It's probably been answered before but why do you guys love to run at lower TDP? Every calculation I've ever run on any of my cards supports running @ 120%.

I have a Palit Dual 1060 6gb, minimum it will go down to is ~70%, I run it at 75%. Still decent on equihash at that level, around 300 sols. Runs around 68c but its the top card in an SLI configuration in a case. Not sure on power draw as I just have a wattmeter on the plug running both of my rigs.

I also have a Gigabyte 1060 ITX 3gb, this one drops lower, I think to around 60%. I run it at 75% for around 275 sols, 58c as the bottom card in the same case as above.

I have one of those Zotac 1060 Mini 3gb due to arrive tomorrow too, I expect it to run louder and hotter than the Gigabyte ITX, but it was cheaper and 5 year warranty vs 3 years so will see how I get on with it.

Here in the UK I can get 3gb 1060s for £180, compared to 6gb for £230, so I think the 3gb is the better choice for me. Sure the 3gb is not as good for eth but its only 25 sols less on Equihash.

I had a zotac  mini  1060 I think

I had one 1060  6gb  and msi afterburner  would not go under 80%.

So I never purchased any 1060gb's

Let me look.

this is the only 1060 6gb I ever owned  it would not set under 80% tdp on msi afterburner

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IA9FEOO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I considered that a defect and returned it on May 4th.

I never tried any after that  as it got shitty sols per watts.

Maybe some else knows better.

I see your point if you ordered the 8 card board like I did.  you could alternate it  with 1070's and have no power issues.

BTW  they did not ship it out they are late they promise to ship it in 1 more day.

We lost oh well.

Back to mining.  I want that 8 card board. That phil has ordered. I will use 1060's or 1070's

Does anyone know how low the tdp is on these cards

I know most are 120 watts  but some 1060 only drop to 80%

I want to lower the cards to 60%.  Does anyone have a 1060  that sets to 50 or 60 %  and uses 60 to 75 watts  a 6gb model would be best.

Yeah well as said, mem clock is now already set 75Mhz lower than the highest card, same with the core. Voltage is set 75mV higher as well... And Temp target is 5C lower than the rest. Everything combined. Btw this rig mined Monero for 60 days non stop before I updated to blockchain drivers and switched to mining ETH. Unreal.

Now the money is free, and so the people will be
Personally I am starting to think one of my RX570's could be starting to go bad. I'm mining ETH+LBRY with that rig and that one card is crashing the miner. Usually it'll mine for a few hours but it always that GPU that'll cause the crash. I've reduced core clock, memory clock, increased voltage, lowered temp target by 5C but still, Claymore will go down at some point, stating GPU2 crashes in OpenCL or whatever. I've now reduced this GPU's intensity and see if it still happens. If it does, I'll replace the riser. Don't know what else to do.
In my experience this usually means too high clocks or too much heat.

yeah reduce the memory clock or change the memory timings.  thats most probably what is causing the crashes.  OR, which may probably be the case, is that voltage drops too low and freezes the rig when claymore switches dev fee, etc for some reason.  so in that case you need to change the voltage in the bios of the GPU to something else, like if its 65288 for the highest state, put it 65286, etc.  Or if that doesnt work try a fixed voltage, like 887 or something.  it really depends on what you did initially with the GPU's bios I guess.  just spend a bit of time on the rigs with trial and error.

for the question about the wife just make sure the rig looks sexy Smiley

With RMAs for GPUs I generally expect to be without a card for 4 weeks, anything less is a bonus in my experience! Hope you get the card back soon.

So I had a gigabyte 1070 card go bad on me and I started the RMA process 3 weeks ago.  The process itself was painless requesting an RMA from them and all they needed was the serial number and never asked for the receipt.  Unfortunately they received the card 2 weeks ago and they've pretty much just sat on it since then and the only update in my ticket is that they received the card and they are repairing the card.  So they make it sound like they repair the card that you send them and then send it back to you. I didn't make any markings on the card so I won't know if I get the exact same card back but the process has me out one 1070 card for over three weeks already.  Still not as bad as shipping something back to Bitmain but annoying nonetheless.  I wished they would just send me a refurbished one or something.

for nvidia, just run nicehash miner V2.  but fastest equihash miner is dstm now, not ewbf.  optimize your power with afterburner and just reduce your power limit, and overclock core and memory.

Thanks frank and Phil, will check out dstm and stick to equihash.

Any tips on how to tweak levels in Afterburner? I've been running 60% PL with +100 core and +500 mem on 1060s, +800 mem on 1070. My MSI Gaming X 1070 is a beast for memory OC, I bought it on release so it has the good Samsung memory.

Obviously the eth algos love the memory speed but is it needed for equihash?

Also my Palit Dual 1060 6GB doesn't like to stick to its PL setting in Afterburner. The slider is at 60% but the graph shows it running around 80% and therefore runs a bit warm near 70c... not sure whats going off there maybe there is some interference with the Gigabyte Mini 1060 3GB as its on the same board but with 80% PL, will have to investigate further.

Thinking about building a new rig on one of those Onda motherboards and keeping it in the living room as heating over winter, not sure how I'm going to get the wifes buy in on that though!

I have a question regarding Nicehash and algo switching if anyone has any thoughts on the matter.

I'm quite a novice miner and just started running NH on my wife and I's gaming rigs a few months ago, and since I had a spare PCI slot added a 1060 3gb to our 1070 and 1060 6gb. I run Nicehash Legacy which has plenty of different algos which it switches between based on profitability, however I have a feeling I might be able to run the cards with less power draw if I just optimised for EWBF miner, rather than is sometimes swapping to dualmining ETH + something and X11, etc.

I like getting paid in BTC so would like to stick to Nicehash, so should I just unselect all the other miners and optimise for EWBF, or is there something else you would do in my situation, if you wanted to be paid in BTC?

Thanks for the thread btw Phil, really enjoyed lurking over the past few months Smiley

I run  no gpus with nicehash software  I run a few really good cpus with the newest 2.0.1 for nvidia  but I run no gpus.

I use ewbf 3.3  with smos  on 12 1080ti's
I use ewbf 3.4   with windows 10  on 3 1080ti's this rig has the ryzen 1800x I run nicehash 2.0.1  I make 80 cents a day for 40 watts extra  which nets to 80 cents - 12 cents = 68 cents  and this rig has the best hashrates  for all of my 1080tis

My AR-15 ID's itself as a toaster. Want breakfast?
Yeah.  I am big on EVGA flat-out.

Ever since the 700 series cards, the quality went up considerably...

My current gaming card (that mines the rest of the time) is an EVGA 1070 FTW DT3;  The cooler is massive... its 2.1 bays wide pretty much.  if you cram it next to another card it throttles pretty fast.... but oah man... I get way better cooling and efficiency out of every one of my EVGA cards compared to my ASUS or other branded ones.  My 960 generation cards are a prime example.  Been very happy with the performance of this card all around.

fyi:  I have bought strix video cards.

They are good quality;  but the cooler design is pure garbage.  not as efficient as it should be, and is poorly mounted and is easily disturbed requiring a re-paste if you bump it wrong.  Literally only the 4 sprung points and one other are all that attaches the weight of the cooler and the massive shroud to the board/die.

i am not big with strix  I have had a lot of them.

I am liking  these  a lot
