Hello Degens

I am doing a little research on WHY people are betting /gambling online with btc/crypto from various countries/states worldwide, and was hoping bitcointalk members  can be of some assistance.
I would specifically like to know (if you happen use crypto to gamble online) why you do so.

eg is it because you:
  • can pay Less vig in some cases?
  • wider game selection can gamble on games like minesweeper, paper rock scissors and other novelty games?
  • "provably fair" games
  • cannot bet in your current location
  • crypto sites might offer markets unavailable elsewhere
  • others ?

any info appreciated, if you can give me your state/country that would be helpful too for context.
I will happily publish the results of the survey later ITT if anyone is interested/cares.

Thanks

everyone has their own reasons but if you are involved in this industry and besides that you like gambling games, do you choose fiat or crypto?  for other reasons in some countries gambling is illegal and many community members choose crypto because it is more convenient without having to register your bank account, there are many reasons why and you have answered some of your questions yourself.

I mean, I am against KYC and I love betting; I could make some money gambling; but 99% of reply in this thread are from crypto casinos.
I believe it is obvious they take a part on the matter. The scam is around the corner as well.

Basically yeah, If you gamble just within the minimum range limit for the gambling website before they get alerted of how huge the money you're gambling to their website.
Because, some reputable crypto casinos requires KYC when you're gambling with huge amount of money.
Nevertheless, what you have mentioned were true and are the main advantage of a crypto casino compared to some fiat based online casino.
Even not that huge as long as they've found that there's something wrong with that transfer, I don't know how they would find that out but there must be a way. They'll still ask you for a KYC if they think like that.
To sum it up about the advantage of using crypto to gamble, it's true about being anonymous and it's easier than the usual transfer that we've been doing from fiat and physical casinos.

There are two fundamental ways out of the situation: resist or run. Decentralized applications are the second option and it seems to be good, but still, sooner or later, you need to resort to the first option, since the government will be able to reach you everywhere and no technical progress will save you.
I choose to run or get out of the game for the time being if the government really pushes its will and continues to put pressure on the casinos. But while out of the game, we can also look for other casinos that really have nothing to do with the government or casinos implementing a small part of the verification that will not burden us. I think that will give us some time to search for the other casino that still supports the gambler who is concerned about privacy.

It probably makes sense from the point of view of practicality, but in the end there will simply be no places where you can run away. Although it may not be so tragic and "there will be enough while we alive" of various opportunities, but watching how events develop in all areas, I am rather skeptical about the future.

Most points here center on anonymity, and I do agree with that. It's one of the features that most gamblers are looking for since it's hard for them to mask their gambling activities online with just credit cards. Also, everything with crypto is just fast without any approvals from a third-party needed, and no one can block your crypto if they found out that you are gambling online. It's basically just leaps ahead from fiat gambling and it''s just better in lots of aspects.

Maybe that is why it works for many crypto casinos to exist and still be profitable. This way gamblers can split their gambling activity among several platforms, instead of focusing all their funds into a single site, where it would light up a red alert, leading the casino to ask for KYC procedure before withdrawing the money.
Many casinos disponible on the crypto scene allows regular big gamblers to stay under the radar, if they wish and if anonymity is an important factor for them.

Most of the time but it would only be dont initially and the rest of the time or on the time you had already complied then you wont really be asked out and speaking with
main differences then we could obviously able to point it out whether you are just a new user of these online gambling crypto casinos compared to fiat ones.
This is way more simpler and anonymous but of course there would be some sort of limitations or verifications once you do hit up a particular limit or maximum.

Of course, the government will impose its will in any area it can reach. The meaning of decentralization is precisely this - if we cannot defeat cancer in direct confrontation, we are looking for a way where this cancer has no power and there is not even a "representative" of the project on which to put pressure. An ideal decentralized project would be just that.
The government can easily impose its will on something within its territory. It seems that casinos need to keep their business away from the relevant government so that the government can't just do what they want. But don't forget that licensed casinos are also likely to be asked for information about their members spending big money. So it's a decentralized casino that likely won't come under heavy pressure from the government.

in most of the cases you are required to complete the KYC the exact moment you go for a large withdrawal Roll Eyes , so you can rest assured you will not leave their casino so easily Wink
or it's required if you are connected from different countries...or you have win "thanks to radar betting" ... and so on...

