They are not going to ban but Russian authorities said earlier this year they would like to regulate the use of crypto-currencies by Russian citizens and companies.

I think this is a form of conspiracy, so far Russia has not banned ethereum, and only always makes news of controversy about bitcoin, they also continue to interrogate burger king as owner of whoppercoin. They realize that bitcoins can not be fully controlled and they want crypto currencies that can be fully intervened.

Next to china, another communist country russia has taken the same stand against bitcoin.Putin has termed bitcoin as a pyramid scheme. He has to find some reason to blame bitcoin for money laundering, illegal activities.Russia has never been friendly towards bitcoin from the beginning itself.

Very soon,we could expect the central bank of russia to ban all bitcoin exchanges in the country.I think that russia has decided to take actions against bitcoin very soon after china and south korea have taken the action.I think that these countries believe that combined and continuous action against bitcoin would hault its progress.

.But,despite china and russia's actions, bitcoin price is marching towards $5,000.Bitcoin is turning to be the unstoppable force.

They were talking shitless about adopting cryptocurrencies, they said their biggest online market is going to accept Bitcoin, Putin was talking about the

Future of money, suddenly what happened to change his mind? I bet Vitalik whispered in to his ears to push his own blockchain on top, this almost

Smells like Putin is following China in manipulation games?

I don't understand how Russia can ban bitcoin when recrntly they raised $100M to fund he largest bitcoin mining farm in Russia! Something seems off.

And if this news was true, we should have seen a big sell off in the price of bitcoin but there was hardly a dent.

1. Russian officials have no idea what they are doing, or what they really need.
2. They won't be able to enforce any kind of cryptocurrency ban, either usage ban or trading ban would be only dead law.
3. Russia banned bitcoin before, and if I remember correctly this only caused Bitcoin to be more popular in Russia.
4. Russian citizens will do whatever they want despite official regulations or plain BTC ban, people in Russian have a long history of fighting against the system after all.
Yea that's probably accurate. They probably don't know what it is or how to regulate it so they just ban it. It's only more exposure for bitcoin in Russia and people will be naturally more curious. If they ban it or not the free market is always going to find it's way beyond a ban. I also have doubts on how they will enforce this kind of ban. Shutting down exchanges would be a step but you can't stop on-chain exchanges like Ether Delta for example.

Does Russia prohibit bitcoin? In my opinion, no. Yesterday, Russian President Putin did not say very well about the bitcoins saying that they also financed terrorism, but there was no question of prohibiting bitcoin. So to say that Russia prohibits bitcoin prematurely.

I think its a little misinterpretation. The finance minister said that they will want to discuss the idea of regularizing Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies rather than completely banning it. I dont think they will do anything to ban bitcoin completely.

Russia has said before that it would like to regulate the use of cryptocurrencies by Russian citizens and companies.
This move seems to be in line with the idea of government control over Bitcoin. The blocking of citizens from using Bitcoin exchanges puts all the control over citizens and their digital currencies in the hands of the government.

There is no way that they can ban totally Bitcoin as the title implies 'Breaking: Russia Will Block Bitcoin Exchange Websites, Says Central Bank Official' they will only ban 'Bitcoin Exchanges' and not Bitcoin itself, this is like what China did if ever this will go through and there no major problem that we must worry in the future as Russians are too smart for them to worry with this kind of news.

'First deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia' is the one who stated this so there is no something new about this as an another banker again is about to try to regulate the exchanges and flow of Bitcoin in Russia as if that they can stop the growth of Bitcoin in the future, they are just so alarmed to the potential of cryptocurrencies.

I think the government and the banks are not able to control the money of people, which are using virtual coins. So they want to get rid of all these coins to recover the control on the money transactions.
Maybe that's one of the reasons. in my opinion the Governments fear bitcoin is a tool for illegal acts, money laundering and tax evasion in their country

Never mind Russia, with China itself we never had any serious effect on bitcoin and cryptocurrecy for long. Tell me now how do you think the Russia's actions will destroy bitcoin, huh? I think some people are just afraid and started thinking may be Russia's action will change the face of bitcoin which not going to happen. Bitcoin sets certain benchmark that no country in the world will destroy it because that's what true decentralization means e.g. China is the country with highest number of cryptocurrency investors - yet banned and bitcoin fully recovered like nothing happened in only less than 60 days. Russia too got nothing on bitcoin and all the rest of cryptocurrencies as well, trust me! Grin
