We have 4 rx 470/480s with the Red Devil cooler in my wife's small farm and I have a Rx 480 Red Devil in one of our personal gaming PCs. I really like all of them, very good coolers and zero problems in the 8-12 months that we have owned them. They have a very nice hefty feel to them and are much better quality then any other Powercolor cooler I have had my hands on in the past ~7 years or so.

I have a red devil rx470 and only 1.

One fan is about to fail.

I cannot buy a new one from them (We have no stock) I have to do a full RMA.

Told me to check for 3rd party but never answered my about the spec of the fan.

Not impress at all.

their rma policy is bad.

as I've hard-modded my own PC's 1080 with liquid metal to remove the power limit restriction. The increase in performance there is massive on Pascal cards if you can provide good cooling (I've got a water chiller).
Whoa go on. This is the first I have heard of this. Can you provide more information?

I'd love to have a garage (or generally more space)... Currently I have two rigs in my attic (eaves). That's all I can stick in there before it becomes a sauna in the summer. Third rig is at a friend's place 20 miles away.

Also the thing is those nVidia cards (well the 1080's anyway) tend to very quickly hit their power limit if you overclock/overvolt, so your hashrate pickup is fairly limited. I know first hand, as I've hard-modded my own PC's 1080 with liquid metal to remove the power limit restriction. The increase in performance there is massive on Pascal cards if you can provide good cooling (I've got a water chiller).

But for mining, forget it. Get your efficiency the other way.

It's probably been answered before but why do you guys love to run at lower TDP? Every calculation I've ever run on any of my cards supports running @ 120%.
Think about it this way: will juicing up your GPU give you 20% more speed? no.
But lowering TDP by 20% might still allow you to run at stock speeds or often still better.
This massively increases your efficiency so you get more hash per watt.

I used to drive really fast no more.
I drive at 65-85 mph on the open highway

no 105-120 mph on the open highway.

The trill of putting the pedal to the metal is long gone for me.

I like to not beak gear. I like to not wait for ram's

If I max a  1080 ti to 725 or 740 sols   temps are higher fans are faster vs       cruise at 640 sols    temps are low fans are low.

I can garage mine at 48db using 8.8 amps  of 240 volts = 2112 watts sols of 6800 - my garage is attached  so silence has meaning for me.


I can garage mine at 55db using 10 amps  of 240 volts = 2400 watts  sols of 7200

I prefer the quieter mining with less heat.

and I rarely kill off gear. but mostly the noise factor. is the key.

I can 2x my setup whenever I want. as I have a 30 amp pdu.
Most of my info here is based on not taxing gear. I also have a good resales business here and on eBay and my gear does not break much when I sell it to buyers here or on eBay.

That's why I love buying Phils old gear.  Take good care of my future gear Phil! LOL

Electricity must be a lot cheaper for you than it is for me Smiley Here in the UK I pay 13.525p/kWh. This should work out to 0.00325p per watt per day. Running at ~190w max 126% TDP 505 sols it costs me around 62p a day, compared to ~113w 75% TDP 495 sols which costs around 37p a day. So 25p a day for another 10 sols? Not worth it for me. Never mind the temp and noise consideration as that doesn't matter to some people, but does to me for longevity etc.

So long as you do the maths and it works out for you then good luck Smiley
I pay ~$0.11 per kWh so looks like 8.35p/kWh? Yeah hell of a lot cheaper. Power bill is ~$900 per month.

That's why I built a dedicated section in my garage for this. You don't notice at all from the inside. I was planning for long term and future expansion.

I did this back in 2014 and it was all in my house and THAT SUCKED.

yeah  I never ran hard enough  long enough to know about damages to gear.


but heat and fan noise are not wanted where   I mine the cards  so I do 60 to 80 % tdp

mostly  70%


been playing with water block to keep the noise  down.

 I can now keep the attached garage under 48db

Rough numbers that I can remember for my 1080 TIs:
DGB-Skein @ 120%: 1050MHs -> $2.26 per day
DGB-Skein @ 80%:  ~800 something -> $1.90 per day

Take my MSI Gaming X 1070 8GB for example. At +120% TDP +110 core +800 mem it runs at 505 sols on EWBF at 66c. Reduce to 75% TDP, with same overclock it runs at 495 sols on EWBF at 58c. Small reduction in sols for big reduction in power draw and temps.

All cards are different to where there sweet spot is, but between 60-80% is usually where it will be. It seems below 60% hash rates usually start to fall fast, but playing around with the TDP while watching your wattmeter and hashrate you can make a decision on how much you think those extra few sols are worth compared to watts.

Thanks for your replies but this has never been the case for me. The outcome for me has always been more money at the end of the day @ 120% TDP vs anything else. Who cares if it's running "more efficiently" and uses a few more cents of electricity? I've run dozens of excel formulas for AMD and nVidia cards, mining solo, dual mining, etc. No matter what, at the end of the day I have earned more money in the end.
I'd be interested to see said spreadsheet.

his method is fine if he never sells the cards.

if he sells the cards they would tend to break since they ran at 120% for months on end.
he is most likely a 90-100 percent fan guy and does a lot of ram's
so the real break down is not whether he earns more  by spending the extra watts.


I never ran my gear long and hard to be able to answer these 3.

does he do more rma's
does he replace more fans
does he sell gear that breaks a lot

the 2 below  are the big reason's I don't do high tdp

does the extra heat
and the extra noise affect his quality of life.

since my setups in all 4 buildings have heat and or noise conditions high watt clocks are stupid for me
