Great thread. Thanks for opening it, @LFC_Bitcoin!

I've been hearing about cricket all my life, but for the most part it were phrases like "It's as mysterious as cricket" or "as incomprehensible as cricket", or something like that.

Finally this day has come! I'm gonna learn the rules(it's actually "laws", innit?), and gonna make my bets not blindly, like I used to in the past, but with some sorta knowledge, alright?

Just tell me, guys, is this video

a good source of info, or should I watch/read something else?
Basic rules are pretty easy to understand as some of the posters above mentioned, but the advanced rules are obviously a bit more complicated. YouTube tutorials do help, but the easiest way to understand all rules is by watching highlights of popular matches across all formats.

These highlights should include Ashes(Tests), IPL(T-20), World Cups(ODI) if you ask me since these are some of the most popular cricket tournaments.

If you have any doubts, you can always ask our community members in the discussion threads where someone will most probably answer your query.

@JSRAW summed it up very well IMO.  I think 1mbtc on NZ now and forget about it.. they always seem to make the Semi-Finals at least, a good team who always comes together at the right time.

Steve.

Not quite mBTC, but I might do another if bets elsewhere pan out. Here's my NZ outlay:

@LFC_Bitcoin very good change from your side as I am looking first time you are out of soccer hell, and hopefully you will be having good time in cricket heaven because it's also one of the most popular game around the world and big fan base available but sadly here on this forum we have no active members like you and @buwaytress hopefully now with this we will have positive change. Now, I have also my personal views about teams which are in this world cup.

I do my best to venture into unfamiliar territory (Formula 1, Major League Baseball are "recent" attempts) and lived for 2+ years in a cricket mad country so I understand football's only big for half of the world (counting population wise, even). I actually see NZ as good value in almost any sports... for no apparent reason other than Kiwis get good odds? Haha.

my prediction :
top 4 teams :australia,england,india,pakistan
top batsmen:warner,butler,rohit ,rizwan
top bowler:hazzlewood,shaheen afridi,reece topley.

underdogs worth to bet:
West indies --these guys are beast and they won 2 titles (getting 1 is dream for many teams)
new zealand ,south africa teams looks very weak .
All predictions are good about winner of the title but here problem is all cricketing fans are known this T20i is unpredictable format because on his day any team can produce amazing performance and big teams can go down badly as we have few days back in Asian Women Cup where Pakistani Women's beat Indian Women's after six years even India is currently at the top of Asian teams and just one day before Pakistan lost match against team like Thailand.

So, how things will be work for teams in this event never been easy specially Australian conditions are not favourable for many Asian teams so for me right now giving any solid prediction is never been easy but still I have feeling you all teams and players can do much good but Shaheen Afridi is coming from Injury, so he can face some issues with all batsmen are in good form, and we can expect another hell for many bowlers as right now cricket is completely batting game and also favourable for batsmen.

I do agree with you ,not only cricket any sports we cant predict exactly its just based on team strength and previous performence.I do know pak, srilanka, westindies are underdogs but still we are giving pak more importance because of their recent performence so same goes every team...seriously i do hope tought competation

The video brushes a few laws but it basically says the history of the game and it is a good video but since you are trying to learn the game
The Laws of Cricket Explained which is a great video for any novice to understand the game better and then after having an idea about the rules watch some match highlights which is available online and you will figure out the game step by step.

Basically there are three formats of the game,

  • Test match which will last 5 days and each team gets 2 innings each, unlimited overs for a bowler and 90 overs for the day. After the fifth day if there is no result it is considered a draw
  • ODI matches, 50 overs a team and a bowler could bowl a maximum of 10 overs
  • T20 matches 20 overs a team and a bowler could bowl a maximum of 4 overs

If both teams score exactly the same runs then it would be a tie and in T20 there will be a super over, which means one over will be bowled by each team and the team that scores the maximum runs will be the winner.

The rest is explained in the video above and you will understand once you understand the laws or if you have any questions there are a lot of Cricket fans in this forum who could clear every doubt  Smiley.

India: After Dhoni mostly overrated specially in ICC events have no good chance to win this world cup. Because of lake of motivation, even they have good squad.
England: Doing good in last few months specially in tour of Pakistan and now have good result against Australia in first T20, so they are capable of going into last two.
Australia: A good team which can perform good at home and have quality as well most chances they could be also in last four.
New Zealand: All time very balances team with few good individuals, but sadly they are not performing good in big events have no enough chance.
Sri Lanka: Recently won Asia Cup and have few good players but here in this event they are missing quality which is enough to win an event like this.
Pakistan: Always unpredictable even having few world-class bowlers and batsmen but mostly fail to give their best in big matches, so Dark Horse for me.

~snip~.

