I can't connect to https://steemd.com/ to see user growth stats at all, anyone else have that problem?

Steem can be realy good tip money but hold on- its already Doge coin... So steem need to fight ,-to fly . Right now its sinking (well we can play with it ) but one day it can do her last breath ((((

The founders and "friends"-accounts are still pulling a ridiculous amount of money out of the system and the userbase is only growing by a really tiny bit (check https://steemd.com/)

Yes, you can mine to get a chance to be included as a witness. Unfortunately, this has been dominated by two people for months. I'm not sure a change in the algo is going to change this domination. We'll see.

I haven't mined in a few months, but this guide may help you get started if you don't mind compiling it yourself and running under linux/Ubuntu.
