What I wanted to say is that for some newbies and old members it may take a long time to rank to Legendary. Even some members will never reach that rank because either they will retire from this forum or will be dead.

Yeah, sure it is difficult. 1000 merits is definitely no joke. But I'm referring to mostly to those users have been registered for more than 2 years and with like 300+ activity points, and are complaining on how impossible it is to earn merit even though 90% of their posts are on bounty/airdrop threads. I get your point though.

The point being that Chipmixer for sure has good posters, but looking at it from a broader view, they represent 16% of the top merited over the past 30 days – the same as CryptoTalk (a larger perspective may change the ratios, but the 30 day one is pretty easy to do). 40% of the list don’t have a campaign signature.

At last count, Cryptotalk had nearly 10 times as many members as Chipmixer.

Last 30 days are heavily skewed by the art contest. I don't know if that favors Chipmixer or Cryptotalk though.

I mean how SLOW and RETARDED would you have to be to not find out about bitcoin for the first 7+ years hahah.....

To many people , bitcoin does not revolve around this very forum, I do not claim to have known bitcoin 1 week after Satoshi published the bitcoin whitepaper,it took me many years to get involved, but i have learned about bitcoin long before i sign up to the forum, I used to search for many things , mostly mining related and I was always directed to this forum, i, like many others , used to get what I wanted and leave, i was more into facebook and telegram groups, and to be honest the forum with this old SMF style was never tempting enough.

In fact even when I decided to sign up to bitcointalk, it was mainly for the market place and nothing else, but then suddenly and out of nowhere, i started to be active here and decided to give back, i contributed a lot to the forum specially the mining section, never bothered applying for any signature campaign for almost a year despite having earned tons of merit.

I also think what's worse than not knowing about bitcoin early enough, is knowing about it and not owning enough of it  Roll Eyes,  if you knew bitcoin when it was pretty cheap and you don't own a lambo by now, then you don't have the right to mock new comers.

I also read all posts from all Chipmixer participants (including you) because Chipmixer participants are considered to be the best posters. Chipmixer signature is like a batch[1] badge now and helps in earning merits faster, so to ranking...

Nobody with any kind of  knowledge here considers chipmixer spammers here to be the best posters.

Chipmixer sig spammers are predominantly SHIT POSTERS and low functioning CORRUPT dregs. There are a tiny handful of reasonable Chipmixer spammers but the best posters on this forum would NEVER SPAM SIGS here.

Just because you likely are far too low functioning to realize most of their spurious garbage is net negative that is no reason to feltch your garbage all over the place. We have challenged plenty of chipmixer sig spammers to present their best original thought inspiring posts for analysis. Most ran away. They are just backscratching corrupt scum who lodge themselves on DT and cycle merit and trust inclusions.

@ iamsenko or whatever...

CHANGE THE TITLE if you are not really going to make it AFTER the merit system. You can not say AFTER the merit system if you were airdropped ANY merit.

You need to have joined AFTER THE MERIT system right? or did not receive ANY airdropped merit.

Although it is hilarious to see SELF CYCLED noob "Legendary" or " heros" seemingly dreaming they are some kind of superior breed ....haha you do realize MOST of the REAL achievements here were made by premerit legends that have hardly any of this crappy cycled merit? Look at all the big developers, REAL scam hunters, etc  all old members that hardly have any cycled merits.

I mean how SLOW and RETARDED would you have to be to not find out about bitcoin for the first 7+ years hahah.....

self made = dumb shits who were too stupid to realize bitcoin existed for years on end. ...... well done dummies. Thanks for coming 7 years after the party started just to claim only you guys are the smartest and best because now you can feltch, beg and spam to get some bitcoin dust that we all got for 100x less.

Your signature on a forum says a lot about you, so if someone wears a "badge of honour", people are more likely to read their posts than someone who wears a "badge of spammers".

I am wearing no signature.
I have my dearest posts in my signature.
I actively refused to wear some signature campaign proposed to me.
If I wear a campaign in the future, I don't think it will alter my posting habits, so I guess my merit flows will be untouched.

I will wear my signature campaign as a "badge of honour", indipendently by the merit or coin flows it will guarantee to me.

Of course, they are quality posters and I don't doubt that and I also don't doubt DS's selection criteria. Those participants would not have got accepted in the first place if they weren't quality posters. My point was different, it's something like psychological I guess if I used the correct word. Chipmixer participants earn more merits than any other campaign participants.
It is clearer with your explanation. Previously, it is easily to infer your previous post in the way that users will earn merits faster after becoming Chipmixer's participants. I could be wrong in the way I inferred your previous post but I don't think I inferred it inappropriately.

People send merits to quality posts which deserve merits not because of posters wear ChipMixer signature. I (and others) can wear ChipMixer signature too but it does not help me earning merits faster. Different classes of users have different ability and speed of merit earning.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation and I eventually understood what you wanted to point out.

In other aspect, I agree that becoming ChipMixer's participants require them to maintain their post-quality as stably high as possible. Somehow it passively increases ChipMixer's participants' post quality over time but the process is very difficult to realize shortly.

As an example, Cryptotalk participants, do you think they will get more or equal merits the same as Chipmixer participants just because they wore Cryptotalk Signature? Whereas the whole forum keeps tagging one thing "Cryptotalk participants are SPAMMERS"... How many threads do you think are there about Cryptotalk? Don't you think there are quality posters? but they are just buried somewhere, they are barely get recognized because of the actual spammers, the only reason is they wore Cryptotalk signature.

