Nothing I love learning, but about the things that I value. There are other people to learn about the things that do not interest me

If you don't value your bitcoins, then why the rant when they were stolen from you?

That was the last bit that I had I ordered from coinbase 7 or 8 days ago (my first time buying from an institution) and over that time period. I decided that i dont value bitcoin.

It cant work, and doesn't have the ability to enable real change. So it is of no use to me.

That is my opinion for now.

It will take a major innovation to change that situation, I will watch and go back to working on the liberty campaign, more than likely supporting Rand Paul in his presidential run. Though I dont believe that has much promise either I dont think that the ballot box is capable of creating real change. As we get closer to the collapse of the global financial system I may get back involved just to help people have an alternative to state issued fiat.

Ya it not the BTC that I care about it is the 182 USD that I would have got selling it.

sorry to here about this sublime when it rains it pours sometimes

Smiley Thanks bro, but things are looking up.

It usually does. When I am down I just remind myself things come together, they always do. Stressing about crap will just kill you sooner.

Oh all i need to do is go get a second computer? Is that all? Get real.

I know i am being a bit of a dick here, but every time I see someone getting robbed it is their fault. There is nothing wrong with the system no changes need to be implemented there is nothing to fix because the problem isnt the way that it works but my ignorance or my behavior.

What do you have against learning? It's one of the greatest joys in life. It enables you to do shit.

If you go on demanding that the world change to suit your current level of understanding or lack thereof, it's going to be pure butthurt from here on out.

I am a master auto tech. It is like me saying oh your car is messed up and it is your fault you were running an inefficient stoichiometric ratio and now your values are burnt and your catalyst system is destroyed. You should of checked that BIG MISTAKE!

The nature of analogies makes it difficult to say whether or not one is valid while another is not. So without discounting the validity of your own analogy, allow me to provide you with another automotive analogy.

Say someone brings you a car with an engine that is completely fucked; bearings are spun, rods are thrown, head gasket is blown, etc. (They had to tow this car in.) You ask them, "when is the last time you had the oil changed?" They give you a confused look and say, "I don't know what that means."

My point is, while it may not be your fault that your coins got stolen, (you could say it was the thief's fault, but there will be thieves as long as there is anything of value to steal) you are the only one who could've prevented it. Blockchain.info provides several methods to secure your account (even ones to combat keyloggers), and while it's true they could've walked you through their use and purpose, in the end it's up to you to properly utilize them.

Now if you're saying you did use said methods to secure your account, and they all failed or proceed ineffective, this should be brought to the attention of Blockchain.info and the bitcoin community so that they can be rectified or improved upon.

Right if you want to have a car that runs you have to change the oil periodically, but if you had the option of owning a car that never had to have the oil changed with no additional cost then no one would own a car requiring oil changes you are asking me to value a car that has to have the oil changed when there are cars out there that dont

I am a master auto tech. It is like me saying oh your car is messed up and it is your fault you were running an inefficient stoichiometric ratio and now your values are burnt and your catalyst system is destroyed. You should of checked that BIG MISTAKE!

People pay, usually large amounts of money, for "master auto techs" to diagnose and fix their vehicles. People also have to trust that the "master auto tech" is competent and isn't ripping them off. Typically though, people are getting ripped off. I do all (most, I don't have certain tools) of my own work on my vehicles, so I know all about the price difference between fixing it yourself and having a shop fix it.

Bitcoin doesn't really have the equivalent of "master auto techs" yet (well... I don't know of anyone who will come to your home and set up a secure wallet for you). So, you must learn to do it yourself or face the consequences.

Now, If you want to pay me $100 an hour (plus traveling expenses), I'll secure your wallets for you. I don't consider myself a "master wallet tech", but I've been securing my own wallet for over two years now. You are going to have to trust that I won't rip you off though. (Paying me $100 an hour to secure your wallet is a rip off because it's really quite easy to do. I'm also going to drag it out over several hours, when it should only take 10 minutes or so. Plus I'm going to have to sell you "specialized" hardware at a 100% mark up.)

See... Bitcoin is a decentralized money system. Its up to the users to protect themselves. You can rant and rage against that fact as much as you want, but that doesn't change anything. Some day in the future we might have services which will protect users who can't protect themselves, but you can be certain that it will cost money.

You don't need to alter your behavior one bit, but you won't secure your bitcoins with that attitude. You alter your behavior every day in order to function in society, do you whine about that too? Do you whine about stop signs slowing you down when you are driving somewhere? Do you whine about needing to put gas in your car so that you don't run out of fuel. Do you whine about having to pay taxes so you don't get locked up in prison? Do you whine about needing to prepare food so that you don't stave to death?

If you want secure bitcoins, you have to take the proper steps.

If you want to learn how to secure your wallets, I will teach you how for free. But you are going to have to purchase a cheap netbook, because that is the method I use (Armory). I use it because I consider it the most convenient and secure method, even though it has the added cost of an air gapped computer. If you are going to whine about having to spend money to protect your assets, then you are hopeless.

There are other ways to secure your wallets which do not have the added cost of an air gapped computer (offline paper wallets), but I have not familiarized myself with them, so I can't teach you for free.