practically 95% of the casinos but maybe even more or less,  have in their terms and conditions the possibility to ask you for a KYC at their discretion... it is always an event to take into consideration  Cool
If we don't want to complete KYC, we don't need to use big money or make big withdrawals. That is our advantage in gambling at the casino to avoid KYC. Well, so it all comes back to you, whether you want to complete KYC to satisfy your gambling cravings and make big withdrawals or you choose to play for a small amount of your bankroll and have no problem withdrawing small amounts.

yes, but on balance ... Just because we are talking about small figures, what would be the reason not to do KYC ?! ok privacy but in the end nothing changes according to my point of view

I agree that we should support those casinos that do not have KYC or it is used for in rare cases. But I would not say that we should not worry - regulators are constantly increasing pressure on both cryptocurrency and individual projects related to it (casinos) and gradually this leads to less and less freedom. I hope the next stage of evolution - decentralized projects (including casinos) will turn the situation around again in favor of people, not officials.
In addition, I also hope that the government does not impose its will to regulate decentralized casinos because it is different from the casino they set before. Maybe the government can guide the casino always to obey the existing rules. If needed, the government can ask the casino to do KYC, even though KYC in the casino will be different from centralized casinos.

If it's at a casino, I haven't done any detailed KYC verification, which makes me think less of it. But if I find some casinos asking me to do KYC one day, maybe I will leave that casino and find another one that doesn't ask for KYC.

Commonly most of the usual gambling site that accepts fiat needs your verification and personal information upon signing up, the good thing I like crypto gambling site is that you don't need to provide full personal information and only a public email if they require you and in deposits and withdrawal any amount is allowed but not all gambling site but unlike common gambling sites that asks personal information you can withdraw and deposit without providing personal information.

So far i do have experienced on having that basic kyc or information needed which is on Roobet on where it do ask out about your very basic details without any verification or sending out some documents which is really a light one but there are still people who do sees this thing to be not that appealing but it doesnt really affect in overall popularity and reputation
unless if they are really that strict when it comes on sending out some documents which is really that frustrating or disappointing.

If you want to be licensed in certain jurisdictions you just have to meet their requirements: KYC and AML. So these activities are quite normal.

There is a huge number of gambling sites which do not impose such requirements on their users. They will not go anywhere and will have their market share because there is a demand for them. So I think there is no need to worry about regulation of gambling activities and cryptocurrencies.
There must be other ways to use gambling for us cryptocurrency users, just like before imposed requirements in many casinos. Not all crypto-based casinos will have requirements like KYC because they care about anonymity issues and although they do enforce KYC, it will not be as strict as fiat-based casinos. So we shouldn't have to worry and keep playing at casinos that don't require KYC.

For me I use cryptocurrency for anonymous transaction and to avoid KYC also, I find it way more convenient to deposit than using common deposits from third party services and it's easier for me to access cryptocurrency rather than using bank cards.
true, and for sure that's the common reason of others as well because of being anonymous with the help of crypto in any activities especially when it comes gambling, wherein its illegal in other countries. So i wouldn't be surprised why crypto users will be majority on this case.

There are few things that are definitely worth better than offline gambling when it comes to it :
1. COVID you don't have to worry about it since it's way safer to bet online and there are much more options available
2. There are games dedicated to the market you are looking for as well
3. You can win way more definately on many sites and some bonuses are very much better
4. You can bet with smallest possible amount as well
5. Signature campaigns offers great promos as well and the amount can get deposited right in your account making it way more easier to use that site
6. More privacy and less judgement

Life, Love and Laughter...
For me I use cryptocurrency for anonymous transaction and to avoid KYC also, I find it way more convenient to deposit than using common deposits from third party services and it's easier for me to access cryptocurrency rather than using bank cards.

While for me it's because of my sig campaign.  Grin  I have a weekly inflow of 80 bucks of BTC to bet on sports which is really enough to keep me entertained tbh.  I'm not a whale or anything.  I just like to watch football, MMA and F1 with or without bets but if I have free monies coming in weekly then why not gamble and try to win more, not that it matters.  It's all fun...  It'd be nice if crypto had a poker site with good traffic at the microstakes so we could have a chance to build a decent roll.  I think that's what's lacking in the space.