I've merited some posts with Cryptotalk signature lately, but I've probably reported more of them, or deleted them from my self-moderated threads.

The first part is right but the second part is wrong. Applicants of ChipMixer must be very good posters to be accepted as participants. I meant they have to be very qualifying before getting acceptance from the manager of ChipMixer (DarkStar_) so they do have very good ability to earn merits.

I don't think the same user will earn more merits in the same period simply because becoming ChipMixer's participant and wearing ChipMixer signature.

I forget to mention other merit earning aspects in my previous post.

  • Friends (not talking about abuse)
  • Fans
  • Country Man - Local boards (again not talking about abuse)
and so on.  Roll Eyes

Those who are earning merits fast to faster, at light speed are either Meta, Rep, BH, WO, Local Boards posters or posting in all and are Chipmixer participants.

As an example, I miss my local board because I can't post there for some reason. If I could post there than I'd have earned more merits, right? So each member has their limitation which will affect their ranking.

By a request from TMAN, I dropped another list to all that have received merit but not enough to reach the Legendary rank but have the activity ( actually that was my initial intention but I extended it a bit). YOu can see it here > https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.53056924

Definitely going to bookmark this thread.
I also enabled notification for this thread as I don't want to miss anything regarding the topic.

I'm going to link this topic every time some bonehead says something ridiculous like "iTs iMpOsSiBLe fOr NeWbiE tO eArN MeRiT".
We all know Merits drop like Raindrops in Meta, Rep, BH and WO boards and also to the Chipmixer participants. But not all newbies in the past and in the future will be a Meta, Reputation, BH, and WO poster. Not all newbies and also the old members will get interested in forum things, forum politics or in BH and WO boards. So the ranking difficulty level between the two sides will be always different imo. Those who post in Meta, Rep, BH, WO will rank faster maybe in two years and the other side will rank maybe in 5 years even they are not spammers and are quality posters.

I'm not saying anything against the members mentioned in OP, I know they are quality posters and I do always read their posts and I also know how much efforts they gave to reach the level they are in now.

I also read all posts from all Chipmixer participants (including you) because Chipmixer participants are considered to be the best posters. Chipmixer signature is like a batch[1] badge now and helps in earning merits faster, so to ranking...

What I wanted to say is that for some newbies and old members it may take a long time to rank to Legendary. Even some members will never reach that rank because either they will retire from this forum or will be dead.

Either we need more merit sources to balance the merit drops in all the boards or the current merit sources needs to be more generous in all other boards except those 4 boards.

My best wishes to the members mentioned in OP... Keep up the good work.

The merit system was designed to make it hard to rank up, and it looks like it's doing a damn good job.  But Jesus, it might be making it too hard to rank up, especially for members who make good, but not excellent, posts.  I'm still thinking more merit sources might be necessary, but I have no way to know how enthusiastic the current ones are about distributing merits.

Most of the members who have received more than a thousand merits have received them for forum related activities, and not for Bitcoin or crypto posting, and this includes me. Whilst stats and discussions about the forum are important, we shouldn't forget that we are here to promote and discuss Bitcoin, and to a lesser extent alts and political changes. Since I have reduced my forum projects, my merit receipts have taken a dive. I believe that merit sources and posters should look to Bitcoin discussions to earn merits.

We are entering a time of great political change. Brexit is massively important, not because the UK will be leaving the EU, but because it has exposed the control and activities of the Anglophone empire. Corporate stock buybacks are open and being discussed, and they indicate insiders opinions of the economic future. Stats like the Bitcoin, Gold and Silver prices, and indices such as the Baltic Dry, PMI and employment are revealing the extent of the changes that are happening. Bitcoin is an important catalyst for future change - lets talk about it.

^There are some good points there but think about it, promoting bitcoin on a Bitcointalk board would not have a greater impact ot the normal people (those not related to crypto). What we can do is to actaully promote it outside to those who don't know what bitcoin is or just have heard rummors of scam and criminality related to bitcoin. Those are the people we have to win on our side, not those that are already here.
That's why I have this hanging in my office.

Brand New users after Merit was introduced have to go the hard way.
This is what most brand new complain about, but not many of them are "newbi" who feel ignored by merit sources or any members if they find constructive and useful posts.

Because the level of knowledge of each user is different, many complaints come from those who have low quality posts, while those who can make good posts, they will feel comfortable with this rule.

Fair enough. Looks like we may need some different Legendary ranks so that we could tell them apart Grin
My basic assumption is much simpler: I compare Merit to Activity when I want to have a first impression of someone's posting quality.
Code:
if Merit > Activity then good, else bad
Of course there's an acception for "old" members with thousands of Activity but "only" 2000 Merit, they just need more time to catch up.

Let's complain and create a new topic "Activity is so unfair. Remove it plz."  Tongue
Let's make a new one: Post count + Merit + Activity.

Quote
Actually, I think it's harder to earn Merit when users are Legendary and their Merit is above 1,000.
Some people save their sMerit for the lower ranks, but on the other hands many Legendary users are more recognized. Recognition leads to posts being read, which in turn increases the chance or being Merited.

I've said this a long time ago: Merit allows new users to stand out above the many spammers. Good new users are now easily highlighted by their Merit count.
