A person needs to love themselves first. You can't truly love anyone else until you wholeheartedly love yourself first and foremost. Loving yourself requires that you achieve an inner wholeness, meaning that you are not lacking in any type of emotional way. People often make the mistake of looking outwardly to find happiness, such as through money, material objects, even relationships. External factors will never bring happiness, or as I prefer, a feeling of internal peace. The only true way someone can attain inner peace is by turning inward and working on themselves first.

I think the secret to really being happy is contentment. People who are contented with what they have, no matter how simple, are the ones that enjoy true happiness.
