...wouldn't it be a good idea to sell some bitcoin to be able to do that?...

It is possible that buying altcoins for BTC now will be the right decision, since almost all altcoins in relation to bitcoin are at the lowest levels. But you should remember that if bitcoin continues its decline, the price of altcoins will decrease much more than BTC. Therefore, make your purchases in parts.

When more altcoins go down I'm not sure it will come back as fast as they go up in contrast to bitcoin which is quite strong in the market and could be good to buy bitcoins instead of altcoins.
To me, this is not a good idea and it would be a big risk to buy altcoins during a downturn that has to be sacrificed to sell bitcoins.
But every decision is different when it becomes an option on altcoins I think your desire is so strong.

If you think logically, then in principle you are right, but in practice it is not clear how the market will behave, it can go up sharply and your positions will not be so positive. I think that, of course, it is necessary to sell a part even when he was 50, then just buy.

Same time there are few altcoins that are on the rising side even when the Bitcoin market is down. Holders of those altcoins could prefer to buy bitcoin for altcoins. Bitcoin seems to gain momentum around $40k to $42500. Maybe a breakout could take the price higher, and if there happens a decline down to $40k then it is real start of bear market. So, always have some backup plans to keep up the portfolio against the unpredictable market.

I'm new at all this but I've been filling my head with bitcoin news lately and things sound a bit dire... uh, bearish?  Still learning the lingo.

If I have a little bitcoin, small time stuff here for you high rollers, but it's 4x my initial investment now, and I'd like to get into other cryptos and learn trading and coding dApps with them...
wouldn't it be a good idea to sell some bitcoin to be able to do that?
Altcoins are already dropping, and that is the same thing with Bitcoin, they are all dropping in value. But this year we might be seeing altcoins reach high price because the year for Bitcoin has passed. Bitcoin has already seen its own period that was more of a bullish trend, and now it is the time for the altcoins in the market to also see their own bullish trend and increase in value.

I think Bitcoin and altcoin has it's own bull run already last year, so not sure if altcoin market can still bounce back from this coming bearish trend. Maybe some of them will, but for sure majority will still going to suffer a long bear market.

I sold my Bitcoins about twice during the bullish trend last year, first was when it reached $50,000 and the next was when it got to $60,000. And I have already invested in some new altcoins, and there are also some altcoins that I sold, just did some reshuffling on my portfolio to make sure that I have the possible best for this year.

I sold mine too, but not to invest on altcoins, personally I've done with the altcoin fever for now.

Maybe a few here and there, but those solid ones and not the hype or meme coins. Although I must say that I have the experience, but it might be too tiring for me. So I will re-enter on Bitcoin only and buy the dip and increased my holdings again.

Could've done that when the price were still doing good but right now, I don't think that it's the right thing to do because you're selling when the price is low which means that you're going to get less altcoins with the money that you've profited out of selling a small amount of your bitcoin.
Selling your coins at this point will be of no use, it’s a complete loss for you since the market has been very low. I would suggest that anyone who has plans to invest in the altcoin market should best invest in it with a different money and not sell their Bitcoin because of it. If you’re to sell now is going to be a loss, the market has gone down from over $60,000 and down to $40,000.

Except for those who happen to sell when it was at its all time high price. They can decide to invest part of the profit that they have gotten from the investment in the Altcoins market. Moreover most of the  coins in the market has been decreasing in value, such as ethereum, Litecoin, and most other top alternative coins in the market.

Why would you sell a fraction of your bitcoin invesment just to buy some other altcoins? Are you for real mate? That ain't a good idea to start because even if you're new to this, by now you already know what's the difference of bitcoin to other coins and it's not logical. You could always invest to altcoins separately without touching your bitcoin.

I'm new to trading and wow it's more complicated than coding. What do you guys think?
Those two you mentioned is a two different skill and surely theyr'e both complicated as those skills can't be learn in just a matter of few weeks.
Trading deals with your psychological and emotional point of view while coding deals more in math.

You are right. Selling bitcoin at a low price is definitely not a good thing to do. Just wait when the market turns bullish again so you can sell your bitcoin at a good amount. While others are prioritizing to buy bitcoin at this dip, then there you are thinking to sell bitcoin just to buy altcoins. I understand that you really want to make this opportunity fulfilling on your part but what you're planning to do is not the best thing to do. If you don't have extra funds to buy altcoins at this dip, then don't push it hard. Your portfolio is not that bad as long as you have bitcoin that will make your future more bright and profitable.

