My strategy for buying altcoin is base on its potential in the future and the previous price history as well. I am not really a long time holder when it comes to altcoin but I base my decision on its current price compared to its price history. If it is on its support then I will buy that coin given that it has an incoming update and its developers are active. I am just buying 2-3 alts because it is easier to monitor the prices this way and make necessary adjustments if there is a significant move of the prices in those alts or in bitcoin since bitcoin has a big influence on the alts prices.

Dividing the portfolio out so is very risky because only based on its price that the investment decision is not sufficient basis. Remember that we invest with knowledge and money, not with ambiguous hope

I think you can buy some new coins which finished its ICO recently because the price is below the ICO price and it will recover soon since the bitcoin pumps a lot and the market will get warmer.

Best strategy is always to buy when nobody wants to buy. This is where we are right now imho.

Then sell the euphoria, when everybody is calling the flippening or other crazy targets.

Grouping them price wise may lead you into trouble. You could have grouped them by potential wise. For example

Grp I - BTC
Grp II- ETH, NEO
Grp III- OMG, LTC, Waves
Grp IV- BAT, ARK, ANT,DGB

It's just an example and is in no way relevant to any order of potential.

Yes, your portfolio looks pretty good. BTW: If you would have baught your fun coins RDD and doge at beginning of this year, you would have multiplied your funds. Also Ethereum and Litecoin. So hold your portfolio on longterm.

This is good idea in trading, but in my opinion to many grouping of altcoin so will be confused, divide in to 3 group is better, because we can not handle it if we buy many altcoin in the same time. By grouping to 3 altcoin we can more focus in trading.

In my opinion, grouping altcoins in this way is not helpful. Because you have categorized coins based on their price and the price of a single coin does not matter

I see many members talk about the altcoin

I want to share my idea about the good strategy for buying altcoin

I think you must divide your supply into four groups based on the prices

1-Group one ( >100 $)

I think the best coin in this group is Ethereum

2-Group two (10< <100 $)

I believe in this group NEO and Litecoin has a good potential

3-Group three (1< <10 $)

I believe the Gamecredit, Komodo, Waves and OmiseGO coins

4-Group four ( <1$)

here I think DGB, XVG, SC and Burst are good choices

4-Group ...... (Just for fun Smiley)

Reddcoin and Dogecoin

What's your idea my friends?

great strategy you got there mate! But you also have to include major concerns like researching about the dev team themselves first before reading their project's whitepaper. Then eliminate from your list projects with dev teams having bad feedbacks or reputations. Then reading the whitepaper and sorting your list from greatest project to less great. Those are pretty importanf things to consider when buying altcoins.

The strategy is wrong, people divide their investments depending on the risk but using the price is a mistake, look at the market cap not the price, by using that you could create the next classification.

Group 1, more than 1 billion in market cap.
Group 2, less than 1 billion but more than 100 million.
Group 3, less than 100 million but more than 10 million.
Group 4, less than 10 million.
I correct it in the second post

I will split investment into the following groups

Infrastructure (future market cap >10 billion)
Ethereum, EOS, NEO

Service (future market cap > 2 billion)
OMG, Steem, Chainlink

Application ( future market cap > 500million)
Bitquence

10% of historical high coins (what if they go back to 50% of ATH?)
NMR, Digibyte

Coins for fun
coins that you can buy a million
any airdrop coins if you have time
any coins that have cool names

Sad Does price matter? You should divide them according to their market caps. It doesn't important though, what does it changes?

Ok I changed it based on the market cap again what’s your idea about the coins and strategy?

1-Group one ( >10 billion)

Ethereum

2-Group two (1< <10 billion)

NEO and Litecoin

3-Group three (500< <999 million)

OmiseGO

4-Group four (100< <499 million)

Waves, Komodo, Siacoin, Dogecoin, Game Credit

5-Group five (10< <99 million)

DGB, Verge, Rise, Reddcoin, Burst

This diversification based on marketcap looks cool but I would probably remove some coins in the list like Siacoin, reddcoin, Digibyte, burst. Instead of these try adding new promising coins like Kyber, chainlink etc These have more potentially than the above mentioned coins.

that's should how trading works mate, you don't need to place your entire investment in just one project just like what many other said don't lay your eggs i one basket but split it over from one project to another, i like what you did putting bigger stake with Eth as we knew that this coin have a big potentials after the fork was been finished.

It's great to split up and diversify your portfolio but market cap isn't necessarily the way to do it. You need to simply find a way to judge which coins you think have the greatest potential to grow. For example, as much as ETH has the largest cap it still arguably has more potential than some of the other coins you have included for growth.
