There will be a decline in bitcoin prices after segwit2x but only for a moment and then there is a rocket that has been prepared to go to the moon. I'm sure $4000 will be achieved or even maybe it could exceed that value, nobody knows for sure but I'm sure about it will come true.

Thing is, I'm pretty sure that that's what everyone's expecting by now... and Bitcoin rarely acts as expected.

If you study the forecasts of analysts, you can see that they all come true. But people do not always read analysts, but make the wrong conclusions themselves.
I think that the price of bitcoin after this event will drop and will be low 2-3 weeks. Then there will be a sharp recovery and growth

So, that would be the first half of August for the lower end? And more interesting : what will happen for the rest of July? Just keep going sideways or one more pump ?

After segwit, I predict a short term drop in terms of price because some people may not like it being implemented so maybe they will dump their bitcoin stash. Later on it will go up again and the effect of the price drop if it were to happen will only last for few days or weeks. Considering some more users might enter bitcoin again if transactions get fast again, I expect that we would test 3000 $ price again.
The percentage of people who may get panic/dislikes will be in very insignificant numbers hence we cannot expect any dump as solving scalablity issue even for time being may boost bitcoin prices into new level like  $5000 price levels hopefully.

I am expecting $5000 in August and $10k in December, after scalabilty issues I am not seeing any big hurdles bitcoin may face hence we can expect prices start flying again.

easily the price can and will double ,i think some of the eth money will come back into bitcoin if a scaling solution is presented and increased growth from institutional investors who have been staying on the sidelines to see what happens ..........

The number of people liking and in favor of segwit will be far greater than the people disliking it, it would be safe to just neglect them in this price speculation. This community has been waiting for segwit for far long time now, I would be surprised to see if there is anything but a major rise in BTC after Segwit.

What I believe is there will be a fall in price just after Segwit if happens but that would be for short term. After that bitcoin will grow like before or better because any of the blocksize solutions would allow bitcoin to continue growing. Growth is required for stability. A stable currency is a good store of value.
I would predict a short term with a healthy future growth until we reach the next scaling ceiling.

So segwit will supposedly be activated this Fall right? This should mean blocks are no longer near full, transaction fees go back down to hopefully 10 cents or so, and sending bitcoin will go back to taking tens of minutes instead of hours.

Sending Bitcoin is and will still be instant. However I do agree we need fees like they used to be... We're yet to see if SegWit will provide such.

What will all this do to the price?

If price is the only thing you want to discuss, then it's maybe better to have this on the speculation section I think. Anyways, if what happened on other coins applies to Bitcoin, the price will go down, at least for a few days... Which is great as I'll be able to get cheap coins Smiley

I don't understand why people think confirmations are the same as sending bitcoins. That's just the time it takes to have it confirmed that it's a valid transaction. You can only do that if the transaction already happened! So ya, payments are and always will be instant. Confirmations quicker really make no difference unless you're trying to buy coffee and they have a lot of people double spending on them.

not to mention if you want a 100% irreversible transaction then you need to worry about the number of confirmation not just having the confirmation. and that is what people usually forget when it comes to comparing bitcoin with other altcoins.
with bitcoin 1 confirmation means a very low chance of double spend happening which is nearly zero.
with altcoins that have <20 second blocks this number grows to a much bigger number of confirmation.

Yeah I got curious too about this segwit and what would happens in the price of bitcoin after the segwit,
Just hope that it would make bitcoin transaction faster and lower fees and hope that the price would increase.

The number of transactions would certainly increase and hopefully, we could have some respite from transaction backlog. The question is whether this is too little, too late. This is certainly not a long-term solution.

Actually LTC price was increased when segwit was about to be activated and there was quite bigger correction when segwit get activated. However within few weeks price have recovered and getting pumped right now.

So I am also expecting similar pattern in bitcoin.
You can't seriously compare both activations with each other. Litecoin is nothing more than an altcoin that drives on occasional hypes ~ it has been like that since the very beginning.

Add that there is barely any real Litecoin usage going on that would justify it to have SegWit activated. SegWit has been implemented mainly for testing purposes.

Bitcoin for real needs to have SegWit activated as it will allow Bitcoin to finally move forward and cope with the demand in a far better way. So no, it won't be the same as Litecoin at all.

Right.

What will all this do to the price?

This will result to a tremendous increase on Bitcoin's price. Though I am uncertain of what will really happen, I am on the positive side. This will be a milestone for Bitcoin and investors will start pouring in. So there is no doubt about the Bitcoin price increase.

Will this first step in scaling be the sign investors need to really start jumping in on Bitcoin?

Yes.

Will it be the sign the USA SEC needs to approve the Bitcoin ETF, allowing people to invest in bitcoin more easily?

Yes also.

Assuming bitcoin growth slows down this summer, will segwit create another boom this Fall like we've had this Spring, sending bitcoin possibly close to $10,000 by end of year?

Whatcha think?

Bitcoin will definitely slow down before segwit. This is due to some people selling coins because they are afraid of its end result. However, after the activation, about a week or so, we will see the tremendous growth I was saying earlier. 10K is a bit much, though.

I am one of those people who are still worried about what happens when Segwit takes place. Maybe there are still many people in the world who ask how the end result of segwit. We may all become worried until later, a long time waiting for the reality on the 1st of August 2017. We can only wait until that happens actually.

Knowing Bitcoin, Segwit deployment will be anticlimatically uneventful, only for some unrelated drama to get unleashed a few weeks after when nobody expects it.

This is what I am thinking also we will all wake up Aug 2 and price will still be mid upper 2000s

Yes I also believe this price will last long enough. Too many issues that exist today, because this news many investors who will re-think to invest in the world of cryptocurrency especially bitcoin. When bitcoin gets the issue down it will not work properly, including altcoins that may not be desirable. So keep trying to use bitcoin to increase trust that can give rise to bitcoin prices.

Hoping that the same effect will happen as we saw it gave LTC a very positive out come.

But who knows bitcoin is bitcoin and litecoin is litecoin they are still different but everyone is hoping to have good results.

But you should remember that Litecoin had a market cap of less than $1 billion at the time of SegWit implementation. On the other hand, the market cap of Bitcoin is around $40 billion now. Going from $40 billion to $60 billion is much harder than rising from $1 billion to $2 billion. But still, I expect the exchange rates to be in the $4,000 - $6,000 range by the end of August.

You are.expecting too much. How much hype do you have to sell in order to reach that price in less than two months?  There may be hype just before the activation but I don't think it will be that high. And maybe after it, the price will correct to a lower price again, maybe just above the current price.

Yeah, the LTC price during segwit activation was a picture book example of "Buy on the rumour, sell on the news". BTC will probably behave quite similarly, that's true.
