My AR-15 ID's itself as a toaster. Want breakfast?
fyi:  I have bought strix video cards.

They are good quality;  but the cooler design is pure garbage.  not as efficient as it should be, and is poorly mounted and is easily disturbed requiring a re-paste if you bump it wrong.  Literally only the 4 sprung points and one other are all that attaches the weight of the cooler and the massive shroud to the board/die.

So are you guys expecting a free bitcoin gold lunch just like it happened earlier this year with bitcoin cash? I got really lucky on that one... Did the whole core wallet switcharoo and sold the BCH at close to $1000... They never went back to that level.

who knows  I have some  btc waiting

From the little that I've read bitcoin gold does not have any replay protection in place so please be careful with this one.  I'm just not looking forward to creating a new wallet and transferring all my bitcoins there with at least 10 confirmations before spending any bitcoin gold.

I suspect the power draw depends on where you set the card.

I like my Aorus - but they ARE huge, need a lot of spacing.
VERY good cooling though lets them boost quite high.

I have no opinion on the Strix having zero experience with them to date.

Running a few strix oc
Also pretty large, and have them at approximately 4cm spacing which can make them run pretty warm.
From what I’ve read they will perform at pretty similar levels, so I’d go with whichever is cheaper or what you think will resell better if that’s your plan.

Thanks for the replies. I went with 2 * Strix as they were $40 cheaper per unit. Also picked up a MSI Duke 1080ti.

I plan on running;

2 * Strix in gaming PC (850WPSU) which will be SLI when gaming and mining at all other times.
4 * 1080ti (3 EVGA Armour / 1 MSI Duke) + 1 * 1070 in the mining rig off 1000W PSU.

I'm a little concerned about my power draw for the mining rig, even at 70% TDP on all cards. If there's issues, I will just drop the 1070 to the second hand market.
It should be 175W per 1080ti and 100W for the 1070 (800W) so going to be close. Using a USB stick with Nvoc (1st time for me - will set up when cards arrive)
strix uses between 180-200w depending from algo on 70% tdp but they run really cold,50-60c on 50% fans depending from algo at 27c room temp.I run them 4 in a rig with evga g3 1000w

Why not just move the 1070 to the 850w psu?  Then you'll have plenty of power at 70 TDP for all cards.

Yes this is an option IF spacing allows. I have an ASUS PRIME Z270-AR that they are going into and the spacing between the three full-size PCIE is 3-2

I have finally built my rig frame. Sold 80 ZEN and I need to buy 3 * 1080ti tonight before a 20% ebay special ends.

Strix or Aorus? Aorus seems to have lower power draw?

oh I understand, thanks for the info BogdanCo.  makes a lot of sense.  im going to have to research hbcc more to understand it

As far as I see, for every Vega installed you need to increase the virtual memory with 8gb. I bought a bigger SSD (240gb) to test if with more virtual memory I can activate on all Vega's the HBCC...

7 vega's x 8gb = 56gb

why not try

7 vega's x 16.1 gb =  112.7gb  or round up to 114gb vm

I'm going to try it since I see now in AB vm used is at ~57 Gb,  but for the moment it seems I can't boot the rig with the mobo's IGPU disabled. I want to use AB for undervolting/overclocking and with IGPU enabled AB is not working properly.

Just want to let you guys know that I managed to start my 7x Vega64 rig only with the Delta connected as PSU. So the trick is to power up the Delta from the switch and then remove from the Mobo and plug in again the 4 pin CPU cable. And the rig is starting...

Thanks Phil for the 5% slush code, it working, i got a 7$ discount, so here is half back to you https://blockexplorer.com/tx/a5827330c1fce854b641c7110e6f2c5ac8c0d2aa964420b8864045f1d24e434e

You have 7 X Vega stable and hashing properly?

If so, you're the first I've heard of as most people tried and then went back to only 3 card setups.

We'd love to hear some more details Smiley

Well I have 7 Vega64, but only 4 are hashing at full speed with HBCC activated, for the rest of 3 I can activate the HBCC but it's not working. Here is the link from an earlier post with my setup: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.23061997

@fr4nkthetank: I have 8 Gb Ram installed and vitual memory 64Gb, the rig is stable since 1 day and a half.

Id love to hear about
-how much ram you have installed, and virtual memory setup
-how much hashrate total

I dont think with 7 vega you can get max hashrate per GPU, although I personally havent tried.
