Nothing lasts forever
Today, I am going to write briefly about the Random Number Generator(RGN) and its importance in online casinos. So basically, what the RNG does is to ensure that when we play our favoruite casino games, it creates random number, thereby ensuring that the result of every game are random and fair. No one would enjoy playing a game where they have no fair chance of winning. So, what is its mode of operation? If you play slots a lot you would have noticed that there are random symbols that appears on the reels. And when it does, it determines whether you have won some cents, a dollar, or more. There are complex algorithm that have generated the random symbols. The same thing applies to other online games too.

In the past, I used to think or believe that the random numbers generated were controlled by the owners of the online casinos. I was wrong. They have no control over it. Instead, there are companies that monitor it to ensure that the numbers generated are as random as they are. Imagine the manipulation and bias in the game results if online casinos had control over the RNG.

Personally, I feel that the RNG is the most important tool by which gamblers can measure an online casino's fairness, transparency, accountability, and honesty and that it operates in an ethical manner. For me this is the major role of the RNG in the online gambling industry.

As a gambler have you ever read up on how the RNG works in online casino games, or do you simply trust that it's functioning properly?

While the casino has no control over the RNG,some slot providers like Play n Go are giving them 3 changeable RTP the lowest one being 96.27,then about 92 the second one and the last near 84 percent, and that I know or not 100% sure but something along those lines can be configured to be played with. This is some sort of RNG manipulation also as by changing the RTP to the biggest one it means it will give less winning combinations and will get one's money faster than the lowest RTP and I think we have no idea how to verify which RTP the casino is using, sure they may say in the description that we are giving 96.27 the lowest edge but how do I know that they have not configured the game with almost 16 percent to favor the casino?

Based on this I will switch to only games that have only one single RTP and I don't care about the high volatility, almost every good slot has it.

Howcome nobody is talking about this ? I have heard this the first time because everywhere else there's just one algorithm and they stick to it.
There's no change in it. Most sites use the provable fair algorithm which is by far the best algorithm to generate random numbers.
We should only stick to sites that use provably fair algorithm and at the same time provides a page where we can validate the outcomes of the same.

And always remember, gambling is played for fun, not to make money. I don't find games like slots, roulette, dice and crash to be interesting enough, so I avoid them. I don't avoid them, because I'll lose money, I avoid them because they don't seem entertaining to me.
In reality, there are many gamblers out there who bet to get big money and profits, things like this naturally happen because everyone will definitely take advantage of all the ways that can provide large amounts of money, such as gambling.
From the observations and experience that I have gained, if you want big profits in gambling, it is better to choose to make sports bets because there we can easily get a win if we can understand and understand all the matches that are taking place.
If games like slots, roulette, dice, and crash can't make you feel fun, then what kind of game do you like to be able to have fun while playing?

Nope, I don't trust "probably fair" gambling games and random number generators.
I just avoid the gambling games, that rely on picking numbers and randomness(dice, slots, roulette, crash), mostly because they are boring.
Many hardcore gamblers have told me that even the roulette games on the offline casinos are rigged so that the ball falls on a certain number.
If an offline casino can manipulate an actual roulette table, imagine what online casinos can do with online gambling games.
You should explain what's the reason why provably fair system isn't trusted and can be manipulated, if you not trust provably fair system then you're don't trust with cryptography especially SHA256 where it's used as the random algorithm.

It's not an appropriate judgement if you say offline casino can be rigged, online casino can be rigged too, you don't have a good explanation to back up your words. I don't care if luck based game is boring and RTP cause you to lose money in the long term, but the problem is about the provably fair system.

I never really looked it up about the number generators, it would have been awkward if the casino had full control about it. It's good that another company provides the random numbers to reduce the manipulation opportunities. RNG is definitely the biggest part in gambling, without it we wouldn't have any chance at all to win a big jackpot. The house edge is what makes the casino money overtime, so the more we gamble the higher our chance of losing money. That is why we the randomness part that can change to outcome in our favour. It's good to check how the casino operates, we shouldn't trust them blindly.

Did you see the one streaming session with the co-owner of Stake.com ..namely Eddie, where he used the Google random generator to pick winners and then one of the gamblers showed him that he can pick the next number, before it was ran on the random generator?

