records to be shattered at Old Trafford next season.

Manchester City are focused on defence, but they have not shown any seriousness in a potential replacement for Mahrez. Mateo Kovacic is good to replace Ilkay Gundogan, while Josko Gvardiol will strengthen Manchester City's defense. I wonder who will replace Marez and maybe Bernardo, but the rumors are that they want Raphinha from Barcelona.

With what am seeeing in this preseason gmaes, Manchester united will struggle next season if they fail to bring in good striker. Anothy Marital is not consistent and not fit to play Manchester united top 9, and Erik should not dare to play Rashford this seasson at top 9. he must hurt in the market to get a talented top 9 to fit in his squad.
Winning the preseason games do not mean that a team is going to have a fantastic campaign. As a matter of fact ETH is very unserious for resigning Johny Evan, whether it's his decision or the clubs, it's a very dumb idea. What United needs is an established striker, a solid defender and maybe another midfielder depending if Fred leaves. Also, in the striking role, they can as well allow Greenwood back in the team to help out, but they've been playing club's politics with his return.

Liverpool, will not be as bad as they were last sason, they are coming to win the title and compete with Manchester city as usual. liverpool is major contender for the title next season.
Jurgen Klopp is already disappointed that they missed out on the champions league top four finish last season, so he's doing all he can to strengthen the team in preparation for next season. So far I'm pleased with the club's activity in the transfer market especially the signing of Mac Allister from Brighton.

Arsenal, is another team that is prepared for trophy next season, with what Arteta hs done in the market so far, Arsenal will be difficult to beat. and a title contender too.
Arsenal came close to winning the EPL title last season but couldn't hold their well established lead because the team's lack of depth. Arteta is trying to correct his mistake this time around and I'm pleased with how they are doing in the transfer market. Arsenal looks like a team to stake your money on.

Because I think Kevin De Bruyne and Haaland's excellent performance is why this team has been able to play consistently well in the last season.

There is no reason why these two players cannot deliver consistent performances for Manchester City. I have faith that they will exert every effort to still succeed this time around since they are the key players that elevate Manchester City to the next level this time around. Erlin Haaland, who was recognized as the greatest goal scorer last season, will undoubtedly make every effort to win another award, even if it is for the same accomplishment. However Kelvin DE bruyne will continue helping Erlin Haaland.

I think Guardiola should take care of the performance of his players because it will have a very negative impact on Manchester City if one of them gets injured during the competition.

If one of these players is hurt, it won't be Guardiola's fault, in my opinion. Yes, I understand what you meant when you said he should take care of them while playing football, but what you need to realize is that he won't know in which match they may get hurt because, as you can see, given that these players are Guardiola's key players in both his Premier League matches as well as other matches, he will want to use them in all of his games to avoid losing matches.

Bruno Fernandes moans/complains quite a lot at his own players when things aren't going Manchester United's way, almost as if to pass off the blame to them and exonerate himself as the person giving his best to the team, i have seen him do that many times and i think it is a disgusting habit that leaves a lot to be desired.

I hope Fernandes works on his attitude now that he is captain, if he does not then he isn't a good captain imo. Having said that, i don't know if Maguire intends to remain in United, but if he does then it will confirm the fact that he's not an ambitious player and one that's just contented with being paid, it isn't just about him being stripped off the captaincy role, but the fact that the manager doesn't have him in his plans and he won't be getting any game-time next season, thus he shouldn't be comfortable with that.

I don't think the coach would had made him his preferred choice for the role of a captain considering your judgement about his character, well no one is happy to be losing a match or underperforming and it's the duty of the captain to help call the players to order when things are not going the right way, left for me I think he's the most suitable candidate for that role, and he's proved himself worthy last season showing great quality on the pitch, also I think their are some leadership qualities Ten Hag have seen in him that fans are not aware of.

Talking about Maguire it's a good thing he was stripped off the role of the captain in manchester united, he looks very tough and performs well for the England team but have refused to establish himself to be suitable for manchester united, if he doesn't improve and  try to claim his spot in the starting 11 then now is the best time to move to another team and see if he'll recover the form that made ole gunners solskjaer bought him into manchester united, but I don't think Eric Ten Hag is patient enough to wait for his improvement and would likely offload him or make him sit on the bench this season.

After Harry Maguire will not captain Manchester United next season, now the main captain position will be held by Bruno Fernandes. I think Bruno Fernandes is the right player for this role and I hope he can be a confidant for his teammates on the pitch. Maybe in discussions with the referees he is very good, but when the team is in trouble I don't think he has the soul of a leader in those situations and often the player who can get a squad motivated again is Casemiro. I had thought that Casemiro would be the next main captain for Manchester United because he has a great leadership spirit, but it seems that Erik ten Hag has again appointed the captain of a player who has lasted quite a long time at this club.

Source: https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1681993778964361216
Meanwhile Bruno Fernandes had been officially appointed as the new captain of Man Utd having been in acting capacity last season if Maguire is not played, I believe this is a welcome development, Bruno Fernandes had been brilliant in the midfield and very consistent in that role his performance had been topnotch thus he merited that captainship role, he has shown a leadership quality role on the field of play by encouraging and motivating his teammates during matches, Moreso he is always in the forefront to take  penalty for the team and not fail to disappoint his teammates and fans, I hope he replicate his last season performance to the new upcoming season.

With the way Barcelona perform in the last season,  I was convinced that the club have made a lot of sacrifices and there are ready to face their future games and competition with all seriousness because, in the last season,  Barcelona made a foundation for a long that no club will be able to break that record After all, the 2019-2020 round of the premier league,  we all know what Barcelona standing was and how poor the state of the club at that time,  but since from 2021 premiere league,  Barcelona put up a commendable team that has seen to the success recorded in the just concluded premier league season.

And if Gundogan should come on board the Barcelona team,  it then means that the club will be better positioned not only in the premiere league but also in the champions leagues respectively.
