In the '90s, the heroin trade flourished in Russia, and many young people got hooked on this devastating drug. I think everyone knows how addictive it is. Do you know how those who didn't have the willpower to quit using themselves were treated? They took them to the first rehabilitation centers which looked more like prison barracks where they were handcuffed and took them off only when they were eating or going to the toilet.

That is why relatives can help to overcome any addiction, they just need to take the addicted person to a place where there is no Internet or gambling for a couple of months.

That's the problem, most of the gamblers who are addicted to much in gambling doesn't have a strong will of dedication on quitting, that's why they are stuck forever in the gambling realm. Even with a great push of their families and friends, since they are not willing to quit, no one could help them except themselves.

Therefore the conclusion of mine according to this problem over and over again is that they must first have self-realization, to accept what must change on themselves in order to grow, to solve a problem, you need to admit that there's one.

Self denial, even it's already broad that they are addicted, inside them they are not willing to admit it. The problem will soon to get more deeper, and just like what you are saying without that strong will nothing will happened.

They can't be changed by anyone aside from their own will and dedication, though it's always better to extend your patience in helping them to realize how engage they are and how it's reflecting to their everyday life.

Addictions is not easy to battle but with love and determinations, the power of self-will always win it all.

There are also many gambling addicts who manage to get out of their addiction when they intend to break it...

Surely many of us have played gambling to forget the time and others because of great curiosity, it's an example of a mild addiction but when we decide we have to stop then we definitely do it. but for heavy addicts it would be better if they go to a psychiatrist or rehabilitation center to treat their gambling addiction.
They must have a strong effort to get out of their addiction because it will not be easy for them, especially if they have a heavy gambling addiction. Yes, I have experience playing games to forget the time and others but fortunately, that is not a gambling game. After all, I think that is still a sign of becoming an addiction so no matter what, we must prevent it before the addiction makes us forget everything.

But if it only happened once I don't think it would be a problem, because some people will also stop immediately when they find themselves losing from gambling by spending all the funds they have. But if they come back the next day with the same misfortune and think of taking back what they have lost then of course, that is a sign of addiction which will definitely be hard to notice in the future.
If people are very strict with their own rules it is possible to happen once and of course it would not be a problem at all. The question is whether in general most people are able to do that? I guess no, to be honest I'm not really strict with my own rules, sometimes I also couldn't fully control my emotions while gambling and repeat that mistake again in the end Grin

I guess even chasing losses will lead you to addiction.
I didn't say it would not lead you to addiction, I guess. Chasing losses is still good as long you are not obsessed too much to get back all of the initial balances and know well when you have to stop with it.

Sometimes stealing money from wife/kids is not a sign of gambling addiction if it happened just once. It could be because he just wanted to chase his loss, to fix his mistake, because he bet more than he can afford. Problem gambler = yes, but addict = not necessarily true. It becomes a sign when it happened more than once and then becomes more frequent as the addiction progresses.
Addiction first starts with a suggestion then it grows into a habit in which if not controlled early could lead to addiction. No one actually plans on getting addicted to negative influence. Most times it's jobless men who goes the extra mile to steal from loved ones in other to gamble and since that is his only means of survival he would make it a habit which later grows into addiction

If you are constantly thinking about it then it could be a sign of addiction. Gambling addicts will find ways to gamble, even without money, I know some people who would even sell their phone, jewelry or even borrow money just to gamble. My aunt even had to sell her house to pay her gambling debts. Gambling addiction could bring you financial problem as well.

Financial problems are the most important sign that someone is starting to have a problem, or maybe even already has one.
If, someone is borrowing money or selling valuables in order to be able to gamble, the information is that that person already has a very big problem with gambling.
Few years ago I used to have financial problems because of gambling, but luckily I didn't get in to the addiction.
Now I am very careful because I know how close I was to that and how thin the line is.

Addiction is a scary thing to happens because most of them abused themselves just because no one is telling them to stop, especially if they are the one who is superior to the others. This is one of the biggest problems humans have. The only one who can help themselves is actually them when they realize their own mistake and try to work hard how they will gonna change their life forever without being excessive on certain things.

A very observant person or a friend will be able to know if his friend is having issues with gambling addiction. The constant trips to the casino, the borrowing of money getting worse and worse, gettings loans, selling stuff, and many others. Family and friends won't be able to help someone that addictive. That person in my opinion needs professional help at that point. It will be a painful process to take that addiction out but it should heal the person.

That's what I considered as chasing your loss, most gamblers would do what you mentioned earlier in order to get back their capital or even just for taking a little profit. Its normal and usually happen in gambling, the thing is some people don't know when they are supposed to stop chasing their loss and ended up draining all of the funds in their pocket.
I guess even chasing losses will lead you to addiction. Imagine, you just gamble what's suppose you can afford to lose money then sooner or later you deposit again to get back that but you ended up losing again but this time it was for other purposes like a necessity. So, you need to get it back again until you realize you have into more credits and you need to make ends meet but you still gamble to get it back.

