I prefer to invest in bitcoin instead of ICO's and altcoins as bitcoin will get momentum before the whole market the whole market and every coin follow that momentum.

true bitcoin is very profitable to invest, but altcoin also benefits. they all give good benefits in my opinion
I think this is the best time to invest in altcoins because presently the price of all altcoins dropped below the initial price due to the law of demand and supply. The market condition is not good and you can buy huge volume with less money. It's is an advantage because anytime soon the market will recover.
Now that you choose BTC or ETH or BCH are good, they are two very good coins if you hold them for a long time, now the market is showing signs of recovery and the sale of coins will make you regret later.
For me its better to invest to all because all of them can gives yiu good profit. Investing in Bitcoin is really good because it is one of the most secured investment, while Altcoin choose the Ethereum to invest because it also can give enough profit, then invest in ICO but choose wisely because there are some ICO not worth it. All of them have risk so its depend to you if you take the risk if you want to get profit.

Before investing on ICOs project make a keen research about the ICO you are planning to invest. There are lots of good ICOs but there are also lots of scam ICOs, so we need a careful study on that before making any investments. 
in conditions and situations like now it is very difficult to suggest investing in crypto currencies or following ico because for now confidence and patience as capital in investing your belief in being able to choose
It is a wiser choice to invest in bitcoin or altcoins ,stay away from ICOs now because many of them tokens are gone ,dead due to one reason or the other ,I think coins are stronger than tokens and now that market is collapsed coins are so cheap that any one can easily buy loads of them especially altcoins , there are good altcoins one can invest in like EOS,tron, digibytes etc
investing in ico isn't just choosing ico which looks good, ico that looks good doesn't necessarily mean that ico won't scam, needs to do research first before choosing ico, need to examine some aspects of ico that want to be joined like the concept of ico, team developers who work behind the ico and there are still many aspects that must be examined first before participating in an ico.
Bitcoin is always the better option to invest, as it has the lowest risk as compared to the other coins.
Of course as market drop down prices of btc and altcoins are down so you can say it's time to invest but as market down and down make one thing in mind its always risky and such a condition more risky,but mostly people's are very positive and hopefully.
I think if you want to invest in ICO chose security token because i think it is more safe and it will boom in 2019 onwards compare to utility token. We can see that projects that are conducting ICO'S now are having a hard time collecting funds especially the utility token.
ICOs are usually high risk and high reward. The starting price of the coin is low and the price of the coin can possibly multiply. The high risk is the coin is a scam and they take all of your money and run. It is always safe to invest in ICOs, you just have to find the good ones. Right now I am invested in an ICO called EVOAI. If I were you, I would rather put my investment somewhere safe and almost certain to make gains. ICO may be a good investment but the risk is so high. I will not recommend investing in ICO if you are not diligent enough to read and ask and investigate. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano, Waves, and several more altcoins are always good investments. Despite a volatile market, they are always directed toward a bigger growth in the future.
I think now that you can invest in bitcoin or in the ICO project, both are also good investments, you can get a lot of benefits, because now the right time you can buy it is to see the prices of bitcoin and ethereum still cheap.
Don't ico, it's still very bad right now. for ico, maybe next year if the graph can increase again. now the most appropriate is altcoin like ripple or cardano.

Monero (XMR) is and will always be a good investment for long-term hodling. I think Monero (XMR) is the best privacy coin, and as of this writing, its price is $54 - very, very affordable for everyone to buy. 
Now all the coins have very affordable prices, but this's not a reason to buy them, as most of them are scam, don't forget about it! But anyway, if we talk about long term holding I'm sure that one day BTC is pumped, all top-1000 coins will be pumped as well, even those that are useles pieces of scam.
