bitcoin-24 is just an scam. heard tons of stories behind it
Not only is there harm to the rightful owners of those bitcoins/euros, but also to the bitcoin economy as a whole. Exchange randomly goes down. Owner not responding, keeping our btc hostage. Lots of negative publicity, price drop. The damage is done.
1. simon closes btc24 -> tell a good story
2. takes our bitcoins and sells them on other exchanges while the price is falling
3. waiting some days/weeks
4. buy back all those BTC for cheaper money
5. open btc24 again with all funds -> no harm to the users
6. profit!
This kind of operation would be easily traceable on blockchain.info - the address(es) of cold wallet(s) are not exactly secret. 2. takes our bitcoins and sells them on other exchanges while the price is falling

That too, but at least I kept a decent correlation between how much money I was putting in and how much effort I had spent investigating their handler's trustworthiness. Excuse me? I consider it very real harm that the exchange has been closed during 2-3 major price drops because I couldn't use my money to trade back and forth and benefit from those drops. It's not "no harm to the users" at all.

As far as bitcoin goes I am smarter simply because I did not invest in the scheme of a tow-headed pratt. That part is obvious and I was not trying to be subtle about my intelligence in this matter at all.
I am dumber because I invested money in GPU mining but smarter because I am still getting results compared to those who invested in BFL ever delivering anything. (but the net balance is still on the side of dumb).
But, I still maintain that critiquing shoddy practices when they fail and when they have not is not FUD, FUD implies irrational doubt, and no one who is into bitcoin is spreading irrational doubt about them. We should spread doubt about the bad practices we see, including those by mtgox.com but so many people in this community tend to blame the doubter for causing what they predict than blaming the shoddy standards of those who handle trading.

Excuse me? I consider it very real harm that the exchange has been closed during 2-3 major price drops because I couldn't use my money to trade back and forth and benefit from those drops. It's not "no harm to the users" at all.