If sacrificing Bitcoin just to buy altcoins in my opinion is not a good choice. Because we are still at the ideal price to continue to take over at a low price. Don't let us repeat many mistakes. Though Bitcoin has provided so many gaps to enter. Our biggest mistake was not buying when it was cheap. And today if there are still people who see the price drop but let it pass. Please don't complain if the person says regret later.

Let's take a look at the people who are trying their luck on altcoins because the Bitcoin train is never coming back so we will see how they will move as fast as Bitcoin.

well, it's more complicated than coding, because it can't be guessed with certainty. If you're interested in altcoins, I'd rather keep your bitcoins, and buy altcoins with other money you invest in.
well, currently the price of bitcoin is indeed going down and it is a good opportunity to own bitcoin or altcoins. it's just, I think that selling bitcoin is not the right decision. it may be more appropriate to collect bitcoins at this time than to sell them for altcoins.

It seems like the logical thing to do. But, I'm new to trading and wow it's more complicated than coding. What do you guys think?

It is all about how we make use of our trades works so well and it seems to be effective. If we have some Bitcoin and sell some as for capital, not really a bad idea, instead, we are growing our investment, and that sometimes we need to sacrifice some to gain more.
I would say, just go for it. We need to be more strategical than just holding, as long as you were good at trading that is never a problem. Perhaps, trading is profitable and that is the reason why many would love to try it but unfortunately, in many cases that some of these traders had failed.

i just don't understand why you need to sell bitcoin to learn how to encode dapps? And another point if you already have 4X profit with bitcoin then selling some bitcoin for dollars and buying altcoin against dollar would make more sense because you would have guaranteed 3X profit, but if you still keep making bitcoin hodl you could still have that same profit, so at the end of the day it's the same whether you sell bitcoin or not

[Nope]No hype delivers more than hope
I'm not so sure good or bad, adding altcoins in the portfolio is also worth thinking about. These decisions are a kind of determination of your trading journey, sometimes they can turn things around or make things worse.

In fact there is no method of profiting in the bitcoin spot market during a bearish (or sideway) season other than holding back rather tediously to recover losses in an uncertain time. This situation often makes people want to try new experiences to fight it.
OP, I don't understand the dApps code you are thinking of, but does that mean you will try implementing that code in your trading?

Most altcoins depend on the value of Bitcoin so I don't think it's a wise idea to sell Bitcoin in exchange for altcoin investment. It would be better to buy and accumulate more Bitcoin and just save something if you want to invest with a potential altcoin but as for me, Bitcoin should always be a top priority. We've seen how Bitcoin could be profitable so we'll lose the opportunity to make a good profit if we'll sell it right away.
Knowing bitcoin which has the most stable foundation and will easily bounce back and reaches the highest value, i think selling it will not make you profitable in the future. Although your intention is good because you want to grab the opportunity to buy altcoins, but if you are running out of budget, you could have focus more on saving bitcoin because that is the most secured and most profitable coin in the market. Otherwise, you'll end up in making losses if you pursue selling bitcoin at its low value.

Actually, it is a difficult situation if to choose to sell our Bitcoin to buy some altcoins for altcoin seasons. Because we don't know exactly where altcoin season will truly meet up.
Bitcoin investment has been okay and it may be better to put your money in Bitcoin investment.
However, if you are really willing to turn some of Bitcoin amounts to altcoins, ensure that you choose the right altcoins.
We know that sometimes, we are encouraged with the hype and also willingness to get profits soon, moreover by trading. Are you sure about the risks of trading and you are ready with this?
If there is no problem anymore, you can consider to do this risky decision.

Don't sell your Bitcoins, instead buy more than you currently have and take advantage of the big correction that occurred to get a lot of Bitcoin discounts. Moreover, when the price of Bitcoin drops, altcoins will also fall and will deepen. Hold bitcoins and add them to the balance in your portfolio in the long term. Always remember the words of others "The bitcoins you buy today will never be found again at that price". There is no ideal choice but to collect more. Because if the bitcoin train is running, anyone and for whatever reason will be left far behind.

If you are so sure that Bitcoin will dump I'm sure that the altcoins will drop too, and the idea of selling bitcoin and moving to altcoins after the dump is a good idea or a good entry right now I was in the middle of something and cannot sell both my Bitcoin and altcoins I think I should just stick around with holding rather than trying to day trade my coins.
Yes, it would be best to hold your bitcoin and altcoins and not sell them because that would not be a good idea. Maybe after bitcoin is falling, the altcoin can have time to rise and if that really happens, maybe we can see some altcoins increase higher. That is another scenario that can happen while the bitcoin price is down. But if he wants to sell some little bitcoin, maybe that will be good if he can get the right coin to buy because there are many altcoins out there and he needs to analyze deeper to find the coins.
