A question like that is a stupid one. Sorry for the term I used. It's like this: someone you don't know asks you how much is in your bank account. Of course, you have a bank account, and you know you have savings there. Will you tell the public how much your savings are?

My God! It's good that there are many intelligent communities on this forum platform who don't simply answer stupid questions. The majority of people who ask such questions may already have bad intentions or motives.

What op have shared is something I believe have been discussed here multiple time, well, I don't know how many, but atleast, I still remember coming across, and even commenting on same topics or subjects as this, a multiple time on this board.

Anyways, I completely agree with what is being discussed, it is always wrong to let people (both the ones we know, and ones we don't know personally) know how much bitcoin we own, and this rule is not peculiar to bitcoin alone, it is a rule we have to apply to our finance in general, the world have gone far from what it used to be in terms of safety, no one can be trusted even a sibling, letting people know how much bitcoin we own could also mean we selling ourself out, it's a very risky and dangerous thing to do honestly.

You can trust people but have never been so open to them that you need to show how much you own (BTC). Because I believe there should be some gap between our friends and for security reasons, sometimes we need to hide especially when it comes to money. Because it was hard to determine who were really our true friends and who were not, and even in our family members, not all could be trusted. It is better to keep it private rather than let others know besides, we don't need appreciation instead, we need security as we know that not all our friends are happy with our achievements, even some of our family members.

It is not even if people can be trusted or not, I would say everybody can talk too much when having a drink or two, So best to keep your own mouth shut......if that is not possible you can hardly blame others.....

I just wanted to share a piece of advice that I learned early on from Andreas Antonopoulos (if you don't know whom this is, I highly recommend looking up his YouTube page and watching his videos and or reading his book Mastering Bitcoin) never tell anyone how much bitcoin you have.  Andreas use to say it's not our job to teach everyone we know about bitcoin, letting them know we own some "Let that be my job" he would say.

I see so many people that come around here sharing how much bitcoin they own...don't.  Just like any of your finances such as your portfolio or how much your annual salary is..it's no one's business but your own.  Being transparent about these things can be harmful to you in a multitude of ways.  As an advisor this is something I tell my clients all the time.  Your financial info is private and should always remain that way.  I hate these new social media trends where people walk up to strangers on the street and ask things like "how much do you pay in rent" or "how much money do you make a year"...ignore them!

for those who are early adopters at the moment it is no longer a question of money but of security
Be careful because there are unkind people around, take care of yourselves

Of course no outsider will know how much bitcoins I have in my wallet except me and my family. Kidnapping is more likely, especially if outsiders know. But one thing is very important if family members know about bitcoins in my wallet then in case of any accident my family members can easily retrieve my left bitcoins and spend them in future for family needs.

Family, only if you can trust them. You will not believe how many family members will turn on you with blackmail in order to get a share of your money, if you get wealthy.
I don't trust everyone in my family but I trust my parents to write down the private details of my wallet in a note book and keep it in a good secret place. Since I am single till now there is no way to share my bitcoin wallet with my children. Also, I have no family members except my parents, but in future if I get married, I can definitely share my Bitcoin wallet with my wife. But I believe my parents will never betray me.

I fully agree with this piece of advice, even your friends can betray you

So-called "friends" who betray you to others in order to get a share of your crypto are not really your friends, they are just hungry hyenas like from the Lion King who want to devour you.

Yeah telling people how much Bitcoin and other assets we have is a suicide. I mean you are just putting yourself and your family at risk. Giving people and idea how much wealth we have you are just giving them a hint and you make yourself and your family a target.

Ha! I see them a lot in TikTok and Facebook reels. These kids don't know what they are doing, just for the sake of attempting to make the video viral.
You support them by watching their videos.

Well, technically yes, but that was never the intention. I think there's a fine line between supporting their videos and not. First, I'm not their subscriber and I did not finish the whole video as I just only stumbled upon these kind of content while scrolling the platform.
I'm not so familiar with how your content or your video in any social media platform would monetize, but I think they won't get enough or non at all if you just skip it right after a few seconds you realized it's a sh*t content.

I hate these new social media trends where people walk up to strangers on the street and ask things like "how much do you pay in rent" or "how much money do you make a year"...ignore them!

Some of the social media trends are not real, because all those guys use all those fake achievement from their Bitcoin investment to deceive other newbies that is following them on social media, because they knew that people must ask them to show them way so that they will begin to achieve incomes like them. Telling someone you know about your rent is not a bad thing OP, but telling a stranger your house rent and how much you earned in your Bitcoin investment is very wrong and it can lead to many things that will attract hackers or killers. I don't think, I will respond to such strangers on the social media asking such question, because everybody on social media is a suspect to me, based on experience I had in the past from people.

Although it's correct, some people don't care about that because they use it to build their personal branding and make more money with that. So it's really depend on someone personality and goal.

