For me it is not harsh considering that you have raped someone. Innocent people being abused of sexually ill people should be punished. And I do not know what do you mean by normal rape because what ever it os if it is done without any consent it is indeed a rape. I also agree with cutting the genitals of the male for them to suffer and be a warning to everyone

Agree, first you need 100% proof that rape were, some women and man are real scammers about this. They can lie to the court to make some money or other benefits. So first of all a good investigation must be done. We are no more in the jungle!

They should add a law that makes you an accomplice if you deliberately ignore a serious crime. I know people might be scared, but if they have a phone, they should call the police. They could also start telling people around them what is happening and maybe they'll find someone brave enough to intervene.

You are talking about punishing the fellow travelers as co-accused or accomplice. And yet the perpetrators of this crime were let off without any punishment. In India, the system is against the rape victim (especially if she is uneducated and poor). On the other hand, there are a few rich women, who have filed fake charges against innocent men.
Perhaps the most appropriate penalty for rapists is to be castrated because raping a person may be disruptive to the psychology of the person receiving rape

But the death penalty or life imprisonment must be given based on how cruel the offender is in action. If the offender rapes the victim to kill the victim, the death penalty must be given. If not to kill, put him in jail to death.

I think I've heard of that. I believe that was more than 5 years ago. True, it was horrible. Just shows how "normal" it seem to people now. I heard Uber there has some sort of call for help button because of the high risk of getting raped. Seems they even do this to tourists (so don't backpack alone if you're a woman).
The government really need to address this or it'll really destroy the country's image. In the short term, harsher punishments would be needed. Greater access to victim's protection as well as easier way to report the crime would also help. For the long term though, there really need to be a cultural change where women would no longer be looked upon as mere objects to satisfy lust.

In India for the past few years there are many rape incidents happen and there are no safely young women in this country. The rapists are not even punished and are left freely. I do not know how will the victims lead their life after such incident has happen in their life. In some countries, the rapists are let off freely if they marry the victim. And that also is becoming a huge and serious issue in the society. First to share thingy! So many cases where shits like this happen and first thing that comes to most people''s mind is to quickly take some pictures to share for people to see rather than taking steps for such things not to occur again. Yup... I agree to that most people will watch and just walk away. I would to ask them if the victim was one of their family member will they do same thing...

I think the penalty of chemistry is more humane than the death penalty, because all the faults that human beings have for their fellow human beings have no right to take the life of another human being.
