This is one of the oldest scams in crypto. Don't fall for it. It's his money and the passphrase is probably just another private key, or two private keys. You'll never get it. Move along.

If he IS the owner of the account... why would he be trying to scam for 0.5 BTC when he’s holding over 373k... So, it’s obvioisly not even his account... and if it was his account and he did have the password just waiting to send out the coins after he recieved the 0.5 wouldn’t make sense... no point to scam for that low amount holding over a quarter of a million dollars. Only two options, it’s not his account period, or he legitimately doesn’t have the password and is retarded enough to give up after a few try’s and sell it for less than 1%

Back in 2012 that was only 300$, just saying. But this posts is obvious a scam, there are many services to brute force the password and recover the coins and they charge you 10% of the amount if I remember well.

Tell you what, send the wallet.dat file for free and if I figure out the password, I'll give you 10 per cent.
If you're legit, it involves the same level of risk except you're wearing it instead of the other person, and expecting to be sent cash for nothing. If this is a scam (which it looks like) then you obviously won't do it and instead wait for someone to send you money for nothing.

If you want to have it back, just look for someone who can help you with it, just like forcing to crack the private code with a virus or something(as for example), (I am not saying you'll do it yourself) but if you can contact the developer for the wallet then they can help you with it with your proof of ownership like KYC, since everyone can't just find a hacker to do the job.
Their is no "developer" that can get into your own wallet.dat file this isnt an exchange its his personal wallet which probably isn't true to even begin with

Before a couple of days I remembered where i had a wallet .dat file with address inside txt file (18KYtY7vSnPxDdNtr4pt1Sivkgnzebtp2Z).
Problem is only i can't remember password, tried a lot to remember but can't.
If someone is interested i can sell that file for 0.5 btc or give me the best offer.

I don't believe your story is true like most of other people told. But if its true then I can try brute forcing the file , if your password didn't contain much special characters / numbers and was made up of dictionary words and common names etc. I can pay you half the file if the brute force is successful In good years bought 50 bitcoins and left them on wallet.

There is no way anyone is going to pay anything for an encrypted .dat file. Just use a service that offers to crack it for a fee of the recovered funds. If not locked the thread as its not gonna get anywhere.
