Sure you got the Bitmex trollbox which is crazy busy at times but its mostly kids on there who post crap. The Poloniex trollbox was the only one I can remember that was mostly of mature audience. I remember I would just keep it open in my browser on my 3rd monitor and just read the posts throughout the day. You didn't need to go to any Bitcoin news site because it usually appears there first

That's the whole point about trollboxes

When in February 2017 the Chinese central bank cracked down on local exchanges forcing them to disable both cryptocurrency withdrawals and deposits, the news first emerged in the BTC-e trollbox as some Russian traders had been using Chinese exchanges too and they were told in private by the staff of these exchanges about this attack on crypto. On the next day the prices crashed like 20% with Bitcoin going below 950 dollars (though not for a long time). In this manner, I agree with you that trollboxes can be a valuable source of information (as well as disinformation, for that matter)

Throughout all the years and the various trollboxes that I've attended the one I miss the most and question why it was removed in the first place was the Poloniex trollbox.

Yeah, non sense. The Trollbox is not only fun, it gives new users the trust of having real people on the site.

I noticed Stake requires roughly $80 worth of BTC in wager to use the chat function?
If anyone can use trolbox then it will used only for spamming any important discussion will have no value as spamming will be more than that. In that case, if anyone wants to chat on trolbox then she or he will not be able to create multi-account to spam on trolbox. As a result, he will not be able to do spamming too much also the person will afraid for the deposit amount while the person will spamming as he will be afraid to be banned from the site and loss the person's deposit amount.

read yout post twice
could not follow or understand what you were trying to say, sorry
you do not get banned for spamming chat, well , bar some special cases where you are deliberatly disrupting the chat
there is no need to ban you, it is enough to mute you
and in any case, your deposits are safe
Okay, though you have not understood what I wanted to say, your answer is the same point or expressed everything which I mentioned. I think if require a fee to take part on chat then it will reduce a lot of spammers as the spammer can't create a lot of accounts to spam.

If my memory serves me correctly, It was btc-e (btc-e's trollbox was the original trollbox for many people) exchange who came up with that paid trollbox idea and it worked flawlessly. That's why new enterprises also follow that path

Yeah, you should have had like 1k dollar worth in your account. Interestingly, when they first introduced this requirement, rumors surfaced that there was also a chatbox called VIP-chat. To get there, your balance should have been over $100k in total. But as virtually nobody had so much on this exchange, there were neither confirmation nor rebuttal of its very existence, just rumors and insinuations. Anyway, it didn't stop the owners from scamming at the end of the day (sorry for your losses)

I don't mean stake.com but paid trollboxes are not a guarantee of any kind, just in case

What's crazy is that it was probably only removed a year ago or less, but it feels like its been gone for decades since Crypto time sure flies fast.

80 dollars "wagered" is not really 80 dollars bankroll. So, even tough it looks like the limit is really high on wagering, you can just wager 2 dollars 40 times and get the chat function working.

Instead of spending all of it at one time you can divide it, there is as much as 90%+ winning odds in dice games for example which means you can just bet 1 dollar for 80 times and usually come out on top and only have couple of times where you lose only 1 dollar, probably will be left with 70+ dollars at the end if chatting is what you want. This way they can somehow stop or at least make it difficult for spammers to come into chat and make advertisements of their products constantly and keep spamming every 3 seconds or whatever. People really take advantage of crowded chats so it was a proper move by stake team.

I don't understand why people made a big deal out of a stupid troll box. Nowadays you can't even find a free troll box on any exchange or casino, even if there was one, I guarantee you that you won't stay long there.

Looks like it is a new limit to stop spammers. Some months ago it was completely free to use, even with no deposit.
If you really want to use the chat, just bet on a game with a high winning chance, like Dice at 99%, and you will get your bet amount completed easily and with almost no risk (well, 1%)
That's actually good IMO, most spammers in the chat are not serious bettors, it will pollute the chat and we won't be able to use its purpose effectively. Betting is the first thing that we do and we all aim to win, chat is just an extra but we should maintain a good conversation on it, make it fun all the time without spamming, I hope other sites would do the same.

I haven't wagered much on stake but for me to send messages on the chat i'm required to wager $100 worth of BTC or ~0.03 BTC (altcoin counts too). Not a big deal though can be easily achieved even with a small bankroll.

nope , it is exactly to stop spam by new accounts, some individuals can be really annoying
they would create a ton of new alt accounts and post .. obscenities and their valued opinions on how the site is a scam etc.
I agree, with how easy it is to create an account on stake (type any username and click join you're in) it's only a matter of time until they add wager requirements. This is also a good solution against users who are planning to evade their ban.

I think point of using the wagered amount is not to stop the trollbox by the new accounts but more like trying to slow down the chat somehow, I know it is already quite fast but if you can manage to find a better way to stop the trollbox going incredibly fast than you can use that but clear choice is always not allowing the new ones to post without hurting anyone.

New ones will either go away soon not gambling too much or will stay here for a long time and become part of the stake family. In either case it keeps the chat box not being too much crowded. I also suggest maybe accounts that have not been active for a long time to actually get a "soft ban" kinda like not wagered but active online type situation where someone who hasn't been talking for over a month comes in again but needs to wait 24 hours to go back to having chat priviliges. Thats just me of course, stake does what it does best and they know how to control the trollbox.

this makes lives of moderators very hard, plus it is not very good for business when a ton of spammers posting that the site is this and that
besides it is very easy to reach that threshold for a new user even using the free faucet
sometimes it can be frustrating for a new user to not be able to ask questions in chat straight away, but I think it is a reasonable measure

I think there are better ways to do that

Note that I'm not gambling much these days so I don't know how it is actually done at stake.com but to limit the flow of useless chit-chat, you can simply add a couple of smart filters. The ignore list is known to everyone but it is for "fine tuning", so to speak, and certainly not the only way to limit the flood of messages. For example, you can also install filters to ignore only fresh users (e.g. newly created accounts or not older than x days). You can also set a fuzzy filter on the user account balance (fuzzy to avoid finding out how much one has in his wallet)

Obviously, there are a myriad of other ways to manage a chat box and to make it appear less crowded without actually taking to drastic measures and hurting anyone's feelings

These days most bitcoin services usually require a certain deposit or a certain amount of wagers to use the trollbox. A few years back you could use a brand new account and chat freely however there is tons of abuse, harassment and begging so they had to implement this.

The amount doesn't need to be large, but large enough to make it a hassle and make the abuser move on to another website. Basically what they do is either trick people or they basically have some story like "I've lost all my BTC gambling and my family has no bread to eat" and there is usually someone that will tip this person. So the abuse obviously works thats why they keep doing it. Its no different from the pan handlers that you see outside of Church, they are there because its works and people give them money. Hence the reason why PD and Stake had to implement these restrictions.

Fair enough. Pretty common to see beggars and those that joined for the sake of rain.

Since I was on mobile which failed to notify me, I checked out some thread dated September last year which mentioned the minimum was heavily reduced, so I was pretty surprised when it was at ~80 after seeing it pop up.

I don't blame Stake for doing this, those abusers are the reason why we can't have nice things.

Chipito shows us why Stake is the king of large payout multipliers!

Comment your Stake username and retweet this post for a chance to win a small prize!

Congrats on such a big winning. Such a legit service is not possible with every dice site. Stake has come up with the perfect plan of profiting users to some extent. Because when the gambling website provide very low winning in comparison to the gambling house users won't use the particular website for a longer time period. To have strong user network legitimate and good winnings were the only way. Even now looking at this winning at least few users could have signed up to stake.
