Season 1 history || Season 2 historyAfter a successful World cup pilot project, we're happy to inform you that the forum PVP competition is back and will be bigger, longer and better than before!
This time Cro2 team is introducing the Sportsbet's Bitcointalk Sports Fanatics League (BSFL)!
For now it will run throughout 2023 and will have 2 seasons, but the plan is for it to become a multi-year project, with seasons potentially lasting for a whole calendar year.
General competition format- A multi-league PVP H2H system in which players play against each other every round for points like in football (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw).
- Points are earned by predicting sports results/situations/events throughout the week.
- If you played our World Cup competition you know roughly what to expect but his one will have more sports with majority of questions still being football.
- At a later stage the plan is to host a yearly competition with 20 teams per league, 38 rounds in total and promotion/relegation playoffs at the end of the season.
- There would ideally be 3 leagues in total, so 60 players maximum.
Schedule for 2023In the first year, the leagues would occur during the following dates:
Season 1 - COMPLETED- 13.2. - 28.5. (15 weeks) – 12 teams per league, 3 leagues (11 rounds, 1-legged competition) – 36 players
- Start date is the CL knockouts week (13.2.), end is the last PL games/CL final
- 2 teams will be relegated to lower divisions, 4 teams promoted from 2nd to the 1st division and 6 teams promoted from the 3rd division to the 2nd division
- Bottom 2 teams will be relegated directly
- Top 3 teams will be promoted directly from the 2nd Division to the 1st one, and positions 4.-5. will play 1v1 decider in the first week of Roland Garros.
3rd league has 6 promotion places (4 direct, 2 playoffs – 5v8, 6v7)
Season 2 - COMPLETED- 5.6. – October (18-20 weeks) – 14 teams per league in Divisions 1 and 2, 12 teams per league in Divisions 3a and 3b (13/11 rounds dependent of leagues, 1-legged competition) – (52 existing players, still taking applications for Season 3)
- 2 teams will be relegated to lower divisions, 4 teams promoted from 2nd to the 1st division and 6 teams promoted from the 3rd divisions to the 2nd division
- Bottom 2 teams will be relegated directly
- Top 3 teams will be promoted directly from the 2nd Division to the 1st one, and positions 4.-5. will play 1v1 decider. 3rd Division has 6 promotion places (2 direct, 1 playoff (3v4 place) from 3A and the same from 3B)
- The future outcome of Divisions 3 and 4 depends on the number of new players entering in Season 3. We have envisaged the possibility of relegation from Division 3 into Division 4, but are yet not sure whether it will happen or not
- Maybe nobody will drop to Division 4, maybe 1 or 2 players will drop. So far play like the last 2 players are dropping down for sure, and we'll see if these players will be lucky when the season finishes
Season 3 - CURRENTLY RUNNING- It will start on 16.10. and probably last until early March (20 weeks or so).
- We have 16 teams per Divisions 1 and 2 (15 rounds, 1-legged competition + the Cup and playoffs) and an undefined number of players in Division 3 so far (probably 24 or more).
Don't take the end date for granted – it might be a week or 2 earlier or later – depending on how we do the Cup and playoffs. - Regarding Division 3 - We have 1 player that withdrew and 1 player that won’t be near his computer for a few months due to personal reasons so had to withdraw as well.
Unfortunately, that is our Division 3B playoff winner Ozymandias_DZ – who deserved his promotion to Division 2. The spot will be taken by his playoffs opponent vivekdhyani1. - Considering that his reason for absence was valid and unavoidable, if at some point Div2 will be expanded again, we’ll probably give him some sort of an advantage in Division 3 that won’t be harmful for the competition.
- We have 2 new players arriving so far (Brahim012 and shogun47) and will probably keep the same format of Division 3 going forward with 12 clubs in Divs A and B – but might decide on something else entirely.
- We might even get more people in until the official start of the season.
- What we can surely say is that the Divisions 1 and 2 will not be expanding this season – meaning that Season 4 will have 16 teams in Division 1 and 16 teams in Division 2.
- This season there won’t be a Division 4, but that does not mean that the following one we won’t have it.
- If we do go with Division 4, Division 3 will have 16 players as well and all other players will be relegated to Division 4 (all spots below top 8 if we go with 2 Division 3’s).
- It is more likely that we’ll continue having 2 Division 3’s, in that case there won’t be relegation and we’ll keep filling the Div3 spots with new players.
- There will be 3 or 4 players relegated from Division 1 to Division 2 (3 direct, 13th from Div 1 will play directly against 4th from Div2 for the last spot in Division 1.
- Therefore, 3 or 4 players will be promoted from Division 2 to Division 1 (3 direct, 1 potentially in playoffs (4th team from Div 2 to play 13th team from Div 1).
- There will be 3 or 4 players relegated from Division 2 to Division(s) 3. 3 players from Division 2 will be relegated directly and the 13th player from Division 2 will play a H2H game versus Division 3 playoff loser.
- That will be defined in paragraph below, so please read it.
- 4 players will be promoted from Division 3 to Division 2. Division 3A winner and Division 3B winner will be promoted directly, and players placed on positions 2, 3, 4 and 5 from both Division 3’s will enter a cup-style playoff format.
