I think this is legit. Coindesk.com also posted about this news on Russia. I think they are just making a FUD news like what China did but they have a hidden plan to do about it. I don't know what it is but I smell something fishy. Cheesy
Same senarios of what happen a few months ago when China banning crypto currencies. We know it's a kind of alarming news but then, we must have to continue of what we have started. This is another challenge for crypto world and I believe that we can scape of being burst from criticism..

I heard one of the reasons is because mostly bitcoin used for illegal acts but I do not know the news is true or not, I think there is only one possibility that they are afraid the residents to evade tax because this is the main reason of the government banned bitcoin.

This was the first time that putin has took a stand directly against bitcoin. Its very surprising to see him terming bitcoin as a pyramid scheme.

He says that it would be used for illegal activities and money laundering all over the country.

Last month only, they were very much concerned about the saving bitcoin holders since its price is falling.

Totally contrast to it,this tie they were very much worried about the huge increase in price of bitcoin.

It seems that the central bank of moscow would ban all bitcoin exchanges in the country.

Despite china ban on ICOs,South korea ban on ICOs and now russia's ban on bitcoin, still bitcoin price is surging high towards $5,000 and it clearly shows the potential of bitcoin.

The good thing is they care for the public about the limits of freedom to make its own.
If you still think Bitcoin holds it safe, think about what happens during an economic depression. Market anxiety gives you some ideas. Mr. Market determines Bitcoin so it can not be considered "safe storage" at all. All it takes is 50% of the value in an instant.

Russia has always looked badly in digital currencies, and those services can attract regulators' attention, which means they will impose heavy regulation or perhaps even propose closures. The government will even propose a prison sentence for those using bitcoin

RUssia will not ban BITCOIN guys , wake up. IT's just a new wave of panic that will go amongst the bitcoin users. This is all about the increasing price of bitcoin lately and now it's almost at the peek of a major point so yea a little panic is always welcome for those who can speculate.

What is arguing for, now European Union will forbid btc and all debates will be solved..)))

European union has been pretty neutral in terms of Bitcoin. I don't think they'll be making any statements on it in the foreseeable future.

Seriously, I could see all large governments eventually trying to make crypto illegal.... it threatens their existence. Hopefully, we can get far enough along to simply ignore their laws. We need to take a stand against this fiat slavery system.

Ironically, just last month Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said: There is no sense banning [digital currencies], there is a need to regulate them.

I think it has something to do with the Russian male suspected of the $4B money laundering caught in Greece. But I think Russia will not entirely ban bitcoin and besides it is stated that they are only banning exchanges. They will not do what China did and that I think someone's manipulating things now that we're close to 5K again. Expecting the worst, if they do ban btc I think that people now realized how btc came back from the dip so only the newbies will be shaken by this kind of news.

1. banning an exchange is not banning bitcoin
2. cryptocoinnews is not a reliable source. they are known to write all kinds of weird bullshit and call it "news".
3. this year, reliable sources have been saying Russia is about to legalize bitcoin the same way Japan legalized bitcoin. this is a quote from the head of Russian Central bank actually. they said because bitcoin is traceable we consider it as legal.
4. nobody cares anymore about country ban FUD. Wink
At least I found a sensible reply in this thread. Well, I don't really believe that Russia can stop it's people from using bitcoins especially when everything is turning digital. I really don't know how Putin came up with this decision in a snap but I was hoping that Vitalik can do something about this.

Before if I'm not mistaken, it's dated last year there's a news that Russia did banned bitcoin and then removed it later on. I can't remember the source of that rumor but now it's for real so the Central Bank of Russia thinks that bitcoin is a dubious instrument for the retailers. They will say that only this time or this is just another FUD making to make the price of bitcoin lower again so that they can buy some more.

I agree that Russia is not trying to ban bitcoin per se, but is rather trying to regulate it, just as China is doing. There are potential problems with tax evasion, money laundering, and fraud, though bitcoin is clearly here to stay and is too decentralized to fully control. Russia is just not sure at this point how to handle the problems. Over time cooler heads in Russia will prevail and a middle ground will be found.