Chasing losses isn't bad (but overall it's totally a bad thing) if this money you spent for gambling isn't on important things like savings for future purposes. There are people who does this and they just realize it when they got nothing to gamble on.

If a player is trying to win back no matter when it happens, it already indicates some kind of addiction. It is never necessary to chase after lost money because it makes a person lose control over himself. If a person does not control himself, then the likelihood that he will lose is much greater. There are three outcomes of gambling: winning, losing, and when a player stays with his money. Therefore, each outcome of the game is quite logical and should be taken for granted.

The most obvious sign of addiction is that the gambler will repeatedly chase defeats that have already been experienced. But if we only try once or
twice to catch up with our defeats it's still normal. It's better if we stop gambling immediately if we experience a loss until all the capital we have
runs out. So before playing gambling, it's a good idea to limit the amount of money we will use to play gambling, in addition to preventing large losses.
And by limiting the capital we will use to gamble, we can avoid addiction too.

I have friends and relatives that did that. They sold things that they own and then promised to buy it back because they're just in need. They give a different reason so that people would pity them and will have no second thought of buying those goods that they sell. But the main reason is that they're selling it because they've lose in gambling and they're thinking of gambling again to recover what has been lost to them.

I don't want to judge them I guess they are too much getting addicted once they won in gambling and psychologically they want to earn back their losses the reason why they sell all of their stuff. If they sell just to pay their debt on gambling I guess this is the last option they can make but they need to sacrifice those needs on their life to survive but if those items sold just to play another gambling this is not a good idea again always the house wins the game. Too bad if they sell just to gambling again its feel sad.

some gamblers got into gambling because of winning large sums during their first time. and then they wanna do it again thinking they could earn from gambling without working anymore like it's their source of income. got addicted after trying to get back the loss.  whether you tell them the house always wins, it's not their concern anymore because in their mind they won a big sum during their first try.

the lucky ones learned the lessons early and recover from addiction by simply stopping but the ones who go deeper hit rock bottom. sometimes homeless living under the las vegas sewers.

What you describe is really the end game of gambling addiction though. If you are so down that you are willing to sell your marriage ring or whatever, that's when it's literally game over completely. Those guys often have even more addictions that just gambling, probably combined with alcohol or drugs that make it hard to return to rational decision making anyway.

Gamblers don't realize they are addicted to gambling until it's worse which they've done unthinkable already like breaking the piggybank of his kid just so he could gamble again. But you as a gambler can also notice it to yourself before you get to the worse situation like selling valuables like jewelry so you could play again.

Is seeking a new strategy or thinking of betting while you are sleeping signs of addiction? If not, what are little signs that unfold you are becoming a gambling addict?

I have seen people fall into the gambling net many times. The scenario is almost always the same. It starts out as fun first, usually until the first big win. After the first big win, your appetite grows and you want to win more, so you raise your stakes and risk more. The moment someone gets into financial trouble, they already have one foot on the other side. When someone starts selling their stuff or borrowing money to gamble, that means gambling addiction.

People can easily get addicted to gambling but it can be difficult to stop the addiction because once people are addicted to gambling, their minds will think about gambling and want to play gambling.
They will have more passion when they win some money, including if they win big money.
Their luck can come to them occasionally, so they still play gambling because of wanting the next luck.
But many of them are forget that luck will not come easily in the next games.

Is seeking a new strategy or thinking of betting while you are sleeping signs of addiction? If not, what are little signs that unfold you are becoming a gambling addict?
There isn't any single sign or criteria but usually, person is addicted if he/she:
1. Spends more money in gambling than he can afford to.
2. Can't get fun from gambling, instead, he/she is getting nervous/anxious and agitated.
3. Person talks about gambling very often (It doesn't directly mean that he/she is addicted but usually, people talk about things that they are interested in and are captivated)
4. He/She prioritizes gambling more than necessary.
5. He gambles and his quality of life is declining.

Those are the main signs to my mind. If a person thinks about betting when there is a time of sleep, then sure he has very deep problems and it's not a typical addiction.
An absolutely correct observation.  But often a person himself is not yet aware of his addiction, and then such a diagnosis may well be recognized by his family and friends, with whom he lives or constantly communicates.  It is quite possible that the first to turn to the psychologist is his family and not himself.  In addition, close people, of course, are very annoyed by such a person's insanity for gambling and his obsession with sitting down to a computer or burrowing into a mobile phone all the time.
And here's another sign of addiction - irritability when distracted from this activity.