Yes, it is flawed.... if you know the first number that are drawn, so it is very important to "refresh" the page.. after each random number are drawn. The numbers are still random, but the next numbers can be pre-determined, if you continue without refreshing the page.  Roll Eyes

I still trust the RNG, but I also trusted Google random generator... and someone found a way to exploit it.  Roll Eyes

There was a time I thought casinos may actually always used a pseudo-random number generator with a seed from their serves, but then I realized that would not be suitable to keep their transparency in the long term among gamblers.

It is an interesting topic and any person into gambling with a basic understanding of numbers should read about it.  Wink

Just a few days ago I saw an engineer specialising in casino games, commenting that in Las Vegas and other reputable sites, the system is set up so that the results are randomised every time, using the RNG. He did not rule out that in some sites with little supervision the mechanism is manipulated to favour the house, but in regulated and supervised sites the system is completely random.

We have to think that even if it is random, the house is going to make money from the HE, it doesn't need to cheat anything. The casinos that may be tempted to cheat are those that do not manage to attract traffic to the site and a good volume of bets, because if these two things are achieved, with a good management of bankroll and maximum bet to avoid going bankrupt if a whale wins in the short term, profits are assured.

Yes, I have read about random number generation, the different approaches to get them and their applications within not only gambling but also on keeping Bitcoin wallets as safe as possible.
I personally think that most important part of a good RNG is the source of entropy, there are webpages that rely on atmospheric "noise" to get entropy, others use physical phenomena which are almost impossible to predict in a quantum scale.

There's the case of they truly have no power or control over it, and then there's "let's make it look random so no one would notice". I've seen one too many shady gambling sites do the latter and fail at it which makes me wonder, what if such a thing does exist? Some feature that would make it look as if everything is controlled by an RNG and not by some parameters set in the coding that would put the favor to the casino? Coz that is a possibility as well yeah?

In any case, the existence of RNGs truly helped the online casino business to boom, and it's only getting better with all this provably fair shenanigans that is pretty much like an RNG as well but with the catch of it generating a random seed that foretells the outcome, and every user can retrace from this client seed to further prove that they are being honest.
The random numbers are there for the protection of the casino, if a casino tried to somehow cheat and their random number generator did not gave random numbers but instead they could manipulate the results, hackers will soon enough discover the pattern in which this happened and they will take advantage of it, it is why when you see a gambler somehow beating the casino they do so by finding a way to reduce the randomness of the games, so while such a thing would be possible it could play against the casino as well.

Yes, it is very important that all punters who play with any regularity understand at least the basic concept of what determines the randomness of games in a provably fair system.

Basically there are two keys:
  • Server seed: This seed is unique and randomly determined by the server.
  • Customer seed: This seed is chosen by the customer (you) and can be modified at any time by accessing your settings on the site (at least this is how it should be on all betting sites).

It is also very important that you constantly change your seed, as well as checking your old bets right after switching. Every site "must" provide methods so that it is possible to verify all this information in order to do justice to the "provably fair" method

It depends on the games but for the most part, i'd just trust the casinos that it's working properly because most of the games nowadays are usually tested by a group of people and sometimes you can't verify them on your own though.

While the casino has no control over the RNG,some slot providers like Play n Go are giving them 3 changeable RTP
That seems convenient for the casinos and it's probably not just them as I remember playing the same slot game in different casinos but there was a user who mentioned a specific casino that was offering a lower RTP.

This is more known in gambling industry as algorithm I think, which is the randomized 'pattern' of the outcomes which are evident with dice games, roulettes, and slots. I doubt that all casinos have no power with RNG,there is a tendency that some has. Actually we wouldn't know not unless you yourself have your own gambling platform. But to think of the tendency, if there is a way to break the 'code' with these patterns, many people should have been rich already because they could take advantage on knowing the result and they could bet for themselves. And casinos cannot allow this kind of breach because they'd be the one to pay right?

This is what I am confused of. If they can adjust the RTP in favor to the house, why would it not be possible for them to manipulate it into some sort of its counterpart? Which could be more likely done by executive members of the casinos.