The auto shop statement is not true most people are not getting ripped off at all you are not taking into account the enormous over head of providing a service center and complying with government regulations or the cost of having on  demand service they have to pay the techs to show up even if there are no cars to work on , but that is neither here nor there just a pet peeve of mine.

It is not my job to make it safe if bitcoin wants the participation of people it has to offer a better alternative. It has to be a chain saw and not a hand saw.

Like you should lock your car when leave it to go for shopping you should also secure your wallet. You're used to having to lock your car and not complain that you have to "accommodate the system" or are you leaving the windows open and expecting the car to think for you?
Start a new wallet on a different and secure computer and have 2FA enabled (Google authenticator if you have a smartphone, a Yubikey or via SMS codes). You haven't mentioned it anywhere so I am assuming you weren't using it. Big mistake, especially when you are using an insecure, malware-riddled machine for your financial-related stuff.
Ya like I said it is my fault
Fucking tech guy
I have been buying and selling bitcoin for a year now I still have no idea what a Yubikey is and it took me about 8 months before I knew what was meant by 2FA I love how you guys run around saying that shit it means nothing!

Do you see my point with the tech community it is always you need to alter your behavior not that we have made something that is unacceptable, you are the unacceptable one.

Altering one's own behaviour or way of thinking is necessary in all fields, it's part of the learning process. No one seems to complain (too much) when they are learning to drive a vehicle with a manual transmission and are having problems with driving smoothly. They have to . People who move abroad are not surprised if they have to learn the foreign language if they want to have more opportunities.

You can spend some time to learn about the *basics* of IT security and about keeping your bitcoin money secure or you can keep getting hacked.

You don't have to use a Yubikey — I myself am not using one. You can use your phone and receive SMS messages as an additional measure of authentication while logging in. If for some reason your number/network/country doesn't work with blockchain.info, use google authenticator (your phone must be a smartphone for that though).

The problem with your line of reasoning is the bold statements... No one has to use bitcoin they have options. If you want to drive a manual car you have to go and practice but they have options too they can drive an automatic it is a matter of preference. For bitcoin to work it has to be better than what is already in place. I can cut down a tree with a hand saw but why would I if I have access to a chain saw? PP lets me send money any where in the world for free and offers protection and liquidity between currencies. Paypal is a chain saw so why would I choose to use the hand saw of bitcoin? You want me to bend over backward to use bitcoin but I have better options so I will just opt out.

Blockchain.info is the standard bearer of bitcoin. I have never been prompted to add another line of defense to secure my wallet. Honestly I just use blockchain as a checking account and almost never store coins there. It is not worth my time to worry about hackers to make bitcoin safe that is not my job. It is a service that I can just choose not to use.

Like I dont care that I got hacked because the service providers that I chose to use value my participation and protect me . They accommodate my behavior.

You think that I am blessed with bitcoins presence when in actuality it is me that graces bitcoin with my participation. It is people that matter. Bitcoin doesnt magically produce worth it has worth because PEOPLE value it and if the service that bitcoin provides is a hand saw and they have access to a chain saw they will choose not to value it.

I am curious about the security on your blockchain.info wallet, mainly because I myself have one.

You say you had a strong password, but how strong. How many digits? Upper and lowercase letters? Numbers and symbols?

Do you have 2 step-authentication? If so what kind? SMS, Yubi, email, or GAuth?

Do you have a secondary password?

Do you have an email on your wallet? If so, did you get an email concerning the login attempt?

Do you have logging enabled? If so, does it list any events?

I'm going to agree here. Like I said earlier, it's not your fault people steal. You did offer the community a good service and unfortunately the inevitable happened and you were hit for enough to set you off the edge. If nothing else just learn from what happened and try to avoid these situations in the future. Not like anything I am saying you don't know already...

How else can a key logger gain access without having you download something? Maybe the porn is related to this. Prob a good idea to hold back on your urges.

It could be java. You only need to open a page to get infected.

I remember clicking on one sketch link in this forum of course. I am sure it is buried in my history somewhere. I will try and track it down.

I really dont do that but I remember thinking it looked a bit sketch

Just picking at points here, I agree with your sediment, but:

Quote
PP doesn't let me send if it is not from my IP address

PayPal does. I've accidentally used Paypal while using a VPN in a totally different country and made payments fine, without any additional hoops to jump through. The difference is that merchants take on the cost of chargebacks, whereas in Bitcoin the user takes the losses.

Fluke?

If I go from here to Raleigh and try and send it always asks for additional information or as you nerds like to say it ask me for 2FA

Are you fucking out of your mind? My god I need 2 computers and to stop looking a porn. I am to blame I am sure of it. Nothing needs to change hear.. nothing to see here folks keep it moving.

I didn't mean to offend you but to answer your question, No I am not out of my mind. I don't think it's a bad thing to not look at porn online if you can't keep to one site you know is safe and legit. The issue with porn online is people will good something and just go crazy clicking links trying to rub one off. Be smart about it if you have money turning up missing.

For the record I don't think it's your fault some asshat feels the need to steal. The worst part about it is, the thief could probably earn more with his/her computer knowledge than the amount of bitcoins they stole.

No offense bro I am just a dick Smiley
