I think people gamble for different reasons. Some gamblers might find their hopes in gambling, others seek comfort in it, and some of them play for entertainment. It all depends on how we see the value of gambling in our lives. Some people stay because of the satisfaction and enjoyment that it provides while others stay because of a huge hope of hitting the jackpot. It is all because of the chances that gambling can offer.
I'd guess it's for self-satisfaction for me? I never really considered playing for money. Sure, I entertained the idea of me earning money if I won my bet, but never have I considered that it was a guaranteed event, more like it's just a nice addition to my self-satisfaction. I've always aimed for the win and the inclusion of money in the experience, it just adds more to the feeling that you get. I've always, and will always want to go for the win, not because of wanting money, but rather simply because I want to win.

I had an argument about a match that I was so sure that my team will win that match, I wanted us to bet some amount against each other but for the fear of losing, he was afraid and didn't bet with me. To prove that I was super confident about that game, I took the odds and stake some amount, and my team made me believe in them more when the result came out good.

It's really annoying and hurting emotionally and mentally when you lose it all and you don't have any way to get it back, especially when the money is not reserved for gambling rather it's for important things that could be used later. The problem is, you be hunted by the thoughts of when you needed to spend that money you lose, you don't have it anymore and that's when the time you gonna find it the hard way and probably gamble again to regain back what you have lost and the cycle goes on and on until you lose everything you have. The top reason is about making money while having fun, though some are taking this seriously and that's the time for them to get stress and become greedy. We all have different reason honestly, and personally I gamble to have fun and sometimes expecting some profit even if its not guaranteed. In general, most people start gambling for the first time because of the interest to win prize money.
and as time goes on gambling activities really trigger adrenaline to do it again and again, especially if you get a big win. at different times sometimes someone gambles just for emotional escape, not just for relaxation or just fun entertainment. adrenaline, self-satisfaction, escape, fun, entertainment, will change depending on one's mood and become a routine that keeps repeating itself.

My best win is during the Covid pandemic when lock-down was announced for the following day. There ways no money to stock my house with foodstuffs and other materials. That's good because at least, you know how to treat gambling well so you can be careful when playing gambling.
