Well that is not the right decision right now, as you can see the price of the bitcoin right now is rapidly increasing, while ethereum is now in the low value, focus with your bitcoin first
Exactly!why you should convert if it is have value and you'll having a great profit for investment? Some investors are looking in the future result of their investment because they think always the way it will survive, but in this flow of bitcoin price now converting bitcoin to ethereum is absolutely a bad decision.
Definitely, as if were not seeing how trendy btc values now. But it depends if you gonna use it for investing since some ICOs now were only acceplting ETH. But if it's not for that reason better keep it. Some were regretting now that they don't have any btc left since they convert it all in alts and they feel sorry now.

When investing, I’m a big fan of diversification of portfolios. I believe that both Ethereum and Bitcoin offer value, albeit in different ways.

Even though Ethereum is positioning itself to become a large platform, the fact that Bitcoin is so well known makes it the first place where people invest.

It's a big mistake to trade your Bitcoin for Ethereum right now. Bitcoin is going to get segwit, and then lightning network, and then sidechains, and Blockstream just got Satellites out there to broadcast the Bitcoin Blockchain... so much exciting stuff happening in Bitcoin right now. I think everyone should have their main amount of crypto portfolio in BTC, specially right now, it's key to have as much BTC as possible.

Ethereum still has to overcome huge problems which im not sure they will be able to, meanwhile Bitcoin is sailing smooth, the only problem it has is the segwit2x morons being annoying again with the blocksize increase scam in November but we will get around that.

Which problems do you think ethereum will be unable to overcome?

I wouldn't do that at any time, especially now that Bitcoin's price is on the rise and had a large positive increase on its price. In just a few days, it raised from $3000 to $4200~. Ethereum has been a lot more stable the last few weeks, while having a price increase, it wasn't as large as Bitcoin's. Regarding investment and earning potential, it's best to keep your BTC, it has already achieved a huge price increase and it might even increase more in the near future.

Keeping your bitcoin is wise choice and for those who wanted to go for ethereum investments, then go on nobody cares for that decision. So if you ask my side about it, well I think it's a worst decision ever converting a promising price into falling down demand of ethereum price right now this moment if you check those market sites. So that idea kepts on telling other members of the forum that bitcoin is a sustainable and reliable investments for now, then gokd suggestions deserves to be followed; future of bitcoin will be brighter and can help a lot of people around the world.

You really cannot compare the price of bitcoin and Ethereum, make sure to invest some in Ethereum but that does not mean that converting all of your bitcoin into Ethereum, because the price of bitcoin will keep on increasing and never expect the price of any other coin as near as the price of bitcoin. Why you want to convert your btc to ethernium? Are you dont see the stability and potentiality of bitcoin? I dont suggest to convert btc to eth now.Btc is now rising like rocket So you can wait untill btc touched $5000. And that day does not far away from today.

Well it really depends on you if you really wanted to convert your bitcoins to ethereum now. Or turn yourself from bitcoin to ethereum. It depends on what you believe that will get you directly to your success or to your ideal success. You are right the Ethereums platform became large and became trusted by many alternative coins. So many partnership of both coins(eth and other coins). If you do believe in eth then go for eth, but if you believe in bitcoin go for bitcoin.
What if the threadstarter believe in both, hence the question? I think the other question that you need to ask is how long do you intend to hold (short or long) after the conversion. I believe both can be for long term HODL anyway!

I had converted part of my BTC to ETH in order to invest in the ICO's and new ventures. Diversified my investments in different coins and hopefully, my new altcoins get some value and pay back a nice profit. In BTC and ETH, I think BTC is better and valuable, lots of Hype on ETH, cant trust it.
well we know that the value of ETH is also increasing as well as the the value of BTC .
ETH is now$300 and BTC$4300 , buying all coins as an asset is a good source of investment and will eventually be profitable
but right now the increasing value of BTC is having more than that of ETH , if we buy ETH now by using bitcoins we may land up in loss .
like if I buy some ETH now and see that the value of BTC had crossed $5000 and ETH is still in $350 or $300 then I would definitely end up in a loss.
so I suggest what for the appropriate time when the value becomes stable at the max and then buy some ETH .
you should keep records and observe the fluctuating value so hat you do not miss you window , or just wait till the ratio of increase in values of ETH and BTC become 1

If you want cash in your hands at the end, you should go with ethereum but if you want world wide trillion dollar asset in your hands at the end, you should go with bitcoin.

I probably wouldn't, or probably just put 20% of my bitcoin in there. The thing is that it's bitcoin that is faster at earning profits and that's what I'm after anyway.

I'm also a fan of diversification, beyond just crypto too.  Crypto will be no more than 5% of my net worth.  85% is in index funds and 5% in individual stocks.  Of the crypto portion, my split is:

30% BTC
30% Eth
40% Other alt coins.

I think that's even too heavily invest in altcoins.  I will be working on it to get closer to a 40/40/20 split.

Having a portfolio of diversified coins is good, but selecting them wisely is the best. In terms of converting btc to eth, At this time it is not so nice, because btc's value is increasing. Eth is a good alt coin, who has it's potential because it has grown and reached 300$, and if you are willing to exchange do it, but maybe not now, has a lot of is happening with btc in terms of it's value and in exchanging you can suffer loss.

I'm not too sure if you, in terms of both potential benefits, or you can divide it into two to invest
