It is strange that this is getting media attention, because people are getting robbed every day and it is not getting special attention.  Roll Eyes I guess the fact that they thought that this guy is having $10 000 worth of Crypto currencies on his phone, makes this news worthy.  Tongue

A lot of us are walking around with mobile phones, linked to Banking Apps that gives robbers access to all our money in our Bank accounts. So it is not just Bitcoiners that are vulnerable, because the money in your Bank accounts are just the same.

These criminals will cut off your finger to get your password and there are not a lot you can do about that. To prevent large losses, rather keep a high percentage of your coins in cold storage and do not talk about it.

but I guess everyone in crypto should understand the dangers whether online and offline.

it is a sad news but it is not a bitcoin or cryptocurrency related one. every single day lots of people are being killed in armed robberies all around the world specially in countries with high crime rate such as US. it is sad but it keeps on happening even when people take a lot of precautions themselves.

"The victim, Iroro Wisdom Ovie, a father of two, was beaten and shot by unknown gunmen last month at his Lucas area residence along the Police Station axis of Abraka."

Really really unfortunate, but the dude should've taken the small additional effort to at least try to transact on the police station itself(or at least literally outside the doors of the police station). This probably shouldn't have happened if he took the extra safety precautions. RIP.

Boasting about beautiful girlfriend and fat pay checks is not a right thing to do, especially when you live in a lawless country like Nigeria! You can't hide your beautiful girlfriend but you can definitely hide your finances! $10,000 USD in Nigeria is worth 3.6 million Naira, so you can understand how big that amount is for an average Nigerian. So the holder should have kept quite about it! But unfortunate death is always a Sad news! May his soul rest in peace!

It's definitely sad news to see a fellow Bitcoin supporter shot dead just because of owning it. You can never turn back time, it's important to take actions and precautions as early as now to prevent this kind of event happening. I did read the article and it's scary to think that this could happen to anyone. Be vigilant.

Yeah, for a measly $400, your life can be taken like that, and for those criminals, I do hope that the justice  system will put them behind bar for years to come.

And for us crypto enthusiast, the dangers are real, we should exposed ourselves because we really don't know that the person behind us is plotting to steal and worst will not think twice to kill us just to get our bitcoins.

Quote
“Investigations so far have also revealed that the bosom friend of the victim arrested had hinted one of the suspects of the discovery of $10, 000 in the victim’s Bitcoin wallet and then contacted the other suspects for the robbery operation. “From the confessional statements of the suspects, their intentions for carrying out the operation was to dispossess Iroro of the $10, 000 in his Bitcoin wallet but were disappointed to find out that what was left when they struck was $400.

I don't want to bring this news, but I guess everyone in crypto should understand the dangers whether online and offline. And another sad thing is that the man doesn't have $10k, but rather $400.

Also, we need not to tell anyone of our bitcoin stash, otherwise others might be tempted to robbed us as what happen here.
