Unfortunately most countries have immunity on diplomats that's why some diplomats abuse it. Most cases, they're just sent back to their home country. Good thing that this didn't happened to Singaporean government and i salute them for teaching a lesson to this diplomat.

The idiot Saudi thought that Singapore was like the United States and India, where rich Saudis could rape whomever they want. He was proven wrong, and was sentenced to 26 months imprisonment plus 4 cane strokes in his buttock.

Reminds me of the incident in 1995 when then teenager Michael Fay was given 4 lashes for being a punk and spray painting cars in Singapore - he was originally sentenced to 6 lashes but had it reduced to 4. This rapist pos should just be caned to death.

Why so small? such a light punishment
I was told by a taxi driver in Singapore in January, that one cane lashing to the buttock would prevent you from walking normally for 6 months.
I don't know the facts of the case, but I thought rape was punished with death in Singapore?
I was also told that just touching a woman on her shoulder in a lewd manner without her consent was enough to get prison time and cane lashings.

I support applying jurisdiction over citizenship, not the territory. If Saudi citizen committed crime in Singapore he must be sent to Saudi Arabia and prosecuted under Sauidi laws.
It is 100% fault of Singaporean authorities who granted visa to this man and local court can give some lashes to visa officer (just a joke, personally I am against caning, monetary fine will be the best option). Then he will think twice before issuing visas!

Why so small? such a light punishmentEven if it was just one stroke, it will deter people from committing similar crimes in the future. It may be over in 2 minutes, but the severity of the punishment is enough to create a fear in the mind of the criminals.
They seem more like a tool to disgrace a person, shatter his dignity and undermine the authority of his position.
I bet that Saudi diplomat will remember that episode for the rest of his life very vividly.

I don't think that in Singapore, the caning is administered in the open. So the humiliation part is not that severe. However, in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the GCC nations, it is given out in the open.

If you have the money to pay 1000 bucks a night, why do you go somewhere? Tours in Thailand became so widespread because there are no stringent laws for sexual harassment and a lot of cheap prostitutes.
Tours in Thailand became so famous because what is not legal in the western nations is legal there. Also, most of the girls trafficked in to the sex trade are from the minority hill tribes.
