Interesting discussions from cygan and mv1986, I'm now beginning to see a side to Bundesliga I didn't quite see (perhaps because I miss insights from local!). 15th is bd enough for all three teams, huh. Ole, Bo, Thomas.

Bookies haven't published odds yet, too early in season but I expect we'll see flutterings come end September...

- Eintracht Frankfurt (H) (important Derby)
- Werder Bremen (A)
- Stuttgart (H)
- Augsburg (A)

These are all games, where Mainz can expect at least a draw and overally bad results in these games could indeed start a coach discussion for Bo Svenson.
If Mainz really hits a bad streak, the only question might be if another team will be faster.  Cheesy Cheesy

That's what I had my eye on. Now don't get me wrong, I don't wish bad things for any team Least of all Mainz -- I'm a Klopp acolyte so the link is natural and Bo actually outperforms him and Tuchel points wise, so it's cruel to do this exercise but I only made these considerations because of kicktipp's bonus question on managerial sacking ha ha

If anyone's capable of long bad streaks, it's Mainz.

I went for Werder Bremen to have a quick trainer discussion as well and as you guys brought up Mainz, I think we will have a first important showdown between two of the candidates on matchday 3 when Bremen faces Mainz. Since Freiburg played so well in their first game against Hoffenheim, I don't think that Bremen will win against them on matchday 2. Maybe the game ends in a draw and then afterwards Bremen has a home game against Mainz. If Bremen does not win the game or even lose it, I am quite sure that Ole Werner is already on the brink of getting sacked. I am not that convinced that teams like Bochum or Heidenheim will have a quick discussion because they probably have realistic expectations as well. That could be different for Mainz and Bremen. Their goal isn't becoming 15th at the end of the season.

i have a different opinion. OW fits from the mentality and from the whole being 100% to werder and the whole region and in addition the coach as well as also the club responsible persons has also a very good wire to each other. i think rather (and so i have also predicted) that vfl bochum will be the first club which will sack the coach. last season the club has sacked Thomas Reis after the 6th matchday and there they also had the same season goal as this year, to occupy at least the saving 15th place.

I am counting on another bad streak... 5L 1D in last 6 games, I suspect 4 more bad games and Bo is in real danger, especially as they should be expected to win a couple of the next few.
Sure, even seemingly "safe" coaches can have a bad streak and we don't know what will happen if Mainz really struggles to score points.
So far, Mainz will face in the next matches:

- Eintracht Frankfurt (H) (important Derby)
- Werder Bremen (A)
- Stuttgart (H)
- Augsburg (A)

These are all games, where Mainz can expect at least a draw and overally bad results in these games could indeed start a coach discussion for Bo Svenson.

BVB look really shaky, but I put Mainz as the first choice to get their manager sacked in the bonus question-- the result helps my case!
Not sure of Mainz here because Bundesliga has a few teams where changing a coach isn't done very often.
Like Freiburg (Christian Streich, since 2012), Union (Urs Fischer, since 2018), and Heidenheim (Frank Schmidt, who achieved 1st league, coach at Heidenheim since 2007).
I would consider Mainz to be close to that group as well and their current coach, Bo Svensson, has been a Mainz player for a very long time.
For him to get sacked, Mainz really needs to have a bad season.
But we never know, of course.  Smiley

You have a good point there and I perhaps am all too unfamiliar with how German clubs view patience but after Bayern's unexpected sacking, I'm leaning towards other clubs also losing patience with stalwarts, particularly Mainz, who were probably really happy with Bo after running them close to Europe... but I remember, they lost almost every important game near the end right after beating Bayern and then spoiled the party for BVB.

It's guesswork, of course Wink

Union Berlin is always a big surprise. I'm not sure if they can keep their impressive result from last round, especially when playing Champions Leage in addition.
Union is usually very strong at home, while lacking a bit at away games.

yeah, they are stronger at home, and lack more points away from home, but last season was indeed very good for them, and this could be as well, they are just stronger than last season
expected from Augsburg to hold after being 4:3 up, but M'Gladbach scored in overtime and took a point there, making my round worst than I hoped to see it, but overall not unhappy with a start

Wooow, great round from Sojourner (buwaytress) and lots of points collected. It's quite an impressive result, especially considering that in our local board prediction topic, the best result from this round was 18 points.

Pure beginner's luck. I don't think I've ever got the correct outcome in every single game on a match day either, the draw and Freiburg win seemed logical but you never know. Let's hope I haven't run myself into the ground on this performance!
Well, let's see.  Cheesy
Bundesliga is hard to predict and I'm sure we can be in for surprises. 23 points is a very nice start.  Smiley

Union Berlin was strong, but I doubt that their efficiency will be the same in many games. Turning 6 shots on target into 4 goals doesn't happen everyday. Wink

Wooow, great round from Sojourner (buwaytress) and lots of points collected. It's quite an impressive result, especially considering that in our local board prediction topic, the best result from this round was 18 points.

So far, season is starting well for Bayern and Dortmund almost screwed it again. Next round we'll see a clearer tendency where the teams are this season. Leverkusen could be in the mix to compete against Bayern.

For relegation, many teams are at risk this season, especially Heidenheim, Bochum, Darmstadt, Augsburg (and maybe Bremen as well, sorry cygan  Cheesy)
Biggest surprise compared to last season might be Stuttgart. They are playing well and Guirassy is a very good scorer. Of course, Bochum is an easy opponent but Stuttgart is a team to watch in my opinion.

The Stuttgart - Bochum result is really hard to put into perspective yet. But it was a deserved win as they controlled the game and never allowed Bochum to get back into it. 9 to 1 shots on target also speaks volumes.

But as you said, Stuttgart might be a team to watch and the good thing is that they are now facing a disillusioned RB Leipzig team after their first loss against Leverkusen. If Stuttgart can be successful in that game away against Leipzig, we have two unexpected events at the same time. Leipzig would have the perfect failed start into the Bundesliga and Stuttgart would be in the limelight for the time being.

Union Berlin was strong, but I doubt that their efficiency will be the same in many games. Turning 6 shots on target into 4 goals doesn't happen everyday. Wink

He was just very lucky. I'm sure that he will be at the last position at the end of the season which is the place he should be at. Maybe there could be a possibility of his finishing the pool ahead of BTCGOSU.

This is how I know you guys are my true friends.

It has been a disappointing round for me. I could have collected many more howver I was unlucky. Especially Bayern Munich's last minute goal cost me 2 points directly.

What a good guy its BTCGOSU he dont make any pick so we are not gonna be in the bottom. Jokes asides, its the first time a player of the pool put all the corrects outcomes of the games like buwaytres makes this round?

Congratulations to him, a well know member of all the pools and forum.

Well, I said I was going to win this pool but I wasn't expecting the early lead, courtesy a well-timed 4 points from Freiburg's victory. I thought more people would back them, glad few did =)

Still getting used to the scoring system here but looks a lot higher than what am normally used to.

Pretty surprising because the favorites played +- well, but you usually win rounds dominated by underdogs  Wink Have you changed your forecasting system?

Probably the one who was attracted by 3 points for a draw and added these outcomes to the forecast is now very angry - only one draw out of 9 games  Grin

efialtis aka BTCGOSU missed the whole matchday and didn't give any picks and there is no need to say a word about my score Tongue
here is the matchday and total overview (the 2nd one will follow...)

I saw he missed to submit any of the bonus question either, he could still catch up despite missing a match day, but those bonus points could come back to be very important come the end of the season.

---------------------

I didn't start well, or let me just say we've got some really good new comers, the obvious one won the first round flawlessly, getting points from each of all the fixtures.
