This must be posted in the Altcoin discussion. Anyway, to answer your question, I think it is better to invest in Ethereum. It is the best altcoin for me. Ripple is good for short term investments only. If you want to play safe for your investment, choose a coin that is trusted and promising.
I'm supporting ETH camp, you will be better of with ETH, ripple is centralized so suddenly big guys who issued ripple may decide a fixed price for ripple
I think that you will sleep better while being on the ETH than on the RIPPLE, the one has a true utility and its rise is healthy, the other is to handle
If you plan to pull out in the short run with higher risk of profit or loss thou should consider Ripple but if your investment is for the long run then Ethereum should be in your portfolio. ETH is a sure investment with less risk than Ripple now but definitely with less return in the short run than XRP.
Why not invest in both?
I would choose Eth because it has so many uses and is by far more popular than XRP. So many projects wouldn't exist without Eth.
I think it would be better if you can invest on both alternative coins besides there is no problem if you will be holding both coins in fact having both of them can maximize the profit you can get just in case their value will both appreciate in the coming days. This two alt are both very promising during the last few months of 2017 and they are also both expected to have a much better or higher value this 2018 so we should really grab opportunities to invest now

the development of the token ripple is greatly improved but I still choose ethereum to invest because the price of ethereum is very stable and tends to increase.
I agree with your options, the ETH is more stable and tends to increase a very high price. 
Me support for ethereum more but ripple is a good platform. I just hate it is control by ripple lab. that's all
My pick is ethereum...Ripple is not bad as well but ethereum is something unique and have the more potential.I think ripple has already grown and may soon reach its potential hight...but ethereum i think has still a far more to go ahead in upcoming months and years
I have a feeling these two will battle it out for the 2nd spot behind granddaddy btc, in terms of market cap.

You will never know until you try. Try, test, check and see the result.
In trading, different "what if" questions can be answered only until we try what we think is good. ETH and Ripple have both positive speculation this year meaning expectation of much decent profit here is present. PUMP and DUMP will happened on the way so why not try one of your preferred plan and see what will be the result of it. If your plan will be success then that is now you called a winning strategy on which you can used on your future with only small modifications based on the coins involved.
No one knows what will happened so better have guts to face all the risks once you applied your strategy.
As many have suggested, ETH would be the best investment for long term. i myself have bought few ETH, i stay out of ripple! it's controlled by banks, don't let the banks win, stay out of centralized alts.

Ripple is centralized but if you want to take chance to invest on it while it was still not that expensive. But I won't buy XRP although it has replaced ETH on the coinmarketcap with it's number 2 place. I'll stay to Ethereum as I have always believed that this is one of the best alt coins ever. I won't depend on those banks as Ripple is doing that.

In my opinion ETH still remains the best choice if you are long term hodler as it pumps on regualar basis while pumping in XRP is temperorary and after that it will fall and profit is on short term basis.The ETH with much more potential tends to rise more in future and reach approximately $1500 by year end so its the best choice if compared with ripple.Choice is yours. while eth has rose 100usd in the past week and is being quite stable.

I would suggest go with ripple eth might end up at $3k or even $5k by end of this year but ripple on the other hand has a really high demand , banks are evening adopting it's technology and the most important news it is will be listed on gdax America's biggest exchanges and also on the biggest online wallet coinbase the price can easily reach $5 and will continue.
ETH of course, the ripple is a course clearly manipulate, too risk to venture there
