I'm not really sure, if I'm not mistaken, UEFA enforced the rules if the defending champions don't qualify for UCL from the league standings, they will still be invited to compete in UCL in the following season. So, Tuchel's decision is right if he makes UCL champion as his target this season. Because with this result, next season they can still play at UCL because the final standings from the leage are no longer important to them, if they are become a champions.
