Well, if you do business here its a common sense you would like to check the person beforehand. "This user is a newbie" huge text indeed reminds people about it but don't you think it might be a complete turnoff? I don't think admins here tracks reply rate of personal messages from newbies but I won't be surprised if the reply rate is very low due to this red, bold text. This is my main concern.

I remember a couple of people auctioned for the advertisement spaces here on the forum. Someone would create a username fairly similar to theymos and then email the auctioners that "they had won" the auction and to send their BTC to their address. Adding this will minimize the chance of getting scammed.

if i remember correctly, that is the main reason on why they added the warning message in newbie's PM.

I like it. In fact I welcome any changes that reduce the number of scammers or scams on here.

So I sent someone private message and I saw this message attached on the top:

"!!! WARNING: This user is a newbie. If you are expecting a message from a more veteran member, then this is an imposter !!!"

I don't know guys but this isn't welcoming and definitely someone who receive messages from newbies here might not take it seriously. Are we fighting with spammy accounts here? There are other ways to deal with it.

Let's come up with solution better than this Smiley

Thanks to the hundreds of newbie scam attempts before you.

Also, you might have noticed, your image is not working, but ours are. That is to discourage the newbie spam attempts with garbage images.

As soon as your activity crosses 15, you'll be able to get rid of these problems known as Newbie Restrictions.

I thought that the newbies restrictions would be lifted when the user reaches 30 activity, not 15. Or when a newbie is promocted to Jn member

Well this guy only made 3 posts in almost 2 years. At this rate he would not get out of Newbie for another 8 years. If he has nothing to say, should he really be forced to make empty posts? Maybe the wording should be less dramatic.

True - simply because I am not frequent here and since I know my logins there is no point for me to open new account.

I will simply try to get my comment/post counter up a bit and hopefully this message go away Smiley

nah.

I think this is the best situation.  I would agree with not moving it.

No one mentions the problem there once was with people typing usernames VERY close to others and trying to scam.  And majority were newbie accounts.  So this stops someone from taking a user name from selling or auction and trying to phish some info or btc out of people.  It is very nice.

If you're not an impostor then this message doesn't apply to you, so no its just fine like that. This is the best way to protect everyone from impostors short of preventing new accounts from posting in marketplace and PM'ing people.

Just participate a bit on the forum and it will go away.

The first time I saw it when I started posting and stopped lurking, I was like wtf on my first PM. Then it dawned on me that I could be hanging in the beginner forums and scamming people, so I think it's a necessary evil. Granted, the wording could be changed to be something less dramatic, but alas not my forum or decision. Smiley

It is necessary to stop the scammers that pose as another member and try to MITM publicly mentioned trades.  I for one am glad that this is there and it has definitely saved many people from losing their BTC.  Great safety tool.

It's a good way to make users aware of imposters who claim to represent reputed escrows/members of the forum. In my case, I just don't want the text to get quoted and be sent back to the newbie. It's tiring to keep editing the huge text and send it back to the person.
It would be better if that warning wasn't part of the text of the PM itself but was dynamic, something that is added to the page for posts by newbies, but not part of the PM.

If you saying that the warning should just be on the top of the PM page, then many users would see the message over and over again multiple times and they'd soon see it as part of a background. Also, the reason why the current system works is it immediately points out that the user is a newbie, instead of the warning being put out there and then the receiver having to check each sender to see if they were a newbie (which many people would forget to do sometime or another).
I was thinking that the warning could be in the same place it is now, just that when I click the quote button, that warning isn't part of the PM text that I quote.

Personally, I think that this is a good idea, but it might be an even better idea to add some sort of system that can detect attempts to impersonate people and block the name from being registered.

I think it's necessary, lots of newbies have scammed people. You have nothing to worry about if you're a good, honest member.

The warning is for the forums security. For the majority of people and the rules will not be changed for a single person complaining that it isn't welcoming.

Oh and for the record, I don't know about the previous bit you are the first person I saw complaining about this. Grin
