I have seen this attack as well.
I was looking at results, and seeing 0.00000001 over and over again.

Bets under 0.0005 should return nothing, to prevent attacks.
Bets under 0.0005 should just be accepted as donation gifts.
Any bet above 0.0005 should have transaction subtracted from them.
So if someone sends 0.0006 they get back 0.0001.

This would make much more sense.

Satoshidice should implement this.

No. They didn't process the bet yet, probably because they're busy rejecting thousands of 1 satoshi bets.

I would support SatoshiDice just keeping the "Below Min" bets as donations. I don't have a problem at all with it. It would make this kind of attack expensive and obsolete.

Looks like someone is sending many 1 satoshi bets. For example: http://blockchain.info/tx-index/35996634

SatoshiDice pays a separate fee for each bet. The attacker only pays a single fee to attack all the SatoshiDice addresses in a single transaction.

The 0.01 as min bet is killing me so I had to quit, I used to play with small amounts in a gambling wallet looking for low lucky numbers. Now I have to stay above 12000 all the time, and there is no fun in that.

It will be great if you reconsider your decision, at least for number bellow 4000 for example

I added some calls to a cache to avoid hitting the database. This has improved things a great deal.

2) We were running out of available funds, which means we would pay with pending funds which can lead to a very poor user experience. This is not good and led to the system thinking there was more funds than actually were there in our online wallet causing it to automatically send excess funds to an offline wallet. This of course didn't help with problem #2 above. I'll be working to track that down. In the process of doing that there have been some outages in processing last night and this morning. There will likely be more as I rebuild tables and do consistency checks over the next week or so.

so i was right you are running out of funds... regardless i can't see the harm in running my php martingale script at min .001 if im paying the .0005 tx fee can some one explain to me how that is bad ? what effect it has on satoshi dice or the network itself ? i would think overall it would be a good thing for the network increasing traffic

No contradiction. SD has plenty of money, but the database thought it had even more than that, resulting in some of the hot wallet funds being sent into cold storage. Thus the hot wallet had far less than it should, and this caused issues.