I hope You are correct but we all know India won bilateral series with home advantage .In home indian players has more exoerience than ever before because of IPL.Players like Shreyas Iyer, sanju samson and many players will play good .But in australia its quiet opposite to asian conditions and all am seeing is collapsing batting lineup rohit, kohli and even present sensation suryakumar everyone cant handle easily.I do wish india will play well .
You don't have to take my words for granted, just look at their Bilateral record of the last 2 years. I remember only South African tour where they got outplayed, otherwise, they've won almost everywhere be it tests or LOIs (interestingly most of the time with their B team). Also, I believe that in LOIs home conditions hardly matter anymore, maybe a slight advantage but not so much.

Anyway, they are chokers in ICC tourneys so not expecting much. Having said that new Skipper Rohit is a kinda lucky guy and is considered a lucky charm in T-20 due to his IPL records. Somehow he manages to win trophies.

Overall I'm expecting a tight contest as this format is ridiculously unpredictable. I just hope that they don't shorten the boundaries.
You summarised my views perfectly. India is actually the favorite to win the World Cup in my opinion due to their recent performances in various tournaments across different formats.
IMO Bilaterals and multiple-team competitions are different ball game so don't hold your breath.

@JSRAW I like Dark Horses, NZ looks cool, will do an outright or two and share them here Wink

Kiwis always punch above their weight in ICC tournaments, although this time around they are going through a transition period but they can still surprise everyone so not a bad choice.

Australia are the favorites by rights, I would stay away from England (no offence but they start bright like beating Australia already will not go on). I am picking South Africa with 9.56x!

My dark horse for the tournament would be Sri Lanka, all their players are fit and the way they won the recent Asia Cup after loosing the first match was unexpected as they went on to defeat India and then Pakistan in the final makes me think that they are the dark horse because they do not rely on a single player and the odds looks great.

@CLS63: I only know Imran Khan, but I don't think he's picked up a bat for 20 years!
He retired 30 years ago and he is currently 70 years Wink.

Favorites of the tournament are England and Australia as they both have a pretty deep batting line up and good bowlers.

my prediction :
top 4 teams :australia,england,india,pakistan
The problem i see with India is that they will miss Bumrah and Jadeja due to injury and the loss of Bumrah will affect the depth in bowling because he was a bowler who could change the match any time.
only bowler who is in top quality is bumrah and he got ruled out thatswhy i didnt dare to pick top bowler of the tournment from india.
underdogs worth to bet:
West indies --these guys are beast and they won 2 titles (getting 1 is dream for many teams)
They are not coming into this tournament with their known big hitters and they were struggling in recent tournaments and the same team is coming to the World Cup.
still those guys are unpredictable...their first world win also they did came with new guys and yes they are strughling right now.

Nice thread!

Don't know much about cricket but the last time I met up with Sportsbet, this was on the conversation (which now reminds me how long ago that's been!). My local exchanges and remittances are all T20 promos the last couple of weeks, though, rather than World Cup, and I'm not even from a cricket country, so that says something about this!

I don't have any knowledge about cricket. I only know one famous cricket player but I couldn't see his photo here. Tongue I always see host countries one step ahead in big tournaments. Because of that, I decided to prefer Australia.

Recently India been losing or playing a bit hard and even with pakistan they been not playing upto their level.Om coming match there will be huge pressure for indians also because no excuse will accept them this time.Hope India will win .It would add very much quality to this thread If everyone shares their view on coming matches
If we forget the Asia cup then the Indian team is doing pretty good atm and beating almost everyone in the bilateral even with their 2nd-3rd string team. Most batters (Kohli, SKY, Hooda,Pandya, Kartik) are in good touch and scoring runs. Although bowling looking a bit weak this time due to death overs. Bumrah and Jadeja are injured as well. I'd prefer if India wins the ICC trophy but sadly they are new chokers in ICC tournaments. WTC final defeat is still fresh.

Overall I'd say in PIG-3 (England and Australia) are fav as usual. Especially Poms, their batting lineup is scary af, if they click then God save the opposition. Aussies are good and have the home advantage (Watchout for Wade, Tim David, or maybe Green if he's in the playing XI).

Other than that..

Pakistan - World Class bowling but Unpredictable team-
Bangladesh - Disappointing-
Sri Lanka - Underdog-
South Africa - If they get their selection (quota system) right then they are tough opponents-
Windies - Hit and Miss-
NZ - Dark horse-
Afghanistan - A couple of tight matches, that's it-

Overall I'm expecting a tight contest as this format is ridiculously unpredictable. I just hope that they don't shorten the boundaries.

Excited for the upcoming T-20 World Cup though it's kind of weird since the 2021 World Cup concluded last year. My random prediction is that India/Australia will win the World Cup this time around.

It would be crazy if Sri Lanka/Afghanistan end up winning the cup shocking many people around the world.

Overall I'm expecting a tight contest as this format is ridiculously unpredictable. I just hope that they don't shorten the boundaries.
