Papa Steve, uncles jeremypwr and hilarious, thank you all. Really special news to hear, and a whole lot to play for. As KTChampions says that 3 mbtc freebet can be serious money if played properly, it's all you need to win to get your entry fee back. $15,000+ pot. Who'd have thought this would grow so much, eh?

Now, if I could only look into the crystal ball and see if Luton Town will do well early on. 42 days till kickoff -- I'm ready to pay!

Hey guys,

With the English Premier League set to kick-off on August 12, we wanted to give everyone the chance to get excited for what should be another fun and competitive season  Cool

Sponsorship
*  Sportsbet.io has agreed to continue the tradition with a generous 200 mBTC sponsorship   (Big thanks to Steve)
*  If we get our usual 50-60+ entrants, that brings the total pot to 325-350 mBTC+
*  The entry fee will be 2.5 mBTC and I'll leave the pot breakdown for hilariousandco to decide

Free Bets
*  There are 38 weeks in the season with the Yellow Cap winner(s) receiving a 3 mBTC Free Bet each week
*  In addition, there will be Exclusive Prediction Contests for paid entrants throughout the season; so plenty of opportunities to win additional Free Bets

Let's try to break last season's record of 61 paid entrants and get an even bigger pot  Smiley

Woah, massively generous sponsorship by sportsbet.io.

Big thanks to Papa Steve and co.

I’m looking forward to getting this up and running, we could see a record breaking sign up with the money involved here. I hope to do much better than last season so as always, count me in.

Thanks!

A 3 mbtc freebet is very cool and probably many (at least me) will take these bets more seriously, because even a 10x of the bet will give a nice amount (we all hope that bitcoin will continue to grow  Roll Eyes ).

I wish everyone good luck in advance, and I will try to attract new participants by posting information about this contest in my local.

These would have to be calculated by hand, but it requires simply pulling data into Excel after every round - which isn't that much work. It still is manual work tho.

There is an option on Superbru to have grouped rounds for interim winners ie best of the month etc, but that might be a bit overkill. Wouldn't say no if Sportsbet wanted to offer freebets for those but I think the weekly round winner is already generous enough.

For me it depends on the total budget. If it's big enough, I'm for more paying spots - simply because it's more interesting for a bigger pool of players.

If a few get an early advantage and we have only 10 or so paying spots with a pool of 60 players, half of the league already quits before Boxing day.
Hitting a yellow cap statistically gives you less than 2% chance, so isn't that big of an incentive for these players.

Maybe some monthly rewards would keep people more interested? For example, best player for that month gets a 100$ freebet on top of the standard yellow cap rewards?

Hate to praise Igebotz too many times in a year but he does have a potentially interesting solution in those freebets (as opposed to cash) for consolation. People tend to waste those freebets anyway, maybe even give them as a single $100 freebet or is that just exposure books hate? Haha.

I'm too good to be ignored, most of my ideas hit like Ghanaian crack, and yes, I suggested free bets since I know for sure that 80% will return to SB wallets, it's usually difficult to win anything with free bets since they're mostly used on the stupidest games. But it would save a lot of money on the main prizes.

Instead of the megajackpot, why not run a parallel league, just open another on SuperBru? Separate entry fee, possibly double or triple the regular fee, plus an additional requirement (a deposit of $100 at Sportsbet and 1x wager through the entire season)? Then they could cross-promo it the whole pre-season. Maybe a smaller sponsorship there but one winner-takes-all. That might offer hints at how a bigger pool with bigger fees might look like.

I will never participate in a winner-take-all pool because it is the most dangerous form of gambling. I prefer pools that force me to compete for other slots if I don't make it to the top.

I'm personally in favour of fewer prize spots -- it makes the prizes bigger, but have to say when it comes to the size of the pots here and in UCL, it probably makes it more fun for everyone to have more spots, even if those are just consolation prizes (it's a nice way to say, hey, here's your ticket back for next season). It might be my imagination, but people who feel they no longer have something to play for (ignoring that yellow caps themselves are fantastic weekly prizes) seem to drop out at the latter stages of the league.
~

A small number of prizes will lead to the fact that all those who are already far behind will go all in every round, and thus those who make more balanced predictions will be much less likely to get a yellow cap. In fact, if you look at the sum of all the "consolation" prizes, then it is not so large as to seriously increase the main prizes.

