Too many people are under the impression that smartphones make their lives easier. Smartphones will never die.

My thought is this though: If you depend so heavily on a device that, if the grid went down your life would come to a standstill, you should re-think the usefulness of that device.

I don't think this is possible, normally humans nowadays follow what's trending. We live in an era where we we are technology addicts. Maybe some will resort to old phones but maybe only few will do it.

First, most of forum members have internet access at home. Some still go to internet-cafe.
Second, smartphone is spying satan compared to basic phones or feature phones.
Third, feature phone browser is enough when on-the-go.
Fourth, buy a tablet or PDA when you must review documents or do something business-related on the go.
Fifth, many Wi-Fi hotspots are for monetization and making money.

That's why smartphones will die in 10 years, we will start again to use basic phones and make street internet great again. For example free or paid internet shed and telephone shed. For example London is getting uglier (no phone sheds) due to mobile phone revolution. I suggest everyone if you want to join the protest switch to basic phone for 3 days.

Why would smart phones die. It really makes almost no sense.

Just becuase people have computers at home and at work doesn't mean smartphones are useless or something.

It is like having a portable tablet that can also handle streaming 1080P and + a lot of them are for taking videos and good pictures. Pic quality and lots of things going up each time for high res.

I've been trying to get rid of my landline for years, but the internet provider requires it for the internet and whenever someone calls (usually my grandmother once a month), I can say that I get confused for a moment since we're never using that phone. They are absolutely not needed.

Your reasoning is hilarious, its the same reasons people gave when they said cell phones would never catch on.

You are deluded.

Unlikely. There's just too much functionality to them for people to just dump them. Come back to this thread after 10 years to see if your prediction comes true.

True, there are some people resorting to so called burner phones but that would probably just make them more visible. People would be like "Why are they using these dumb phones? What are they trying to hide?".

I've seen a TV segment showing how these old phones are being repaired and shipped from Asia and Africa to UK. Most of those that buy them use them for criminal purposes.

Smartphones are here to stay. They will get even better in 10 years time...with more astounding features. Just like other innovations...there's no turning back once the world makes a huge step into the future.

I'm not sure that smartphones will ever die. They can only improve and expand their set of functions, because they are very useful for society. Every year they become more perfect and displace the old models.

Smart phones are going no where, not in the next 10 years at least. They have one or two more shots to bang.

As far as I know, there are already attempts to create some, (maybe they even exist already?) but they are not mainstream yet. I am talking about fully customizable/fully functioning linux phones. Not that limited android crap.

What I dream is basically a Rpi3+Iphone hybrid. A pocket PC with a screen and its own battery and relatively slim.

Something like this in that article:
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/10/purism-wants-make-truly-open-source-linux-phone

With a micro usb, hdmi out, micro sd, 4 cores, ddr3, and not limited on the software side.

Thats not gonna happen communication nowadays is one of the basic needs of the people even social media as well. Unlike before we use send snail mail to our love one's abroad but now instant messaging allows people to connect, I don't see any reason that would happen.

Not sure if this is just trolling especially since this is on bitcoin forum. I even store most of my coins on a smartphone wallet so I can't really imagine your scenario.

I strongly disagree with you. First of all, smartphones are an all-in-one phone, if you prefer a basic phone that only does basic things then go, no ones stopping you. What i'm getting at here is that, smartphones are 100× better than the old basic phones, and if you ask me in the future smartphones will constantly improve. It's just the way life is we all modernize and upgrade everyday. You cannot stop the worlds revolution, we are all constantly improving, our society is dynamic.

I will have to disagree with you because I dont see us going back to what we have left in the ages neither do I see us picking the situation of stress over comfort. Me personally, I cannot even remember the last time I visited the cafe or business centre because everything I want to is via my smart phone be it banking or, document, transfer or receive bitcoins etc. Technology will rather improve to make life more easy rather than going back to the time of hardship.

This is just your perception only or it can be your speculations too. I think there is no basis at all regarding about your thought in this matter.
Besides, if no one knows what will happen tomorrow how much more 10 years from now, who knows what will happen after 10 years. Smiley

Ten years? I do not even think that the smartphone will die. Smartphones are already very helpful to human life, smartphone is very helpful. And day by day a better smartphone keeps popping up, more comfortable to wear. As long as we use it well, I do not think the smartphone will die in ten years, but it will progress.

Learning the troll avoidance button :)
It depends consumers would likely compromise with a high end phone with end to end encryption that is basically as good as an Iphone or Android without the tracking features turned on.
But I guess dumb phones could make a comeback burner phones are a thing lol.
