AFAIK, if your transaction is more than 0.01 and old enough, it will be confirmed soon even without a fee.
-ranochigo

If your transaction size is smaller than 1,000 bytes, all outputs are 0.01 BTC or larger, the transaction is of high-priority (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees#Technical_info) and all your inputs are confirmed, the transaction should go through pretty soon even without a fee.

From my own personal experience, slightly more than half of them get included within the next 3 blocks and almost all of them get included within the next 6 blocks.

Did they change this? I thought it was 10 KB or below before. I've never had an issue even with a lot of inputs, so long as the output was high enough but I'm not sure if they were low or high priority transactions.

The normal fees range is between the 0.0001-0.0005 area "0.0001 does just fine for regular transaction". If you choose some lower fees you would need to wait more "up to days".

Just a reminder, the min fee should be 0.0001 per KB.
So, for example, if your transaction size is larger than 3KB, you should put 0.0004 fee.

So can someone break this down for me?

Whats the minimum to not wait so long. 0.01?

For the fee? 0.0001 BTC. The 0.01 BTC note was made for sending a minimum of that much out (as then you don't need ANY fee and it will still go through without issues).
It would be slower than those who have fees isn't it? If you want it to confirm within 1-3 blocks, use 0.0001 as transaction fees.

I suggest 0.0001BTC for small payments.

He didn't include a fee and it didn't qualify as a priority transaction, it's never going to get in a block.  Accepting crap like that leaves you open to all sorts of problems if you're running a pool (re: horsestablebattery).

Leaving the client open will rebroadcast it every x minutes (random(30) maybe?).  If you could see the IP information I'd guess a handful or less of the nodes relayed it, and it'd be extremely unlikely that any of those are actually mining.

You can send it for free if it's a high priority transaction -- that's when you might have to wait some hours.  Sending a transaction that isn't priority without a proper fee only gets confirmed if you're mining blocks yourself to include it (see deepbit payments).

ed: back when I used to do a lot of bitcoin transfers, I'd use a fee of .00011

I had a payment stuck for two days once but I forgot to add a fee. Lesson learned.

Hmm... so the transaction is yet to get confirmed, even after close to 100 hours (more than 4 days). I was told that one of the advantages with Bitcoin was that it could be used for micro-transactions. Seems like that is not the case.
There's alot of transaction volume, most pools would give those who pays fees priority. Also, he transferred 0.0006982 bitcoins which is a dust transaction, most pool would not confirm it.

It can be. That doesn't mean you don't have to add a fee though. A 5 cent fee on a 30 cent transaction is still much better than PayPal (which wants 30 cents PLUS a variable fee on top of that). If he added a proper fee, it would have been confirmed long ago.

Huh Huh My transaction has been stuck for 2 hours and not confirmed and i would really like to send more btc to something else but i cant because blockchain.info has to have no unconfirmed payments to send more Sad
Transaction: https://blockchain.info/tx/eb96fa05f6f1d803d0c9950347dba0c2794770c3510c7304e087fd3c0b49568b

Next time you need to increase the fee or send 0.01 BTC or more. No fee + low sending amount = long confirmation (if it ever does). You need one or the other: high amount or decent fee.

All paid signature campaigns should be banned.
Whats worse is if you are betting .1 each time, and notice you have bet 1 hr later lol. And it comes in way later then expect at luckybit.
Send your bet with a fee larger than the minimum fee.

I can still see the details of the tx with the blockchain.info link.  Huh
When I looked it was gone, now it is back.  So, that means it was retransmitted.  Must... wait... longer...

The receiver has the ability to re-transmit the transaction.  If they are doing so, then you'll have to try and get your new transaction transmitted after the old one disappears from the memory of most peers, but before the receiver re-transmits it. (or you could just continue to wait and hope that your old transaction will confirm eventually).
