The safest way of keeping bitcoins safe is go for desktop wallet like Electrum, which gives you full rights to use anyway and holding the private keys for bitcoin address is good but in web wallet your wallet is in control of the site owner. So it is not good to keep bitcoin in web wallet and exchange also.

Even with the risk of hacking, and the like I still think the best place to keep bitcoins is your own personal computer or a paper wallet made from it "and re-accessed when needed through your PC",
Keeping your money with other people has repeatedly been proven a very bad idea, from mtgox to bitfinex, always keep them with you IMO and the risk of "hacking" would be lower, with just a good AV and care when browsing.

For me, it is safe in standalone wallet where you can save your private keys. There is no safe  place to store it digitally but it depends on how to handle your important data. You can print and store your private keys in your safety deposit box if you have.

There's no safe in digital world and it is depend upon you on how to handle that kind of treat to your bitcoin.
Just trust your bitcoin wallet provider and cash-out some of it.

IMO i would use cold storage/hardware wallet, if i should keep bitcoin using web wallet i will use blockchain.info, bittrex or poloniex to store my bitcoin and make sure you use 2Auth to make it secure

I agree with you on the hardware wallet but the web wallet no matter the 2 or 100 factor Authentication it is still centralized and has 50-50 chance or risk being hacked like the OP is worried about.

What is the safest way to keep bitcoins.

Taken dangers like hacking, losing in to account!
I use a wallet that has double security to store btc like google authenticator or two-factor authentication. actually to secure your account it depends on yourself carefully when receiving emails that link your wallet account because of the possibility of phishing.

If you have fear to loss your Bitcoin then I will suggest to use bloclchain.info , At the bloclchain no one can access your password until you exposed to anyone , and also no one can reset the password of your account because there is no option to reset the password of blockchain  . After deposit of the fund in blockchain you will find the option of backup for the future problem ( never share data of your backup also) .
If still after the blockchain you have any problem of fear them I will suggest you for the paper wallet storage where you can save your Bitcoin in offline , but you needed to follow some steps to create own offline wallet , so that no one can hack your wallet because you made everything in offline , when you needed to transfer your Bitcoin then import your private key in the block chain or in mysselium and use according to your need .

I guess the best bitccoin wallet you can use is a hardware wallet so i guess it is the most safe because it is a hardware so definitely it is offline bitcoin wallet so probably it is not prone in hacking because it is offline i guess and also it can only be steal when your hardware has been steal.

To be honest bitcoin wallets are very secured. Alway have two step step verification turned on for your Cold storage. Write down the paper keys or print it and keep it safe. If you have two steps enabled no one can really hack into your wallet that easily. Even I was worried about the storage of bitcoin but I completed read the two step verification and its importance in your long term use. If your wallet doesn't support the two step verification I would really suggest you to change the wallet if you planning to put in large money in there. Do not put your money on exchanges they can turn into scam at any time if they loose their assets, you will loose too.

I found it safest than others bevause I can access it anywhere and anytime as long as I am connected to the internet.
How does that makes anything safer? This actually makes your wallet multiple times more susceptible to hackers and scammers. Having your wallet accessible anywhere means that your money is open for anyone that finds a breach on the website storing your Bitcoins.

The way you talk about this, makes it look like that you don't have more than 0.2 Bitcoins on your wallet simply because this is just a dumb decision and nobody should have this kind of mindset. If you care about your coins, you SHOULD at least save them on a wallet stored on your computer. You don't even need a cold storage if you think that is too overkill.

But it is all your choice to where you think is safest and if you can access it fastest so you will not regret.
You can think whatever you want. But it's a fact that a cold storage is safest than a web wallet. I hope you never get the chance to experience being hacked and losing all your coins just because you wanted a "fast access" for your coins.

For me I will suggest to have online wallet since I am using that for so long, I mean from the very start when I use bitcoin. I found it safest than others bevause I can access it anywhere and anytime as long as I am connected to the internet. Actually most of here people will suggest you to get Cold storage since it not hackable and cannot be accessed by anyone but yourself alone.
But it is all your choice to where you think is safest and if you can access it fastest so you will not regret.

I think that poeple are overreacting when it comes to online wallets, i mean what is the safest using an offline wallet and storing your coins on desktop where you are vaurnable for hacks and your pc could stop working and you can't do a thing about it, or store them on online wallets where they are stored on servers with complete secuirrity.

COLD STORAGE! COLD STORAGE! COLD STORAGE! An offline wallet cannot be accessed and consequently hacked.

I agree that cold storage is the best way. For newbies, electrum could be the best option.
You can store your coins in cold storage and all you have to do is save the seed in a safe place.

Yes, I do agreed electrum is one of the best in terms of storaging bitcoin, in fact at the present time now I am using electrum wallet
to store all my bitcoin in a long terms. and multibithd  is also a good one.

Offline wallet, but only if you won't be using your Bitcoins on a daily basis
I would have an offline wallet as well since the people that put their coins on some kind of wallet online has more of a risk of it getting tampered with. There’s a bunch of Bitcoin clients available and it does not require much to download it as of now since there is not that many people using Bitcoin.

i think every wallet we know its safe to keep bitcoin and its depend for us how we keep and save that wallet. as long as only us that will know the place and what is the private key, then the wallet its still safe and no one can used the wallet. i am prefer with offline wallet and android phone wallet but for android phone wallet, we need to hide the wallet from the other people that maybe will hack our wallet.