- Out of these 8 players, only 1 will secure direct promotion. The loser of the final game of this promotion bracket will have 1 more chance though – he’ll play the 13th team from Division 2 for a spot in Division 2 next season.
Promotion/relegation system visuallyPrizes and buy-ins- There will be a buy-in fee of 2.5 mBTC for the 1st Division spots. Other divisions are free to play but rewards are not as attractive as in First Division. Check our dedicated sign up thread for more details.
- The 1st Division rewards will come mostly from Sportsbet's sponsorship fee
The collected amount from 1st Division participants and a minority of the 1st Division's budget will cover the 2nd division.
The 3rd division will be free to enter, and rewards will be some free bets, amount dependent on the final placement. - Top 3 players in the 1st season of Division 1 will receive invitations to 'beers with Steve/poker with Steve' event, where they will be able to meet Steve and some other members of the SB's team.
We plan to have similar rewards in other seasons as well. - Almost every member will get a portion of the prize pool and the prizes are purposely set like that so that throughout the competition there is always something to play for.
- To make it even more engaging we will add weekly free bet rewards for the player with most correct answers in each league (40$ for 1st league, 30$ for 2nd, 2x10 for 3rd league).
Only one player per league can claim the weekly reward - rules for the freebet grading are here. - The funds are in control of Cro2 on our escrow wallet.
- The rewards will be transferred to BTC at the start of the competition and paid out in that amount later.
- The eventual small difference in payment due to tx fees will be added/deducted from the reward for the Division 1 champion.
Rewards distributionSome notes and explanations are below:
- Sportsbet was kind to increase rewards again.
We feel we’re in a good place now both with the rewards amount and with the number of players in top 2 Divisions, so in the next few seasons we’ll probably make only some small corrections when/if needed. - Total budget for the Season 3 will be in excess of 7.500$. Sportsbet will provide 6.750$ in BTC and we have already collected 40mBTC from Div 1 participants.
- We will once again have a big freebets budget to add to that – 900$ total for final placement and 1.250$ for weekly rewards.
- In total, that is close to 10.000$ in total prize pool.
Cup rewards will be announced with the Cup schedule - in due time. There will be a Cup, as always.Competition rules- There will be a questionnaire for every round and it will consist of 10 questions – the Bitcointalk's World Cup participants already know how it looks like.
Majority of the questions will be football-based, with some other important events mentioned as well. After every round the points will be calculated and according to fixtures list, the P2P duel will be resolved.
The player with more correct answers will get 3 points for a win, and if the players have the same amount of correct answers they will be rewarded 1 point each.
Example – if you win the duel with 7-5 result, you'll still get 3 points. If you win with 2-1 result, you get 3 points as well. - The questions will be about the upcoming week's sports events and the answers need to be submitted before the 1st game of the round starts. We will be using Google forms for that.
- Forum rank Full Member and higher can participate.
Some exceptions will be made, Sportsbet will make some spots available for newly registered members that are active on Clubtalk chat or some other SB platforms. - The 3rd Division still has spots open.
- The players that will be in the Division 1 in every following season will always have to pay the buy-in fee.
The minimum buy-in fee will be 60$ in BTC equivalent with potential that it gets increased in case the reward pool gets bigger in the future. - If you fail to participate in more than 2 rounds in a season, you will be removed from your league and will be able to rejoin from the lowest Division next season, if there is space left.
This is decided because we want to make the competition fair to everybody - if you don't play often, some opponents get easy points while others do not.
Added rules1.) Please install
Telegram Bitcointalk bot. You will get notified every time we tag participants for important info.
2.) Please submit your answers on time.
Failure to submit on time in this season means instant loss.3.) Please submit all the answers, and submit them with possible outcomes. When you give free points in your H2H questions to your opponent, it isn't fair to all other league members.
4.) To deal with the situations from points 2) and 3), we are forced to introduce some penalties.
Each team that fails to submit answers on time or submits the answers in a way that is not in accordance with competition rules will receive a 1 point deduction – not for that round but from total points won in the league.
We think the penalty is fair to keep the league competitive, and you can always ask in the thread if you don't understand some of the questions.
5.) If you repeatedly fail to submit the questions on time and in correct format, there's a high chance that we will be forced to remove you from the competition.
The competition is becoming more serious and with the plans Sportsbet has for it going forward, we all need to do our part to make it fair and exciting. You were doing that most of the time in Seasons 1 and 2 so we aren't worried, and we thank you for it.
General remarks- We would really like to create some connection between the BTT community members. Therefore, we'd like this thread to be a combination of banter, sports analysis and general feedback.
We will purposely introduce occasional questions about cricket, NFL, e-sports, baseball etc. to bring more visibility to important sports events and milestones.
We encourage you to discuss about it and offer your analysis/opinions here. - Sportsbet will also have some extra rewards for most helpful or active participants, Steve promised to drop by occasionally and rain some free bets.
- We hope we'll all have a lot of fun with this, it is a test version of the competition that will run throughout 2023 and if there will be enough interest & hype around it, we're sure that it will span through multiple seasons.
- We know this is a lot to take in, especially if you did not participate in our Wold Cup completion thread. Feel free to check that one for some info as well.
We are here to answer all your questions and everything will be very clear once competition starts and the few rounds are completed. - For now just make sure to sign up in dedicated thread because the spots will be limited.
