What do you think?

I think if you folks want to tinker with Neptunes you should have ordered one for yourself.

Elenelen carry on hashing away. Don't do anything that might risk extended downtime for your new machine.

In my post I said the values marked "Temp" were the ones coming from the LM75. Which they are.

How do you know those two devices are LM75s ?

Why are there 2 per board ?

How do you know where those temperature numbers are coming from ?

Do you have a Neptune ? Have you studied the board schematics ?

And even if they were LM75 devices and there was some reason for having 2, how do you know that the controller isn't interpreting their outputs to allow for thermal gradients across the board from the die to the LM75 ?

Carry on with the BS FUD OKAVNGR. No one pays any attention to you. You are now ignored until you show some signs of intelligence and maturity.

Connectors...

Don't you think the connectors which seem to be slightly under rated might enjoy improvement via this stuff:
http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/greases-and-lubricants/conductive-greases/carbon-conductive-grease-846/

I can imagine a very good / excellent contact would reduce arching and meltdown at the connector if these were greased with conductive grease which tends to improve the electrical contact between sliding parts.

What do you think?

I noticed as well that the aluminum plate isn't touching all the VRM's with the same pressure.
What is the thickness of the thermal pad between the VMR's and the aluminium plate ? 0.5mm, 1mm or 1.5mm ?
it's possible to replace the thermal pad and put a thicker one.

It's more like 5 mm.  So already thick.

I think you are only partly right.

No, I am 100% right.

In my post I said the values marked "Temp" were the ones coming from the LM75. Which they are.

The ones on the advanced page are mirrored on the rig status page (give or take rounding error):

Thanks

The only reason I didn't refund my $10k was both cloud hashing and the second Neptunes.

If this is true! Cancel my cloud hashing!

I regret not refunding, I'll never make my money back at this point.

I didn't ask for refund because of the same reasons as yours. Even though it is difficult to get back the refund with both cloud hashing and second neptune, I treated KnC's previous announcements as a positive sign to care for the customers. I didn't expect they will f--- the customers like this!

I don't get it. You can still refund Monday if you like, so why don't you? It may take a few weeks, but KnC will always honor refund requests as long as you make the request before the item ships.

"few weeks"

Kinda lol'd at that

Not really. From their point of view once they start shipping en masse all refund request are to be denied.
It doesn't matter if yours is still to be shipped or not.
Another thing that makes them huge assholes.

Maximum operating temperature of the BMR46x series is 125 C.

http://archive.ericsson.net/service/internet/picov/get?DocNo=28701-EN/LZT146435&Lang=EN&HighestFree=Y

Elenelen, when you get a chance could you please read the numbers on the two black 8 pin packages near the side of the board and post them here ?

There is no way to read anything on those VRM-boards: completely covered with the aluminum plate.

Not the VRM boards, the two 8 pin packages near the edge of the board please. They are in plain sight in the recent photo posted here ( https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.7436143 )

OK, next time I will stop Neptune, and screw one box open, I will try...  Right now I have just started the system, after a full day of tinkering...

Dream become broken often
i urge all neptune miners to not use the grey thermal pad n metal thing on top...i'm willing to guess that this will fry out your vrms way quicker...i left that grey pad on my nov. mods and oc'd it and the smd caps are now almost black...so imagine what this will do to your unit with even higher power vrms and heat...just a warning to ya'll

That's not easy at all. ... This because the large aluminum plate has an |_|_| shape (3 fingers).  The middle-finger is holding the Tower, the rest is shaped over the VRM's......  removing the plate, needs some other plate to fasten the Tower.

well after a few days, keep an eye on the smd caps and see if i'm right or not Smiley not trying to spread FUD, just trying to help ppl not fry out their expensive units...it wouldn't surprise me none that knc tested these units and saw this is what was gona happen and shipped them like it anyways...

Are you willing compensate Neptune owners for the damage that may occur resulting from people taking your advice ?

point taken, didn't think about that...edited my post, Thanks

For quite sometime I ran the system in factory-default: but 3 of the boxes have high temps on the first VRM (about 106 C). This is partly because of the position of the boxes in my server-room (re-arranging them gives high temps on other devices), and partly because the aluminum plate isn't pressing equally on all the VRM's (especially the first VRM on all boxes has problems) >> So I screw the plate tighter on that side (which worked quite well).

Still... I have tuned down a few VRM's to 450 Mhs instead of 475, for the time being (I will buy some additional Fans to solve this).

Is anyone having problems with Neptune's shutting down due to thermal issues or is this yet more FUD being spread by haters and envious ne'er do wells towards KNC ?

Anyone who? Only 1 Neptune is in the wild!

I figured you'd be lurking somewhere nearby RoadStress … you are never late to a KNC FUD party and your merry band 'o gentlemen can not be far behind. Now that we have OKAVNGR and RS in play, where is the raskul when you need him ?

If we want to start discussing bitcoin miners that you could cook breakfast on, lets start with that howler the SP10.

SP10 is out of stock so any talk about it at this point is useless. How many Neptunes are you waiting?

These components are about 2 to 3 inches away from the chip and the temperature reading is 58C  Shocked

Can you even imagine how hot that chip is in it's core?

That far away from the chip, the readings are almost useless.

If those are in fact temperature management/fan control chips they are almost certainly sensing temperature via connection to an on-die temperature diode. See my earlier comments on how these temperature management chips actually work.

Get a life AVNGR. Go throw a cat off a roof or whatever you do for fun on the weekends.
