New 24hr high.  Figured it justified resurrecting this thread.

Yes, the price went up from about $8.62 to a high of around $8.68 for around 15 minutes around 7 AM, then dropped briefly to around $8.35, and is currently around $8.58.

That's not a rally. That's a slow trading day.
Yeah, the volume ever since the end of the rally from 5.74 to 12 is ridiculously low. Bitcoin has lost its vitality and will probably need a new low that will hold to regain it in my view …

Wow, always fun to look back. Grin

[…] since we going to $15 for the conference.
Cool crystal ball you got there.

HAHAHHAHA THIS IS GOING TO BE EPIC !!
Seriously, some Bitcoiners are maniacs.
Some of these bears are depressive egocentric maniacs who dwell on destruction and panic. Let us be happy...

Do we have to counter it with exuberance of the exact opposite though? I’m bullish, but I like being realistic, and if you put in too much hope in what this conference can achieve for Bitcoin, you might be disappointed.

Though I really don’t see any fundamental that has changed to justify a rally. People still can’t actually utilize Bitcoin itself to store their weatlh because the client is terribly user-unfriendly (where’s wallet.dat, how do I encrypt it, etc.), and we’ve seen what this has done.
I have been reading up on some of the guests that will be attending at this event. Bruce seems to be doing an amazing job on the organizational front, and there seems to be people flying from all over the country(USA) and all over the world to be at this event.

There are big players that will be there to congregate, and all of the concerns that you mentioned above I believe will be discussed in full detail and addressed.

I am excited because there will be many smart people meeting with other people who have the funds to make a difference in this small Internet economy. It is a time for growth and prosperity for all, and while this my all be hard to believe I think we all crave it as human beings.
Don't shoot the messenger.

P.S It was a success IMHO , just not the success many were hoping for.

The news are all prices in already. Technical analysis always works. I know this is a bold statement but if you use technical analysis properly, you CAN succeed.
But to succeed you need to have 100% discipline to cut losses short and secondly, you need to have great money management skills.
All 3 together will make a great trader.

In terms of recent price action, we continue to see consolidation after the almost 50% rise from 8.4 $ to almost 12 $. This is absolutely normal.

The 10.5 $ - 10 $ area should offer formidable support for a further rise. Below 10 $ and we enter a neutral stance. Below 8.4 $ will likely lead to a test of the broad 5 $ zone.

If 10.5 $ -10 $ holds, the rally can continue and above 12 $ will likely lead to 16-17 $.

So it dropped a bit, despite that huge bid wall - S3052 - any comments?  Overall your predictions were pretty good - but maybe in the wake of real news - like this conference disappointment - technical analysis is useless?

I would not use a quick post by s3052 to sorta determine what he puts into his newsletter for paying customers.
For all we know he is telling them to sell and saying something else on a whim here on the forums.

Be careful what you are speculating, without doing the proper due diligence. I am not publishing different recommendations in the paid newsletter vs. public updates.

The fundamentals of the technical chart patterns are strong, this is what I mean. (sorry for the potential confusion)

Aha - so the technical analysis shows up trend - but both google trends and alexa are down, forum stats are down (but that of course is easily maniuplated) - and all the conference reports are rather underwhelming (this might change - but i was expecting some tweets or blog posts to appear relatively quickly - so far it's all quiet).  That 11.14 bid is strong - but it can still be a fake.  Let's see - for now I am holding.

And there is nothing wrong with that in my book. He can do as he wishes and I am not assuming to
put words into his "mouth".

I sold. By the time any upswing takes place I will have another chunk to sell. Average price over time
is what I shoot for.

Which media outlets showed up?Huh

Al Jazeera and Wired showed up.  I'm sure there were others, based on the list that Bruce put out several days ago.

That is pretty big. I am sure some local papers/bloggers also showed up. Who knows who covered it online?

There does not need to be new media coverage to push prices up.

The underlying market fundamentals are strong.

What do you mean by market fundamentals?  The system is burning huge amounts of money with little profit.

The conference itself is not what's going to push the price up - it's the resulting (positive) media coverage.  From the conference threads over in General Discussion, it definitely looks like the media showed up.  It'll take a couple of days for their stories to be produced.

There does not need to be new media coverage to push prices up.