I am ready to play in parallel pools (I would like to try different strategies, I really would) but I would hardly enter a pool where there is only one prize  Cheesy

Yeah, 20 is probably too many to be honest. It's kinda annoying having to send out that many prizes as well haha. Maybe we can do top 10 substantial payments and then at the most 5 consolation prizes that basically just win you your money back or maybe a little more. I'll see how big the sponsorship is and how many people sign up before I decide but I don't think I will go with more than 15 this time.

Top 10 prize position + $100 free bet for 11-15th position.

Free bets as consolation prizes would be great if Sportsbet would agree to it. That would allow us to keep the top ten places high whilst also giving out some consolation prizes.
Yeah it would be cool, we have the same settings in the BSFL and it's been good so far, I believe SB might buy the idea as most people would prefer getting a $100 freebet  as consolation prize.

The pools have grown every year by ten or more people so far so hopefully they will keep growing. New users always join but of course some people also decide not to play again as well but we should be able to get 70 users this season and hopefully that will keep growing year after year. Maybe one year we can have some sort of mega-jackpot or maybe do some sort of winner takes all with a higher entry fee. Would be cool if someday we could get to the point where someone can win a whole bitcoin or something. Maybe Sportsbet or someone else should consider running a huge promo on their site where maybe hundreds of people can participate. They could offer other prizes like jerseys and football tickets etc.

1BTC as prize would be craziest! But that would be entirely dependent on the number of participants and how much the sponsors are ready to invest into it; if we can expand into a huge number of people in the next several years, it would be doable. Is it possible to get SB to advertise the forthcoming season in the clubtalk chats? I'm sure there would be a lot of people who would want to participate if the proper information was brought to them on time.

I've never cash in any prizes from EPL pool so far iirc and I still intended to play next season. The buy-in fee is practically close to nothing for a year long tournament anyway

Maybe one year we can have some sort of mega-jackpot or maybe do some sort of winner takes all with a higher entry fee

Probably start doing this if some people show any interest with this? I mean some of the regular that play in this pool are beast though to be able to stay at top 5 or top 10 regularly like fortebet so he alongside others might be interested

If we get anything near to or more than last season's figure, it will be a huge success. 100 is unrealistic for now because there will be many more pools and tournaments than previous season, and I don't think the pool will expand to such a size yet. Not impossible though

I've spoke to jeremypwr about sponsoring the pool again so hopefully we will hear something back soon so I can get the sign-up thread up and running.

Does anyone have any opinions on whether we should stick with top 20 payouts or maybe just do 10-15 max? Obviously it's nice for more people to win something but the 10+ places are often just your money back or a little bit more. Bigger prizes for the top ten also makes it more exciting. With the freebets for each weekly round winner there's still always something to play for anyway.

I'd say 20 payout positions is way too many, even though I enjoyed such a privilege last season, but it wasn't that much because it was only equivalent to the sign up fees. I'd suggest 10 payout slots or max 15 with a better payment plan to attract new members and also to motivate old members to make it extremely competitive.
The more prize spots we have the higher the desire of people who would want to join the pool,I am predicting a near 100 participants pool this year although I know this is a fairly optimistic prediction for the 2023/2024 season.

I of course agree with 20 places payout if we manage to get over 60 participants as I think the last pool was a huge success in terms of participant,in fact it was the best season so far and not only in my personal opinion also that of many other players.

I would have to agree with you on only distributing prizes to the top 10 for larger amounts in gaining those places. So you have something more to play for and not just putting in your selections on a whim (sometimes I just put in a high score 6-0 or 7-0 because I knew I wasn't going to get anything from it) by the end of the tournament.
Sort of like how those teams in the last three spots played on the pitch at the end of the season knowing they were getting relegated.
And doing it in this way I won't be paying for someone's entry fee knowing there was something more to play for this season in the EPL forum pool.

Farewell LEO: o_e_l_e_o
Next month sound eternity for gamblers.
Last few weeks since the UCL final the days are dull LOL
There are no sports to follow at least for me. I cannot wait for the season to start.

But joining more than three pools, you won't have enough time to look into all of them.
For me PL and UCL are more than enough. If I take more challenges in hand, then I am pretty sure I will lose focus.
