I would probably go NEO over LTC, but your mileage may vary.

You should keep half of the money in bitcoin and you buy 1/4 of the remaining eth. I think you should trade coin to increase the amount of capital that you have this pretty easy but you have to spend some time to see the price. and watch the coin analysis

Long term hold. Not day trading.

Thanks for all your replies, some where very helpful !

Some altcoins that have been mentioned have been on my watchlist as well like STRAT, OMG, WAVES...

I'm sure XMR and ZEC are also nice to invest, but I don't wanna change some parts of my 80% BTC/ETH/LTC portfolio to them.
Smaller cap coin portfolio should stay around 20%, I think I'll mix it up like this :

50 % BTC
15 % ETH
15 % LTC

5 % IOTA
4 % NEO
4 % STRAT
3 % WAVES
2 % OMG
2 % QTUM

I took out XRP and XVG, I'm anyway not really sure about the future of these coins.
I still believe IOTA with their blockchain-free tangle technology will be successful.

Good choices, was thinking of 50% to the big 3 (BTC, ETH and LTC (as hedge)).
50% to altcoins - I'm a risk taker  Cool

10% NEO
10% WAVES
10% OMG
10% ARDOR
10% some other coin (still thinking on which small cap coin)

You have a good choice, these alt coins you have chosen to invest are good for holding 3-5 years.

All of them got good support from it's developers and as well as to most of the traders. I like your style that you invested more with Bitcoin.

And the rest will just follow the trend of bitcoin, so nothing against with your choice good luck with your 3-5 years holding.

Choosing Top 10 coins would not give you such benefit. This is a very basic portfolio as if you have some money to invest and choose Top 10 stocks in Nasdaq. If i were you, i would diversify:

High Market Cap
Medium Market Cap
Low Market Cap
Risky Level(like $1000 for about 10 coins)

I would never choose XVG, Monero and XRP. Of course, this is my thinking.

Add some OMG, STRATIS, a little bit of QTUM ( this coin is stable as fuck )
then you'll be Fine, you may never buy these coins this cheap again next year , so better stack up your bags now .

You miss Monero (XMR) in your portfolio!! How can you pick XVG over XMR? Its just a pump and dump shit. Monero's big time is coming! everything under 150$ is a good buyin for monero!

Hi guys,

I wanna do a long term investment of around 20k USD - holding the coins 3 to 5 years without selling any of them.

Main portfolio should be a mix of less risky coins - but I wanna put some smaller amounts to rising stars that maybe could go to the moon.

50 % BTC
15 % ETH
15 % LTC
8 % IOTA
4 % XRP
4 % XVG
4 % NEO

Goal would be to have a value around 100 - 300k USD in 5 years, which I think is really possible if everything works out well.

What are your opinions on this portfolio ?

It seems you do not have Bitcoin Cash. That one has very low transaction fees.

where are blockchain platforms ? ( Lisk , Stratis , waves , qtum ....)
These guys are beast next year.
I think IOTA , XRP , XVG suck, just my opinion tho.

I agree with this. Blockchain platforms / Blockchain as a service will be huge.
Stratis, Neblio, Waves, Nem and Ardor are all worth investing in, besides the obvious players like Ethereum and Neo.

I think this will underperform BTC and whatever you get out of the forks. Let's check back in a few years and see if I was right Wink

It looks very good. I would personally buy less than %1 ripple. I dislike centralized coins. I would also suggest you monero and zcash as they are both best anon coins right now.

The portfolio looks good, investing in Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin is good and as followmenot suggests i would also recommend monero and zcash.
monero has big support because of its secure anonymity function, something which will always be in demand.
