They are far from being called a big clubs, they need to win the premier league atleast once before they could be considered on par with the other big clubs. Besides that, winning the league will give them huge amount of money therefore they will be able to purchase more star player for next season

Aston villa is indeed a big club. Big club is not determine by how many star players they have currently but more about their history.