Because Bitcoin is basically anonymous, it's best to keep Bitcoin as our secret to avoid something we don't want in the future. Sometimes to convince or make people interested in investing in bitcoin we don't have to show the number of bitcoins we have, we just need to look at the history of bitcoin from past to present and the benefits of investing in bitcoin for the future.
Most people think someone who have Bitcoin is rich, if you know about Bitcoin, able to explain it to other people, believe me, everyone will see you like a millionaire. You only have two choices: stay silent or people will envy with you.

At present the situation has become that bitcoin is considered illegal in our country if we accept that we have science in case bitcoin is not legal in our country.  So I think it's better if we don't share how much of our balance we have or how much bitcoin we have in case we get caught by law.
You don't have to share how much you have, if you said you have Bitcoin, it's over. Tongue

I agree, in general you have to be cautious when sharing financial matters, and regarding Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies even more so. But I wouldn't take it to the extreme either. People who know the neighborhood you live in can get an idea of your annual salary, that's why I think in a given conversation it's ok to share, unlike what the OP thinks. As for Bitcoin it's another thing because you can risk a $5 wrench attack.

Yeah telling people how much Bitcoin and other assets we have is a suicide. I mean you are just putting yourself and your family at risk. Giving people and idea how much wealth we have you are just giving them a hint and you make yourself and your family a target.

But there are things you can't hide. If you live in a house worth $0.5M (which is the average price of houses in that area) and you have a vacation home worth another $0.5M (which at least your friends and acquaintances will know, there is little you can hide. Knowing that, and if they know what you do for a living, people can get an idea of your salary.

Yes, it's definitely true because of the current rate at which enemies are being created if you start telling your current balance or how much Bitcoin you have.  Then he will become jealous and enmity against you.
Because at present no one can see the good in anyone because everyone knows that no one else can see that someone will move forward with someone.

Because by sharing you increase your personality, it is better to be small than to see yourself big because if you are big people will see you and try to harm you.  So without anyone sharing your acid or your current balance you act like you and lose your future or your balance.

Yes that's right. Of course, as times progress, many people want to invest in Bitcoin. However, even if you want to teach friends or other people to invest in bitcoin, it would be better if we just teach it without having to show the number of bitcoins we have.

Numbers are not important, what matters is how much knowledge you have about bitcoin and whether you are able to pass it to the person you trying to convince. Also convincing someone on grounds that I have this much bitcoin so you must also invest in bitcoin is not a good move since what works for you may or may not work for other. If you are trying to convince a person then tell him both pros ans cons of bitcoin, so he enter with sufficient knowledge and can do trading on his own.

A Bitcoiner chooses. A slave obeys.
Asking how much Bitcoin someone has is just as rude as asking how much fiat they have in the bank. Or how much money they earn from their job. It is really rude. Furthermore it is very risky to actually tell someone the amount of money you have. What if they are asking because they want to know if its worth robbing you by force. 'Oh you got xxx amount of Bitcoin? Hand it over. Life or xxx amount of Bitcoin. So giving the answer is really dumb. Especially if you have a large amount of Bitcoin ( relative to whatever it is that is considered large where you live)

One important course everyone aspiring to invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies should take seriously is security education, this way they will be able to learn and understand that most of these insignificant information they give out and the things they do can cause them lots of damages. This will also save them the stress of learning from their own worst experiences. Today, same people who are very reluctant to disclose their bank balances to a third party take pride in announcing on social media platforms that they own certain portions of Bitcoins. Obviously they are yet to have the consciousness that Bitcoin is also a digital currency and their accounts can be exposed to attacks if scammers who truly know their worth see such posts.
No matter the motive for exposing your financial details to a third party, you have to be security conscious because the numbers of scammers are increasing everyday and they are ready to strike whenever they see a juicy opportunity.

Snobbery...

We currently experience access to personal information in a brutal way, it is not only the fact of the information about your finances, but also showing what you have, your house, your trips and, worst of all, exposing your family publicly.

I don't know how to change the thinking of others, even people confuse anonymity with privacy and consequently have no idea about digital security.

I think that recommending reading that good book, and/or knowing that popularizer (Andreas Antonopoulos) It's the only thing we can do, at least you can begin to understand many other concepts.

Message @Hhampuz if you are looking for a CM!
What’s the purpose of telling other people that you have bitcoin? Some would say not to brag but to inspire, but the fact that other people won’t ask or care for it, then you should keep it all by yourself than to disclose it to other people. Otherwise, you are only putting your own investments at risk since people would jump to conclusion that you have wealth in you that would make them feel envy on it. And you’ll only find out that someone has already thinking on how to steal your bitcoin or worst make your bitcoin as a ransom.

I think that's pretty obvious you shouldn't disclose the amount of your coins to anyone except perhaps your closest ones. Some people I know even refuse to tell their family the exact amount of their holdings. You are not bragging about your bank account balance in public, do you? Then why would you share info on the amount of your coins? Basic opsec.
